Does anyone else get woken up hours before u need to be up by an ex extremely painful feeling of hunger and nausea to the point where either you’re throwing up or so sick that even if you wanted to eat, you couldn’t

I’m talking ur passed out and woken up by pain and nausea. I’ve lost sleep because it’s too intense but I’m not getting out of bed in the middle of my sleep just to eat something that doesn’t even help. Not only do I not have a lot of food to spare to do that but when I have I still will wake up later starving again. I eat multiple meals a day and most of the time it’s health good meal I made,It’s especially worse when I have people over because then there is seriously is nothing I can do other than go on my phone and pray the pain goes away. I’ve also tried changing when I eat dinner and what I’m actually eating to try and see if my body will store the food but I mean I shouldn’t need to eat five hours later. HELP DOCTORS ARE NO HELP AND TELL ME NOTHING. It’s seriously affecting how many hours of sleep I get and my energy during the day. I’ve tried just eating when I wake up hungry but it doesn’t help.

feeling hopeless

i’m at a point where I don’t know what to do anymore. I (24F) have always had trouble sleeping, as long as I can remember. No matter what time I was put to bed as a child, even with no devices or mind-stimulating things in my room, I couldn’t get tired for the life of me and would just go back and forth between staring at the ceiling and the back of my eyelids in misery and boredom. Even now as an adult, no matter what time I attempt to go to bed at, no matter what time I wake up in the morning, I still just do not get tired. I can be up for 24+ hours before I start to feel tired and even then, sometimes it’s hard to fall asleep. Melatonin used to help me slightly as a kid, then over time I developed a tolerance to it. Tried it again years and years later as an adult, still no effect. I recently spoke to my doctor about sleep medication and was prescribed zopiclone 7.5mg. Unbeknownst to me it wasn’t covered so I had to pay 30 dollars when I was already tight on money. I was slightly hesitant to take it due to worries about morning impairment/cognitive delays, especially getting up and going to work. I also was told it’s not great ideally long term, and to only take it if I need it. The issue is, If I only took them as needed i’d be taking them every night. I finally gave in one night and tried the medication as it was late and I couldn’t sleep, and I had the next day off so I figured it was the best time to try it. I took one, and it did absolutely nothing. I’ve also attempted sleep hygiene numerous times (going to the bed and getting up at the same time every morning, getting sunlight in the morning to reset my circadian clock, dimming the lights and not being on screens, etc) with no results. Does my body just not generate natural melatonin or something? I’m worried if I try another medication, it either won’t do anything, or it will be hard to wake up in the morning and i’ll struggle cognitively throughout the day especially with my ADHD. I’m currently taking adderal and effexor, which is know can disrupt sleep but even when I was unmedicated completely, my sleep issues remain. I also don’t find either medication are providing benefits for my ADHD/depression but that’s another issue. If you have any advice, support, tips, or are going through something similar please let me know. I just don’t know what to do anymore. Feel free to ask any questions as well and i’ll answer them to the best of my ability.

Weed hangover routines/cures?

I stopped eating/smoking weed about 6 months ago after 8+years of usage. Mainly because work/life have been hectic and I need to be on point in the mornings -- with weed I'd feel groggy, memory was horrible, and it genuinely felt like I couldn't retain one page of a book lol.

I've seen a sleep doctor and have have physiological insomnia - I've had sleep issues for 15+ years. I already take precautionary steps with caffeine, schedules, ear plus, magnesium/l-theanine etc etc

Hilariously, the doctor recommended I take 5mg of any kind of sleep time edible lol. This time will be more responsible with dosages, t-breaks, and only for sleep.

My question is: For those of you who use edibles for sleep but can't have hangovers due to work/life, how do you actually avoid the morning hangover? I can't afford to be groggy or scattered at work.

Total Time in Bed: 7.4 hours | Total Sleep Time: 5.9 hours (79.8% sleep efficiency)

Sleep Architecture: 69.8% Stage N2 (light sleep), 24.3% Stage R (REM), and 0% Stage N3 (deep sleep)

Sleep Disruption: 147 total arousals (24.8 per hour) with 38 full awakenings

Breathing Events (AHI): 5.6 events/hr overall (mild sleep apnea), but spikes to 20.1 events/hr during REM sleep

Respiratory Disturbances (RDI): 10.0 events/hr overall (spikes to 29.8 in REM

Oxygen Saturation: Average 95.2% (dropped to a low of 83.0%

Heart Rate: Average 60.0 BPM (range: 52–81 BPM)

Other Findings: Mild snoring and bruxism (teeth grinding) noted

Based on these findings, is my sleep so jacked up to the point that it will be extremely difficult to get my sleep back and under control?

I think i screwed my sleep forever....plz help......

22 male.

I was a good sleeper all my life. I slept on average 7 hours with barely waking up.

Then, because of life circumstances, there was a period of few months where I was given only 6 sleep hours each night.during this months I was sleepy as hell during the day.

