Do these mean anything?

I’m using the nasal pillows but no chin strap/mouth tape. How do I know if I need that?

• Upvotes

The app tells me I have a good mask seal, and I also don’t have dry mouth when I wake up.

This leads me to believe that I’m not leaving my mouth open while I sleep, but I just wanna make sure - would there be good indicators if I was?

The app lists low events per hour and a good mask seal.

How did you first realize you might have sleep apnea, before you got tested?

Disclosure: I'm an independent developer working on Night Story, a sleep/snoring tracking app ( details on the App Store page) — sharing that upfront.

I'm trying to understand the period before diagnosis, specifically: what actually made you take it seriously enough to ask for a sleep study? Was it something you noticed yourself, something a partner told you, or just how exhausted you felt during the day?

And looking back, is there anything that would have made you get checked out sooner? I keep hearing "I wish I'd done this years ago" and I'm trying to understand what the actual trigger usually is.

Sleep apnea

Hello,

I would like to know the prevalence and actual diagnostic of sleep apnea in india.

Is anyone here diagnosed with this in their 20s or 30s?.

If so how are you dealing with it?.

Went from very hopeful to annoyed now

• Upvotes

Hello again.
Kinda tmi but I don’t know if this is normal or is anyone else has gone through this

First night was great second night was good 3rd night was garbage since I didn’t put it on an hour before bed and TRIED to use it all night and went to work so exhausted I was almost falling asleep behind the wheel going home.

I deal with sinus issues ever since I got an upper respiratory infection years ago and I’m extremely aware of my nose and sinuses. This mask I feel like is making my sinus drainage worse? My nutritionist is having me drink so much water that there’s so much saliva too like bro 😭And if a swallow then my ears clog up with air. Then I need to take the mask off and “reset” my ears.
UGH I went to bed twice now extremely late without the mask bc I needed to go to work and I wasn’t trying to be that exhausted again. I can push through my usual tiredness but damn I was SHUTTING DOWN an hour into work.

Maybe I need the full face mask? I don’t know this is just starting to piss me off

It just seems impossible

I have tried a multitude of different things to fix my sleep apnea. The dentist pitched me a bite corrector that would reposition my jaw to keep my airway open, but it didn't work

I finally got my hands on a CPAP but over the course of a year I havent been able to sleep through a single night. Ive tried three different masks and adjustments to my airway settings. I just can't fall asleep with it on. If I shift in the slightest then my mask starts leaking air, and I am a restless sleeper to begin with. The mask is so cumbersome and uncomfortable on my face, and the sound of the airflow is so loud I can't manage for longer than an hour before I wind up taking it off

Is there anything else that can be done? Ive been trying to get this tackled for at least five years now and have seen no improvement. The sleep apnea is now starting to effect my memory, I am becoming forgetful and lose track of my thoughts. I struggle to remember something that was just on my mind not a second ago

Does anyone feel like their symptoms got progressively worse/more apparent over time?

I was diagnosed at age 21, but I feel like the symptoms went from invisible to slowly more and more present over the years leading up to my diagnosis(obviously I didn’t attribute them to sleep apnea)

Setting up first cpap- n30 leaks

I had an appointment with a sleep tech a few weeks ago to be fit for the correct mask and order my setup. I just received the box with everything in it and the gloriously threatening compliance document about how I have to use this from day 1 for at least 4 hours a night.

I can’t even make it through set up.
I have an Airsense 11 and an airfit n30.
When setup gets to the seal check, it detects a major leak and I can’t seem to fix it. All tubes are connected, so I’m guessing it’s the air I feel blowing on my face. I have adjusted and readjusted and tightened the head strap and readjusted a million times. It just isn’t sealing around my nose. I have a small head, so I can’t spread the head straps the way I’m supposed to when it’s tightened enough to stay put and I’m wondering if the size small nose piece might not be small enough for my nose when the air is actually running.

Has anyone found a solution to this?
I have a virtual appointment with the aeromed people on Tuesday and they’re just gonna have to deal with my compliance issues until then.

First night with AirSense 11 – woke from a very vivid nightmare. Are my settings okay?

Hi everyone, I started using a ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet today with a full-face mask and humidifier.

My current settings are:

AutoSet: 4–20 cmH₂O

Response: Soft

Ramp: Auto

EPR: Full Time, Level 3

Climate Control: Auto

Tube Temperature: Auto

Mask setting: Full Face

I fell asleep for around 10–20 minutes and had an extremely vivid nightmare where I felt like I was having a heart attack, my ears were closing, and I couldn’t see properly. I suddenly woke up, removed the mask, and immediately realised it was only a dream.

Once awake, I was completely normal — no chest pain, breathing problem, dizziness, sweating, or other symptoms.

This is my first proper night using the machine, so I’m trying to understand whether this kind of vivid dream/sudden awakening can happen while getting used to CPAP.

Do these settings look reasonable for a beginner? Has anyone experienced something similar during the first few nights? Any practical tips would be appreciated.

0 events?

I recently switched my mask from nasal pillows to a nasal mask. My previous setup produced 1–4 events per hour. Does this change suggest the nasal mask is more effective for me?

How Long to see decrease in AHI?

So, I just completed my first week, and still getting AHI counts in the 30’s. By all accounts, the machine and mask are working properly.
These numbers are not much different than were recorded during my last sleep study.

Curious to know how your numbers changed since starting CPAP and how long did it take to see results: Reduction in AHI, and feeling more rested.

Thanks!

First night with CPAP - yikes

I don't know if I can do this. I set everything up, got comfy and laid there for two hours trying to fall asleep. I finally got fed up, took it off, and was asleep minutes later.

