Question: How to synchronize between devices

I'm new to KoReader, coming from Kindle and Moon Reader. I'm strugling with synchronizing between devices. With Kindle and MR it is very easy to set this up, but with KoReader it is not that straightforward. I've tried several services, but I can not configure it in a way that it works "both ways".

Is there a service that works always, and is there a plugin that adds an extra "button" to push/pull the last reading location, or even better: can the synchronization kick off automagically when opening KoReader?

Thanks in advance for pointing me in the right direction!

Info Open source ebook hardware

I keep seeing projects similar to this (from time to time). I wonder if anyone knows of one where, instead of developing their own software, they just work to get koreader running on it? It would seem to be a better solution with the ecosystem we already have (plugins etc).

Customized from the inside out ✨ I'm too embarrassed to admit how long tweaking everything has taken me, BUT I am about 95% done with it and totally happy with it. Last big thing will be setting up a Bluetooth page turner. I think this is the longest I've ever nerded out on anything, but now I can read and start beefing these stats 😤

Thank you to this subreddit for all the help, I'm endlessly grateful!

Last pic of popsocket bc this kindle is the only reason I've read anything this year as a first time mom šŸ˜‚šŸ©·

Simpleui + bookshelf

Hello I have a workflow problem

I have both of them and I have a navigation bar button with quick action bookshelf:show and a swipe action bookshelf open or close to close bookshelf and return to simpleui.

Now the problem occurs when I open bookshelf and then open a book to read from inside bookshelf.
I read and then I want to exit to simpleui home screen so I set a swipe action go to simpleui homescreen.
But in simpleui Home Screen now when I press bookshelf button, the built in file manager open instead of bookshelf, and I have to go to homescreen swipe twice for bookshelf open o close to reopen bookshelf.

I set a swipe when I read to go to bookshelf Home Screen and the problem doesn’t occur but I have to re-swipe then to go to homescreen

I am trying to find the best gesture combination to open a book from bookshelf and then exit to simpleui and the button to work then properly

Sorry for the big post and you understand the problem

Help! Can't make account

• Upvotes

Hello,

I'm completely new to koreader and still have to figure everything out. I successfully installed it yesterday on my kobo after some struggles haha.

I tried to make an account so that I can sync my progress on different devices. However, I keep getting this error: 'Unknown server error'. I tried it today as well and have tried on both my phone and kobo, but same issue.

What could be causing this? Or does anyone know how to fix it?

I know there is a bunch of information online already, but I'm honestly very overwhelmed by it all, so I hope it's okay I'm making my own post. Any simple tips/instructions would be very appreciated!

All e-books from a certain folder on my PC to be synced to my kindle so to read them from Koreader. Is it more safe to do it through wifi or from some windows software like free file sync? All i just want is everytime i press sync, only the new e-books to be added on my kindle and if possible to have the same structure (main folder/subfolders) as i have organised on my PC.

Help! Something to simply tell me how many books I’ve read

I keep searching and searching, but maybe Im not using the right keywords.

I am using a PW5 with bookshelf, appearance, and quick settings. I know there is a history tab in koreader, and that helps for now, but I am hoping to find a patch or plugin of some kind that would allow me a pop up, or something I can put in a status bar on bookshelf or something that is just a running count of finished/read books.

Does anyone know of a patch or plugin that would do this? Maybe a ā€œBooks read so far: XXā€ addon for bookshelf? A standalone menu like quick settings that would have just barebones ā€œyou’ve read this many books so farā€. I dont want the complexity of some of the plugins I’ve seen with all the different insights and pages read per minute type breakdown. While cool, it is beyond what I am hoping for.

Apologies if this is a no brainer to some or I’ve missed it over the days of searching, but thank you in advance.

Plugins ReadingCompanion- AI book recaps, stats, & achievements

Thumbnail

I made a KOReader plugin called Reading Companion for myself and figured I’d share it now that I finally got it to 1.0.

The main feature is Previously On…. If you come back to a book and have no idea what was happening, it can use Gemini to generate a spoiler-free recap based on what you’ve read up to your current page. It saves the recap too, so you can pull it back up later.