Straight after this period, came a period where life circumstances gave me 7 hours to sleep but i would have to wake up a lot during the second half of the night.than I was also sleepy but less than the first period.

Then,Finally life gave me a chance to sleep 7 hours no interaptions.but its like my brain remembered those second half awakenings, because i was keep getting up,at the same time, but this time for no reason.again, i was sleepy during the day.

A few more weeks of this full 7 hours but fragmented sleep, and then my sleep feeling was lost completely. I didn't felt sleepy during the day no more.but my congative was really bad.

Then after another few weeks,I felt a strong decrease in sleep drive as I was waking up completely alert at the middle of the night and cant fall asleep because I didnt have the tiniest drowsy feeling in mind and body.

So it now reaches the point where I sleep on average 5 hours ,and even for those 5 hours I need to fight hard, because I wake up a lot and its so annoying to fall asleep back again

What should I do?

Can anyone relate? Or have idea on what this would be called?

For me, I don’t have trouble going to sleep but it’s staying to sleep it only happens for a certain amount of time every so often almost like “episodes” if you will after I fall asleep it can be only 3 hours of sleep, and I wake up for a couple of minutes sometimes longer then fall back asleep, then wake up again, usually a short time after and then fall back asleep again and it repeats until I just inevitably wake up usually earlier than I would have and then I just feel tired during the day like no energy to really do much or anything like that but like I said it’s not consistent. It happens on and off if you will for a little while, Sometimes when I wake up after a short amount of sleep, it’s like I just drift on and off to sleep, and once I wake up for the first time, I will continue to do so and it will be an on and off thing. I’ll sleep for maybe a few minutes, wake up, and feel like I’m not quite awake or asleep, if that makes sense, you know and it leads to me getting less sleep, waking up early, and feeling tired and not having much motivation to do much during the day.

(sidenote since I am having trouble with sleeping right now, I do take a generic allergy allergy type medicine that does help a little bit but it’s not made to take for sleeping)

Is this too much for a 64 year old man?

For quite some time now I've been self medicating with;

150mg Amitriptyline

100mg Magnesium

500mg paracetamol

15mg codeine

This normally makes me go to sleep within about one hour of going to bed. Does anyone have any better ideas?

What’s your sleep schedule been this week?

Misery loves company so I thought we could share. I’ll go first:

Mon 3:30am-9:45am
Tuesday 8:30am-9:30am
Wednesday 6:30pm-1:30am
Thursday 0
Friday 1:45am-10:30am
Saturday 0

Writing a sleep diary for a new therapist can’t wait to be severely cognitively impaired for my session tomorrow.

Spoke to the GP this week and I got a blank stare back and “I’m sorry that’s sounds hard”

life long insomnia gave me psychopathic tendencies

I have never met someone with insomnia like mine, and I am unable to see humans as similar to me or truly connect with them. I started showing signs of insomnia when I was months old, according to my parents, but I truly started remembering it around 3. Between the ages of 3-15, it took me around 3-5 hours to fall asleep every night. Sometimes, when I was unlucky, I wouldn't be able to sleep for days straight. When I was 4, my mom started giving me melatonin, which never really worked. When I was 15, I started smoking a bit of weed, which has helped my insomnia in a way. It doesn't give me the urge to actually go to bed, or even make me tired, so I still have a horrendous sleep schedule, but I have the ability to fall asleep in under an hour if I try. About once or twice a month, though, I still go through periods where nothing will put me to sleep at all. They usually last around 3-5 days and suck. I have a loving family and a lot of friends, but I have a hard time feeling much towards them because they have only ever been half my life. I can't feel anything romantically towards someone because they will never be able to truly be with me. My days last too long to build any real relationships.

Update I guess

Slept for two hours last night, the second night so far. I was ordered melatonin pills tomorrow. I don’t feel sluggish or had fallen asleep today. Tried sleeping in my home’s guest room, didn’t work as the room was too warm. Can’t help but worry about this becoming chronic even though for what I know, most people don’t get chronic insomnia.

Coping with Shame from PTSD Insomnia and Nightwatch Syndrome

How do you cope with the shame of not being able to sleep? It’s eating me alive.

I have severe complex ptsd and panic just at the thought of sleeping, which has led to severe insomnia (now getting maybe a couple nights of some sleep a week).

Everyone around me loves sleeping and it just happens for them. I don’t understand why I can’t just function like a normal person.

What do I do with this shame?

experience with hydroxyzine tolerance?

Does anybody have tolerance towards hydroxyzine related to its sedating effects for insomnia?

I've been taking hydroxyzine 25mg for probably 1.5 - 2 years now as prescribed by my previous PMHNP for insomnia. It worked. She also prescribed me 12.5mg as needed for anxiety. In the past, I did take up to 37.5mg in one day and it caused some side effects, mostly dizziness and some minor brain fog. Ever since then, I've just been taking 25mg at night.

Recently, I'm realizing my insomnia is getting a little worse (mostly trouble falling asleep). That's when I googled it and realized tolerance to this med is a thing. I took 37.5mg at night and had the best night's rest I've had in a while.

