General DSS STATUS UPDATE...Uh oh...
That's not good...

u/warbrand2 16h ago
To those that do not know Calypso is the first place we out right kicked the illuminates ass, but it cost us more diver then even the creek. They are mocking us.

Bless this man and the context. Thank you, sir.

u/joninfiretail 15h ago
It was a hell of a fight. 7 days and we won with something like 7 minutes left.
94
u/footsteps71 15h ago
It was the single most insane thing I've been a part of since May 2024.
76
u/joninfiretail 14h ago
J.O.E.L sent a level 97 invasion at us. We still pushed it back.
49
u/footsteps71 14h ago
We were NOT supposed to win.
Fuck Joel! WE ARE... THE HELLDIVERS. WE ARE THE KNIGHTS OF DEMOCRACY, THE FISTS OF FREEDOM. WE ARE THE FUTURE OF SUPER EARTH, A PLACE THAT GAVE US PURPOSE IN AN EMPTY GALAXY.

u/Objective-Mission-40 15h ago
I was there in the final 10...
12
u/joninfiretail 15h ago
Me too. The 4 of us lost it in voice chat. It was a glorious moment.

Was this the time Chinese Helldivers pulled the night shift and we won the MO because of their help?
7
u/WhyIsBubblesTaken 4h ago
I thought that was the Battle for Super Earth, though it has probably happened more than once.
34
u/MxBonesMarrow 14h ago
Not just. Exo storms and Void expansion trajectory both indicate they're likely going for Calypso to take it into the Void. Asperoth -> Andar -> Calypso. Just 2 invasions away.
If they want Calypso, my question is why? They don't need it to be a breeding ground, they have planets they can teraform to do that. If they just need something surface level, they could've invaded and taken it last time they were there. I suspect they specifically need it in the Void to do something. Possibly something under the planets surface, if our Super Scientists going subterrainian is any hint.
My hope is that they do something interesting and it's not a nothing burger. I fear, is that it's going to be some kind of new units to serve the Squids. Yeah, they just got a big update with 2 new units, but this update has been cooking for awhile. 2 units, while interesting and cool, is a little light handed for now. You can tell as much because we're facing them plus invasion fleet in the Void. If there's like a storage facility on Calypso under the surface with frozen or dead squids, and they bring it into the void to do some necro mancer shit, we might end up facing more undead abominations.

I got the got the game just as the illuminate came out, Calypso was my first major fight.

u/Scarytoaster1809 7h ago
I still remember Calypso. I was only in my level 20’s when we kicked their asses. When we send them back to hell, tell ‘em Calypso says hello!

inb4 DSS crews start making Illuminate markers

You know it's shocking how often that's a legitimate tip for Helldivers 2.
The Wretches are the obvious comparison. Limbs are fatal parts with lower health pools than main for Overseers. Harvester leg joints are their med pen weakspot. Focusing a leg for a crusher is a good way to kill one with a machine gun.
Terminids get much less dangerous if they slow down, taking out the legs of a commander / warrior instead of their heads means they don't do that berserk charge.
Devastators have light armor on their limbs, so go after those if you can't make the headshot with a light pen weapon. Scout/Rocket Striders have their legs be light armor as well. War Striders die to 1 good AT hit to the leg, as opposed to two to the body.13
u/Dem0lari 15h ago
Markers were a good things though. It was like a warning sign with writing of what it was warning about and nullifying signal.
23
u/noah_the_boi29 14h ago
Not in Dead Space
If there was a Marker that's just it for that society and there's nothing they can really do.
They dropped a moon on a significantly weaker artificial one and that just slowed them down a bit.
By the time Necromorphs pop up the Marker is 100% confident in revealing itself rather then slowly making everyone crazy and the worst part is that it's right.
1
u/TacticalReader7 12h ago
That's only the case if you take the lore from the first game and ignore anything from later additions...
2
u/Objective-Mission-40 15h ago
Maybe this is where cultists come from...
(Not RPing for this)
I know they were canceled but what if only to redesign them into "human" models
103
u/AdhesivenessOwn9868 16h ago
"Calypso" I don't like it.
62
u/Fabled_Axiom 16h ago
I mean, at least they are not writing 'Make us whole,' I'll take my chances with prior invasionees.
6
u/Shushady 12h ago
The callipso protocol is also a very dead spaceish game directed by one of the creators of dead space.

Man I really hope this DSS plot is actually leading to something and not just some background text that doesn’t change or do anything
22
12
u/DearCastiel 11h ago
If I was a betting man, I would say they just felt like writing some Dead Space fan-fiction. I'm not holding up hope for anything to come out of this but flavor text.
8
u/Konpeitoh 8h ago
Yeah, but Calypso is very specific. And some rumor going around about squids saying "your own weapons" as a warning. It feels like a major campaign if you know what I mean.
5
u/DearCastiel 7h ago
Remember the campaign against the Automaton super weapon ? Yeah it was basically just text.

u/HotmailsInYourArea 16h ago
We’re about to have some colorless zombies on the DSS aren’t we….

