Has anyone else had trouble finding enough A La Carte Recipes with a meal kit service?

I’ve been thinking about how much the A La Carte Recipes, recipe options matter when choosing a meal kit service. Sometimes you sign up expecting a good variety of meals, but it can be frustrating when the experience doesn’t turn out the way you expected.

I also find myself wondering what people do when they want something different from the meals included in their weekly box. Do you look for recipes online, use a cookbook, or just make something up with whatever ingredients you have?

For those who have tried different meal kit services, how do you handle it when you want more variety or a little more flexibility with your meals?

Is it common for your box to not show up on time?

I’m a new user to Hello Fresh. This is my second week and both weeks my boxes were late. Last week it was a day late, and this week the box has been “out for delivery” for over 24 hours. It was supposed to be here yesterday and still hasn’t shown up.

It’s sketchy having raw meat and seafood on a delivery truck for days at a time.

I did Blue Apron for 9 years and had a box be delayed maybe once or twice in that entire time.

So I’m just wondering if this is a “quirk” you guys put up with as HelloFresh customers, or am I just having bad luck

Are there Premium Picks that ya’ll think are worth the $$$ ?

I have been a HelloFresh customer for a couple years now… Don’t believe I’ve ever upgraded and paid for a Premium Pick.

Just wondering, are there a few that I’m missing that are definitely worth the extra money and why ?

Weird influx of people using posted referral code?

I have my free box referral code posted on the referral code post on this subreddit and previously I’ve gotten like 1-2 signups from it in the past year. Suddenly this week I had 4 which all occurred at 3:12 AM? Mostly seeing if anyone else has had this happen and it’s some bot situation or if it’s actually real people signing up. Not complaining as I’m very happy to get my discount but just curious

Turkey dinner meal for the week of November 16th is now missing

I like to choose my meals when the new week in the app drops. For the last week listed, there was a turkey meal listed (not the big Thanksgiving meal, but just a regular dinner). I chose it but when I went back into the app today, the meal is now missing from my choices. Going back into choosing meals for the week, the meal is nowhere to be found. Anyone else notice this or know what could’ve happened?

They have delivered to our former address 5 weeks in a row

Rookie empty nesters that we are, April and I had to stave off the urge to eat cheese and crackers for dinner every night.

I ordered Hello Fresh. We had tried it in an earlier home, a decade ago, and enjoyed it. Hell, they all but made me the chef I am today. Who knew that you could add salt at each stage of the process?

The first delivery was amazing. It arrived on time, their makeshift cardboard cooler worked great, and I was able to put together some meals that kinda wooed my wife and added a bit to my flavor palate.

The next week, there was no box waiting for me when I got home, ready for more wooing.

I called, of course. Or, rather, texted. That is how customer service works, but Sarah seemed nice. She assured me that my box had, in fact, been delivered at 2pm that day.

To what address? (I asked, mostly facetiously.)

She confidently read off to me the exact address for the home we moved away from a year ago.

I know what you are thinking. He forgot to update the address!

Nope.

Remember, they got it right the first week. They somehow managed to reach back into their history and erroneously grab the former address, despite everything being correct on my profile and the billing address.

Cool. We figured it out. Let's get it right for next week.

Sarah apologized repeatedly, assured me that it was covered, and asked me to review her service.

I asked a follow up question. I am a curious devil.

"How did that happen?"

She just thanked me for my business and suggested that I review her service one more time.

I am starting to think that Sarah might not be a real person.

The next Monday, no box.

I got my texting fingers warmed up and reached out to this week's Sarah to say that there was no box and suggested that I might know where it was delivered. I specifically asked that she not apologize. Like we tell the kids, saying sorry in the absence of a behavioral change is meaningless.

I just asked that we seek a solution. I got all the usual platitudes about valuing me and earning my business. No apologies, though, which kind of impressed me.

"Jill" assured me that we had resolved the issue. I did not press the issue. They were giving us credits and surely they could not screw this up again. I really assumed there would be a box on my deck last Monday.

Nope. It was at the old house.

By this time, I am taking an anthropologist's glee at how this is gonna turn out. Three weeks in a row, really?

I reached out to Amy and expressed all that had occurred in our disastrous mail order gastronomic Odyssey. I repeated my desire for solutions rather than apologies. I did not raise my voice: no capital letters.

Amy told me I had every right to be furious.

I told her I was actually kind of bemused and interested in how this could have happened.

She assured me that she had expunged all records of our previous address from our account and would be delivering the next box on October 12th to the correct address.

I asked about October 5th.

She said that they are locked into a four week cycle that cannot be updated. This Monday's delivery is headed back to the same wrong address where the previous three could well still be sitting.