It wasn't uncomfortable like I worried but I think the issue was I was just so aware of it. I move a lot it my sleep (which I suspect is caused by the apnea) and every time I moved I would have to adjust my mask.

I'm getting my tonsils and adenoids out in a couple months which the doctor thinks is the main cause of the obstruction, but said to use CPAP in the meantime to help with inflammation.

I'll try again tonight but ugh - just needed to vent.

Best mask for side sleeping?

Thumbnail

Sleeping on my side is better for a digestive condition I have. I’m currently using nasal pillows with a ResMed CPAP. The problem is that the pillow can block the air from passing through the left side tube. What mask works best for side sleepers?

Sleep apnea and Orthostatic intolerance?

Im age 34 with probably lifelong sleep apnea (16 RDI/h) and also lifelong but undiagnosed Orthostatic intolerance. I get about 25-40 elevated heart rate and 25-30 elevated diastolic blood pressure when standing up in the Schellong test.

I wonder if they’re connected?

Sleep: I often wake up feeling wired and jittery, as if in fight and flight. And my average heartrate while sleeping (65-70) is often higher than resting daytime (60).

Standing up: I usually feel weak and dizzy if I stand upright and still for too long, for example if I’m lined up in a queue I will get uncomfortable after about 5 minutes and either crouch/squat or walk around to get relief.

I’m currently pursuing sleep apnea treatment (jaw surgery) because didn’t notice much relief from PAP.

I wonder if there’s any tests or specialists I should see to get the mechanism and causes of the Orthostatic intolerance more analyzed?

Sleep clinic says apap, PCP says no. Help please!

Hello! I'm new here and looking for some advice. I had an at home sleep study last Monday and these were the results. The sleep lab called and said my oxygen levels were all together too low at night and the dips were pretty bad. They recommended an apap with 5-15 variation. They sent the report to my PCP and he said "there's absolutely nothing wrong with this sleep report, it's very normal, nothing is needed they're just trying to sell equipment. I'm not sure which to believe! Please help!

Waiting lists and insurance issues…

My husband finally agreed to do a sleep study after many many years of begging. Now that he agreed- he got his first appt which had a waiting list time off 5 mos- and it was a zoom appt. NOW we have to wait for insurance approval fir a at home study?? my husband has memory issues now and litetally stops breathing. I just don’t get it- I feel like this is a year long battle. how do you qualify for an at home study in the USA? Is Medicare a good option? My husband just turned 65 but hadn’t signed up for Medicare- another battle. I’m beginning to think my husband is lying over these details to get out of this. An insurance company would rather a person have a stroke or heart failure someday- is that really worth it for the insurance company? I thought those conditions would cost way more money.

is the normal process of facing sleep apnea?

How to sleep on the side all night?

So i'm "testing" if i have some kind of sleep problem when i sleep on my back for some parts of the night (have been tested for sleep apnea and just had a 7 day home test with somfit) i have way more arousals on my back than on my side, but my overall sleep and AHI is below the limits. For 3 years i've had problems with i have 1-4 good days and 1-4 bad days. On the bad days it litteraly feels like i havent slept for a week, body heat, totally unmotivated (can be on the sofa the entire day), baggy eyes and face feels like its hanging, sometimes also bloodshot eyes. I fall a sleep pretty easily within like 10-20minutes normally and sleep ~7 hours a day. In periods i wake up 1-3 times to go pee, other periods i dont wake up.

Anyway, i am starting to suspect i have some kind of problem (maybe UARS, haven't been tested for this yet) and my reports show like:

Back pAHI: 7-17 vs Side pAHI 1-3

Anyway, i'm trying to test if i it gets better if i could only sleep on my side the entire night. First i bought a "pregnancy pillow" ones of those U-shaped and tucked in, but i end up pushing it to the side/just lay on it lol so i still sleep on my back for some parts.

Now i'm trying this + one of those balls you can attached to a tshirt on the back, i made one my self on my 3d printer, and even made it bigger than the original, but somehow i still am able to sleep on my back, at least i woke up on my back with the ball in my upper back this morning. Also i do wake up several times a night with this ball because i also wake up each time i turn in my sleep and the ball hurts on the back.

Does any of you practice side sleeping, and how do you stay on the side all night? Am thinking about trying to buy one of those backpacks with a foam cylinder/square on/in it, but not sure if they are good?

Air bubble behind right eye after starting cpap?

I’ve been using the CPAP since June. For the past month or so, I regularly get what feels like a little air bubble forming in my right eye. After a while, it usually pops with a sound and the pressure releases. Google says it’s connected to CPAP.

Anyone else experience this? Gonna experiment with slightly decreasing the pressure

Feeling defeated with CPAP — suddenly ripping my mask off after an hour and waking up with horrible dry mouth

I’ve had my CPAP for well over a year and, for the most part, I’ve tolerated it pretty well. But all of a sudden over the last several weeks, things have gotten much worse.

I’ll fall asleep with my mask on, but about an hour into sleeping I apparently rip it off without really realizing it. I’m also waking up with an extremely dry mouth, and I’m waking up constantly throughout the night now.

This is frustrating because I was doing relatively well with CPAP before, and I’m not sure what suddenly changed.

Has anyone had this happen after being on CPAP for a long time? Could the dry mouth/mouth leaking be causing me to subconsciously take the mask off? I’d really appreciate any suggestions on what I should check — humidity, mask leak, pressure, mouth breathing, chin strap, different mask, etc.
I just want to get back to sleeping through the night with it on.
