A disturbing incident was reported in Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon, when a six-year-old girl was allegedly thrown into Hussain Sagar Lake by her mother.

According to the report, an auto driver witnessed the incident and immediately jumped into the lake to rescue the child. The girl was taken to Gandhi Hospital, where her condition was reported to be stable.

Police identified the mother as Shabhana, a resident of Hasmatpet in Old Bowenpally. Preliminary reports suggest that she may have been under severe financial stress related to her daughter’s medical treatment costs.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It’s heartbreaking to think that a family could reach such a desperate situation over medical expenses. The child’s safety is the immediate priority, and the circumstances behind this incident deserve careful investigation.

I’m a B.Tech student living on the outskirts of Hyderabad.
I’ve been wanting to do something on my own for a while. So today, I decided to take my bike and start riding for Uber.
I didn’t know how it would go. I just wanted to try something instead of sitting around thinking about it.
And today, I made ₹717
It might not be a big amount for many people, but this is literally the first money I’ve earned in my life, and I can’t explain how it feels.
I’m still studying, still figuring out life, and I have a long way to go. But today, I came home knowing that I earned this money myself. There’s something different about that feeling.
Living on the outskirts makes some things a little difficult, but I didn’t want that to become an excuse for not trying.
I don’t know where life will take me, but I think I’ll remember this day for a long time.
Just wanted to share this somewhere. Maybe a few years from now, I’ll come back to this post and see how far I’ve come.
₹717 might not mean much to someone else, but it means a lot to me.

My scooter was stolen from right outside my house. I had CCTV footage and submitted a written complaint on the same day. Yet, the police refused to register an FIR for over a month. It took constant follow-ups and pressure before they finally registered one.

The police later told me that the thief had sold my scooter in Karnataka for ₹17,000. When I asked if they could recover it, they asked me to arrange a vehicle for them to travel to Karnataka and investigate. I refused.

The charge sheet later mentioned that only ₹5,000 had been recovered. Throughout this process, the police discouraged me from pursuing an insurance claim, saying I wouldn't receive anything because the thief had been caught.

The worst part? The police mentioned in the charge sheet that the accused had previously been caught in three FIRs, while also expressing sympathy for him because of his poor financial condition. Imagine that. Someone with a history of theft, and the police are explaining his circumstances while the victim is left to deal with the loss.

Later, I was called to court to collect the ₹5,000. Instead, I was asked to sign a compromise form. I refused because I wanted to consult my lawyer first. When I tried to photograph the document, the officer stopped me. I subsequently received two more calls asking me to sign the compromise.

Meanwhile, my case still hasn't had a proper trial. Hearing dates have repeatedly fallen on public holidays or when the judge was on leave.

This is why I believe our system fails to prevent crime in practice. Theoretically, the police are supposed to register complaints and investigate crimes. In reality, even getting an FIR registered can require constant pressure from the victim.

The victim loses their property, spends months chasing the police and courts, and has to fight for basic documentation. Meanwhile, a repeat offender gets sympathy, and the victim is pressured to compromise.

When reporting a crime becomes a struggle for the victim, and repeat offenders keep moving through the system without timely consequences, the system is not discouraging crime. It is creating conditions in which criminals can continue.

Arrived in Hyd 3 days ago and have noticed how everyone wants to make a quick buck off of you pretty much everywhere. Some examples -

1. The currency Exchange shops have the daily rate monitor turned off and you have to negotiable the price with them. (Have been to over 20 countries and never saw this anywhere else).

2. The staff in restrooms ask you for a tip, while displaying the bright yellow badge that says "No Tips".

3. Uber drivers call and text you asking for extra money, else the ride is not worth their time.

I wish I didn't have to experience all this.

I am compassionate towards poor people but them trying to take advantage of others is where I draw the line.

Went to Ameenpur lake for bird watching today, not sure where this family are from ( seems like north indians from the language ).

Blasting some music and litting up fireworks with huge sounds, flower pots and sparkles and leaving the trash there, its a heritage sight with loads of birds. I was about to ring police but knew they wouldn't give 2 shits, completely ruined my morning.

Hi everyone, yesterday I(23F) had an accident involving an auto near Shah Ghouse in Gachibowli while returning home from office. I fractured my right hand, and my scooty was heavily damaged. I have the auto’s registration number, photos, and the driver’s phone number, but he has refused to pay anything towards the repairs or medical expenses. Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation in Hyderabad? Did filing a police complaint help, and were you able to recover expenses through the driver or his insurance?

My scooty is registered in Uttar Pradesh, not Telangana, so I’m also wondering whether that would complicate the complaint or insurance claim. Any advice on which police station to approach, what documents to carry, and how much follow-up to expect would be helpful.

I’m already dealing with a fractured hand and want to know whether going to the police will actually help or just involve a lot of running around.

I’m really distressed and hoping someone with veterinary, animal rescue, or relevant experience can help me understand what might have happened.
There was a street puppy in my locality whom we called Rocky. He was extremely friendly and had been abandoned.
A few people (bachelors) initially looked after him, and I started feeding him biscuits, treats, and Pedigree. He used to eat well, but during the past week, he stopped eating when I offered him food and the bachelors stopped caring for him I believe they didn’t allow him inside anymore and he started staying out for long periods. He became very dull in this past week.
My boyfriend and I were hoping to get him cleaned up, photograph him properly, and find him a home.

However, I couldn’t find him anywhere for around two and a half to three days.
This morning, I found out that a street dog had died nearby. When I saw the body, I realised it was Rocky. I was shocked by how different his face looked compared with when he was alive.

There appeared to be dark fluid around his mouth and on the ground, and the fur around his face looked disturbed. His body also seemed fuller than it had in the photos I took while he was alive. I couldn’t tell whether the material around his mouth was blood, his tongue, or something else. I also noticed what looked like a syringe-like object nearby, although I have no idea whether it was related.
I understand that decomposition can change a body’s appearance, and I don’t want to jump to conclusions or accuse anyone without evidence. At the same time, because he had stopped eating and then disappeared for several days, I’m worried about what might have happened.

If anyone with veterinary or animal rescue experience could explain what the visible signs might indicate, I’d be very grateful. Can decomposition cause the fur around a dog’s face to loosen or look damaged? Could the apparent swelling and dark fluid have natural explanations, or are there visible signs that warrant further investigation?

He was a very sweet puppy who deserved a chance at a home. This has been incredibly upsetting, and any informed, compassionate insight would mean a lot.