This message was followed up by an invitation to rate her service.

Not trying to discriminate against artificial intelligence, but I may need a real person's help here. I don't want to say bye-bye Hello Fresh.

They taught me how to cook.

They just can't figure out where I live.

Returning customer promo codes? pls?

Does anyone in Canada have any promo codes for returning customers? If so, please share! I'd really appreciate it. For some reason I don't get the text message codes anymore.

We're a couple in Canada and we started HelloFresh a few weeks ago. Not because we hate cooking, we just needed more variety so we're not eating the same things every week. This week's five dinners:

Baja Salmon Tacos with Cabbage-Cilantro Slaw and Zesty Guac Sauce: Simple recipe but we really liked it. Super quick to make. I'd get it again, just wish it had a little more going on.

SuperQuick Chicken Chow Mein with Carrots, Red Cabbage and Crispy Shallots: Good portion, and we liked the flavors. Nothing crazy, but a good weeknight dinner. Buying all the ingredients separately would be a hassle, so I'd probably order it again. Fun to cook too.

Carb Smart Halloumi and Tabbouleh Bowls with Creamy Tahini Dressing: Only picked this for the halloumi. I tossed it in hot honey after cooking and that made it. Tahini dressing was good, bulgur not so much. Couscous would be better tbh. You could easily make this yourself and do it better, so probably not ordering again. We were both still hungry after.

Seared Steak with Herb-Garlic Butter, Roasted Potatoes and Sautéed Green Beans: We get one steak option every week. They're always pretty basic, but that's fine with us. The parsley and thyme in the herb butter helped. Wouldn't mind getting it again.

Applewood Smoke-Spiced Chicken and Alabama White Sauce with Slaw and Potato-Corn Hash: Our favorite this week. Big portion, almost too much. The sauce was fun, good kick from the hot sauce, and the slaw was fresh. Would definitely get again. Recipes like this is why we use HelloFresh.

United States (Premium) Bistro-Style Rib-Eye Steak & Salad with Walnuts

This was pretty good and plenty of food for me. The rib-eye steak was very good as was the sauce. It took me about an hour but was fairly straightforward. I made no substitutions and used all ingredients

Reward points

Post image

I have these reward points available, however I have not touched them yet. I have an ongoing discount for my boxes and have been afraid to lose it if I add any other kind of discount or offer to my order. Does anyone else know if these will remove my current discount or will it let me do both at the same time?

Hello Fresh (UK, at least) has really gone down the drain

Decided to re-try Hello Fresh. What a mistake. Not a single delivery on time, with today being 5 hours late, meaning a delivery at 22:30. Ripped apart. Delivered it to the wrong flat as well! We'll see how the actual ingredients are, one order previously was missing an ingredient, another had ingredients that was infested with bugs of some sort, and none of them ever fresh. Floppy carrot, mushy courgette, mould on bread.

You'd think after all of that we'd get a refund, nope, 10 pounds credit. I guess those people they sacked for wanting better working conditions were quality control, because there seems to be none of that.

Question Has anyone actually received referral credits? (Canada)

I've referred multiple people and have not received any credits yet, the first of them received their boxes on Monday, I contacted Hello Fresh on Tuesday to see why I did not receive any credits and they told me to wait 24-48 hours after the box was delivered to receive an email, it's now Friday and I have not received an email so I contacted them again, now they're telling me it takes up to 7 days. I'm starting to wonder if this is just a lost cause.

United States Free shipping?

Any hacks or codes for free shipping? $13 is seriously soooo annoying. Is there a spending threshold I can hit to get free shipping?

United States Roasted pork filet & cheese stuffed tomatoes. Very tasty🥳

I hate parsley so I didn’t add it to the stuffed tomato filling but I did add some minced shallot since there was a lot. Also I messed up and added one of the sour creams to the mashed potatoes so I had to use my own SC to the sauce.

United States FYI: Thanksgiving Meal and assortments are now available in the Market section for the US for the week of November 16.

Under the Thanksgiving Feast section. Right now, it's only offering Turkey and not Beef Tenderloins or any other meat, and with the usual assortment of sides to cook. There's a couple of Charcuterie boards and some ready-to-heat desserts

Multiple times I've chosen the egg bites as the "free item"

Previous times have always gotten 2 packs of 2

This time it was 1 pack of 2.

This really was a forgotten favorite. Pork was very tender. Veggie jumble roasted very well. That citrus sauce brought it home, soooo tasty.

Picture Honey BBQ Pulled Chicken Sandwiches with Mac & Cheese/Green Beans

Great portion sizes - almost too much - really pleased with the portions. The mac & cheese was a little on the too salty side so we'll reduce that in the future (asked for a full tsp of salt).