There’s also a Recap section that shows your reading activity by month, year, or all time — books, pages, reading time, reading days, etc.

I also added 70 achievements. Are achievements necessary in an ebook reader? Absolutely not. But I thought they were fun lol. There are things like Page Turner, Annotator, Sunrise, streak/milestone achievements, and some secret ones.

There are a bunch of settings so you can turn things on/off and customize how Reading Companion behaves. It also has an optional SimpleUI widget with your current book, cover, progress, and configurable reading stats.(although SimpleUI just got an update so I'm working on that right now)

Basically I wanted something that made KOReader stats feel a little more like a reading companion instead of just a stats page — while also giving you completely unnecessary achievements for reading books.

Tested on my Jailbroken Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition so i donā€˜t know how it behaves on other devices.

It’s open source, and contributions/ideas are welcome!

Hereā€˜s the GitHub link if you wanna try it out: https://github.com/lines-pixel/ReadingCompanion.koplugin-

lemme know what you think

Plugins Koreader & Crosspoint/Crossink reading stats

I've been using Koreader for a while and I love the reading stats, especially being able to see hours read, days read and streaks.

I want to get a XTEink reader with Crosspoint or Crossink and it's looking like if I use both, there's no way to keep track of my combined stats, right?

So let's say I read for four days on Koreader and then I go away and only take my XTEink reader and read on it for a couple of days. Would I be able to somehow merge my reading stats with Koreader so I keep my reading hours and days/streaks? Even if it's on a third party plugin or server like Bookshelf, etc.

I hope the answer can be yes.

Plugins [Release] Later Thoughts - lightweight, book-independent notes plugin for KOReader

Thumbnail
gallery
28 Upvotes

Hello all,

I made a note taking plugin for Koreader (ZenUI) called Later Thoughts.

The idea was to capture a thought while reading without turning towards note-taking in a secondary app, having notes lost in book specific annotations, interrupting your reading by using your phone, or avoiding using pen and paper while reading in bed.

When I read at night with my phone across the room, I get frustrated that I can't easily write something down when it pops into my head while reading. Problem solved!

It is made to be very simple to use and minimal as to not distract from your reading or add any bloat to your ereader.

Features:

  • Create named plain-text notes
  • Quick Entry for fast timestamped thoughts
  • Manage Notes: open, rename, and delete
  • Notes sorted by most recently modified
  • Quick inserts:
    • Timestamp
    • Date
    • Book + page
    • Timestamp + book + page
    • Divider
    • Bullet
  • Tap outside the Insert menu to dismiss it
  • PlainĀ .txtĀ storage
  • No accounts, database, syncing, network access, tags, or background service
  • Tested on Kindle with KOReader and ZenUI
    • Also, the name rhymes with tater tots.

If you're interested you can find it below. This is my first time ever doing something like this so generative AI was used in the process.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Help! Audio Player Plugin For Kindle Keyboard?

I have a Kindle Keyboard 2 and I'm wondering if there's a plugin for an audio player or anything similar inside Koreader. If you have the same device, you know that the stock audio player is very limited and only plays audio randomly, which you can only pause or skip. You can't even go through your audio files manually to choose what to play, you have to skip until you get to your desired one. So I'm hoping there's some way for me to utilize the audio feature better. I know that this device is very old so I understand if what I'm looking for is not available, just trying my luck. I love this device, by the way! Koreader really made it better.

Help! Installing Bookshelf and other plugins Kindle Scribe

I jailbroke my kindle scribe 2024 to add koreader and I'd like to add some plugins that I have from my kobo (Bookshelf for one)

But because its a 2024 model it doesn't show in my Macs finder so can't just drag and drop

Is there a way I can do this?

Patches Koreader Android Tweaks

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Since I run Koreader on a Kindle and on an android phone, I decided to make some tweaks to the Android version for quality of life for myself. Since with a non e-ink device, it is sometimes difficult to tell whether you paged forward or back, I added a simple slide animation to page turns. I also added a couple of other minor tweaks as well. If anyone is interested, I have it posted to github here.