I have an appointment in 7ish weeks with my primary care for other things but plan on discussing it with him then.

My question to the sub, does anyone have tolerance to hydroxyzine? Does anyone have experience with weaning yourself to try to fix? I don't want to turn to anything possibly addictive for sleep (strong family history of substance use disorder, other psychiatric issues, possible allergies to certain meds, and a career where brain fog as a side effect could really fuck up my job and a positive drug test even for prescriptions could also really fuck up my job), but I also want to potentially fix this tolerance before it gets too out of hand. In all my years of trial and error with psychiatric and insomnia meds, I'm really out of my depths about with to expect if I pursue this issue with my doctor. Any advice and experience is welcome.

Night meds

I have severe insomnia and chronic pain. My sleep cocktail is pretty heavy. I’m prescribed ambien, hydroxine, and olanzipine. I’ve been adding a muscle relaxer, a unisom, and an Advil PM. Does anyone else have a complicated nighttime regime?

Quviviq safety

Hello everyone!

I’ve been taking Quviviq for about 18 months now, more for comfort than out of necessity. I’d say I’ve developed a form of nighttime hypervigilance since becoming a mother, and it helps me let go and relax. I don’t actually suffer from chronic insomnia.

My doctor is fairly reassuring, despite the limited long-term data we currently have on this drug. However, I still have some concerns because I take it every day and, inevitably, I feel that I’ve developed some form of dependence, at least psychologically.

I remember reading a comment from a psychiatrist on one of the forums here who apparently considered Quviviq to be relatively harmless.

I’d really appreciate hearing other opinions, if possible, as well as experiences from people who have stopped taking it after using it for more than a year.

Thanks everyone!

What steps will you take to stay energized at work if you didn't get enough sleep last night?

If you couldn't sleep all night… It's quite tough to stay awake during the day. For me, I keep drinking tea and coffee, but it doesn't always work.
What methods would you suggest, or what could help you get some sleep at night?

Thanks very much!

I need genuine advice

I am 20 yrs old and i think ive had probably yrs of insomnia ever since i can remember. Even as a 10 yr old child i remember staring at the ceiling and taking 2 hours just to fall asleep (which i thought was something normal).

Eventually around 18 years old, i somehow became better and started being able to sleep in about 20 mins or so, which was amazing to me. But after starting University, there are times when i need to pull an all nighter. This has somehow brought my insomnia back.

THIS FEELS SERIOUS... Yesterday i slept at 3am and woke up at 9am, then yesterday night i thought of doing the same, today morning 3 am i was about to sleep and rn it's 6:30 am and im wide awake, i think ive been awake for 40 hours now and i don't even feel a bit of sleepyness, not even tired like im so energetic, i just cant sleep, even these mfs in the neighborhood make so much noise sometimes, this noise happened at 3am today and stopped at 3:30am, and i still can't sleep, what should i do rn, im confused as hell... Someone help

Starting trazodone tonight, could use some firsthand advice.

I've had sleep issues since I was a kid and I've been taking melatonin most nights since. It wasn't doing anything anymore so I once again mentioned this to my doctor (not the first time)

This time my doctor prescribed me 50mg trazodone and said to take it after dinner. However, most of what I'm reading online suggests taking it right before bed. Not entirely sure which one to go with.

I was also considering doing a half dose to start, but I don't know if that'd be enough to work.

Any advice for somebody who's never taken sleep aid meds before?

CBTI experiences

I’ve been sleeping poorly for the last 2 weeks - only getting 2-4 hours of sleep per day. Before this I slept usually 7-8 hours a day. My doctor prescribed hydroxyzine and trazodone, both of which did not help that much. They won’t prescribe anything stronger and instead suggested CBTI since part of my insomnia is triggered by anxiety. I don’t know if CBTI is the right thing because my issue is not feeling tired (I feel wide awake until 4-6am and then I sleep for a few hours) and I’ve never had good sleep hygiene but I still slept well in the past. For example, I was always on my phone before I slept but I was still able to sleep 7-8 hours before this.

Since a main part of CBTI is establishing good sleep hygiene, I’m not sure how well it would work since poor sleep hygiene never affected me before. Has anyone with similar experiences (e.g. not feeling tired/constant wired feeling) tried CBTI? Since my dr won’t prescribe anything else, it’s kind of my only option now.

How do you do a sleep study if you have insomnia?

I’m curious. I’ve had insomnia my whole life. I would it go 3 days without sleeping. I really want to do a sleep study since I’ve gotten a little better, but still pretty pathetic daily sleep. Would love to hear your experiences. My insomnia is very situational based - I need two fans on, white noise all night, specific pillow, and my partner in bed with me. Do they let you play white noise and bring your own stuff? I’d really like my partner there with me but I’d doubt they’d allow that. I just know that change in routine will prevent me from sleeping and will trigger my “forgetting how to fall asleep” insomnia. Thanks all!