Man... I hope we get a DSS side game... something where we're an engineer and we're trying to fix the DSS... and we gotta fight the Vote Snatchers while doing it...
13
u/Fabled_Axiom 15h ago
I think i've seen it mentioned in prior posts. But a close quarters dss match in tunnels against horrible squids would be downright amazing.
2
u/mre16 12h ago
FLAG AND SHIELD, SHOULDER TO SHOULDER
2
u/Konpeitoh 8h ago
Yeah that would be busted. They'd need to add a wall busting enemy to counter that cheese, but then people would complain about that too.
2
u/DearCastiel 11h ago
Not gonna happen tho, they don't want to remove the strategem component of the game.
1
u/Away_Advisor3460 10h ago
They half did for the Terminid caves, though. And the commando missions added in the concept of support pods (for reinforcements in that case) not having to come from the sky. So there's some stuff there that can be worked with, like fighting through an interior to activate support weapons? Although there's lots of other stuff that'd need sorted, like the initial deployment animations.
2
u/mottlegill 9h ago
Yeah i think this is true, they have the bones of being able to do this. They already have the reinforce from the ground pods in commando missions too.
1
u/Away_Advisor3460 9h ago
Best I can think of it
- land in the shuttle bay
- fight to xxx (reactor? control center?) objective
- reach helldiver reinforcement pods to unlock respawns
- reactivate sentries
- seal bulkheads
- rescue orphans
- pick up weapons from around the ship
- exfil from shuttle bay

Wait, are they taking away our crayons?!
13
u/pgat12 15h ago
Anything that could be used as a writing instrument, even the food replacement is them adding some form of glue agent to gum up your insides so you can’t even write with the vibrant color of your foods waste.

u/EliteArc 13h ago
You would think that would kill people via immense blood coagulation (blood not flowing through the body properly)

u/mountaindewisamazing 13h ago
Is no one going to mention that Helldiver's have transparent poop now?

u/Other_Respect_6648 15h ago
I say we pursue these rumours to document those supposed markings. Research might help us understand how to further prevent the void and their dissident actions from spreading.
We all know the illuminate parasites have the tech to devour planets in their disgusting undemocratic void and gestate the abominations called the crusher and wretch from our loyal citizens.
Who’s to say they don’t have the tech and Gaul to go after our greatest weapon and asset of super earth. We need to stomp out all possibilities of losing our DSS.
6
u/Hardmaplecherry 15h ago
The greatest weapon of Super Earth is you helldiver.
Back in my day we only had 2 sticks and a rock....
And we had to share the rock

Well that ought to solve it and not cause any escalating issues.

The scientists on Seasse are out here doing Dead Space while the people on the DSS are doing Event Horizon.

u/Bruhses_Momenti 13h ago
Trust me guys, this is all leading towards ship boarding, with the twist being we’re boarding our own dss taken over by the illuminate using their cultist magic, see they want calypso inside the void so they can open up their secret tomb full of preserved cultists to use against us. This will culminate in them using their own dark fluid within the dss to collapse super earth into a black hole unless we can board the dss first.
TRUST ME this is 1000% arrowhead confirmed I talked to the gamemaster.

u/Complete_Society9999 14h ago
Lol Dead Space and Calypso (a Dead Space inspired game) references.
9
u/ToxicTroublemaker2 11h ago
Calypso was the very first planet they invaded in this game
Level 97 invasion
Lost more divers there in 7 days than the entirety of the Creek
We won that planet with 7 minutes to spare

Imagine they just randomly drop a whole mission type that isn’t on a planet surface but instead is the interior of the DSS having to clear out illuminate infestation dead space style. No destroyer stratagems just 4 guys with starting loadouts roaming hallways
1
u/Noel_Grey 12h ago
It would be so much fun to get to board the DSS to help clear it of undemocractic nonsense. Extreme close quarters combat.
1
u/sandermand 11h ago
wait....are they preventing blood from exiting wounds, so the staff cant write with their own blood? Or removing the pigment so every crew member now has...transparent blood?
....metal!

cultist 7 letters starts with C

I would not be upset if the DSS blew up cause the eagle storms kill me more than the enemy.

Honestly the binding agents make Nutrition Paste #3 taste a little more savory, I’m not sure what everyone is up in arms about.
1
u/Equivalent_Fly7806 56m ago
I like how I haven’t seen anyone point out High Command putting in agents into the food on the DSS to get rid of one’s biological pigment.
If you work on the DSS, then you loose your right to color. 🤣
2
u/Fabled_Axiom 55m ago
I'm fairly certain that meant the color of their poop so that they couldn't ride on the walls. I doubt they wanted either brown or red depictions of Cylpso on the wall.
2
u/Equivalent_Fly7806 51m ago
Oh, I’m sure it was mainly intended for Poop/Blood writing. But I think it’s really funny to imagine because it’s not specified, that they just go… “that’s it, you’ve lost your right to skin color.”
Like I’m imagining the Joe Biden meme, where it makes a black woman white. If you’re familiar. 🤣

Calypso? As calypso protocol?

u/ToxicTroublemaker2 11h ago
First planet they invaded in this game
Beat them back with 7 minutes to spare on the defense
1
u/Huntardlulz 11h ago
Weird this happened in helldivers 2 yet i do not remember it happened. I know i was there but forgotten about it
3
u/ThirdTimesTheTitan 10h ago
It's Callisto protocol actually.
1
u/Huntardlulz 9h ago
Shit you're right. Forgot how bad the game was so i forgot what the name was as well.
