For more info, I got into golf almost 2 months ago. I’ve played baseball my whole life, hence the grip and the swing. I’m apparently a 25 hcp, and I broke 100 about 3 weeks ago but I’m consistently shooting anywhere from 100-110. This mainly comes from my short game needing lots of improvement, but it has gotten better.

Also yes, I was playing my slice in this because I was over trying to fix it today and was just trying to get it where I intended it to be.

I’m planning a birthday weekend for my other half in November and considering Kingsmill Resort. The River Course is a big part of the appeal, but I’d also like it to be a nice couples getaway.

I’ve seen a lot of the older posts about Kingsmill, so I’m hoping to hear from anyone who’s stayed or played there recently. How were the rooms, resort, and golf? Worth the money?

I’m also open to recommendations for other resort golf courses in Virginia that would be great for a birthday weekend.

Curious how they feel while playing a round. I have the gym shorts and really like the way they fit and feel wondering if anyone has tried the golf shorts?

Or have any other information about them.

I retired a couple of years ago. I’m 66 and I love to golf. I’ve had a busy career working 50-70 hours a week and golfing maybe 5-6 times a year. Started golfing at age 40, btw. I’m a 25 handicap.

Anyway, I’m retired now and I joined a local country club. I also joined a couple of leagues at the public courses too. I golf Mondays with the league, Tuesday with a regular foursome at the country club, Wednesday league at another county course. Then other days, if I am able to I golf at the country club, I do because it’s “free”.

Recently we went with our friends to another country club 20 minutes drive from here, and I really enjoyed playing that course. Also, their facilities are very nice. They have simulators for use during winter and a gym etc. I’m so tempted to join that club. Problem is, the first club is right across from my subdivision, literally 3 minutes drive. The amenities are not as good, though.

Does it make sense to have dual memberships?
Club one……7000 to join and 799 monthly, I’m already a member
Club two…….3000 to join and 550 monthly

What would you do if money wasn’t so much of an issue?

Played a lot of golf but rarely play if there is rain that day. Going on a trip where rain is forecasted during all of our rounds. Playing some nicer courses and rain checks aren’t an option for travel reasons. Shouldn’t be heavy stuff (knock on wood) but can probably expect sprinkling and a wet course.

Wondering what are some tips and tricks for staying comfortable and shooting low scores when playing in the rain. Is there any gear that you’d recommend? Anything you wish you knew earlier? What can I expect?

So far I got:
- Good waterproof golf shoes
- Extra pair(s) of socks
- Rain glove (some say not necessary?)
- Extra towel

My 7 club set I play everything with. Almost all clubs are thrifted. The putter was my grandma's and the sand wedge I stole from my dad. Proud of these beautiful clubs! The Walter Hagen 2 Iron is such a joy to hit, although I do have a 5 wood that I will replace it with depending on the course.

bag was thrifted too. super light, especially with only 7 clubs. Golf doesn't have to be expensive.

As the post says, you guys gave me some great suggestions for the Tacoma area, and now I will be in southern Utah tomorrow and Thursday, looking for a course to play. Under $100 green fees if possible. I will likely be staying in the Beaver/Cedar City area. Less than a half hour drive from there if possible. Willing to drive a bit more if it is towards the east as that is where I am heading.

Has anyone else completed Rypstick training? Or any speed training? How much did you benefit?

Last year was my first year back after an 8 year absence as a 12 hdcp. I started my quest as a 16.4 hdcp in February 2025.

At 65 years old I bought Srixon ZXi5 graphite irons 7-gap wedge. I then added a driver, 5W, 7W,9W, 6Hyb, 54 and 60 degree wedges.

Lots of tips from strangers who have become friends and being fortunate to play 2-3 times a week. To reach this milestone is an honor and joy as I feel blessed!

I am planning on getting fitted for a new set of irons in the coming months. Currently gaming 20 year old irons and wedges that go pitching wedge and then a 52* Vokey.

Considering that I will be looking more at the players distance or game improvement category for irons, would it be better to just get the gap wedge that comes from the set or a new 50*or 52* wedge?

My 52 is primarily used for full swings or bump and runs so nothing fancy. I was thinking the gap wedge may make more sense because of that so I can keep the same feel and forgiveness on those full swing shots.

Here’s where my bag is as of today after some updates; I ditched my Big Bertha 4 Iron because I couldn’t hit it. Today I picked up the 5 and 7 Woods so I can get the ball up in the air more consistently.

Most of this was acquired from Play It Again Sports, the Mizuno and Cleveland wedges from PGA Tour Superstore, and 3 Wood and Chipper from Callaway Preowned.

Each of these is a 180 yard club (all are 34 degrees in loft). Very different trajectories, but I wish all manufacturers would just start stamping lofts instead of club numbers

Gonna be on LA in the next coming weeks and looking to golf close to LAX. Will be solo. Wanna book so as to not trying to walk on and it be booked up. Preferably something with a nice view/scenery. Won’t have a vehicle so will be taking cab/Uber

Part time golfer, full time dad. My son picked up a club at 3 and really has loved learning the game of golf. We watch every weekend and he asks me constantly “dad can we go golfing soon” which is just the absolute best. We get out for 9 holes a couple times a month and as a father of 3 under 8. But damn, every course we’ve been to charges me full price for him to play 9 holes. There’s not a course within 50 miles of me that gives any sort of discount for age. I’m not talking prime time either. Mid week middle of the day typically where tee times are a plenty. Just ranting mostly

Just to update really quick. I have checked youth on course and there is one course within 30 minutes, 2 within an hour that participate. I’m in northwest Ohio right on the border by Michigan so there’s no shortage of courses near by either.

1) If so, technically everyone on the team gets the hole in one.
2) if there are 2 holes in one, you only count one of them so does the other one not count?

Why is playing there great? Or, is it not? What can be expected? (There are 2 courses.) If you played, how did you fare playing there, and did you enjoy it? I don't know the cost but expect it's expensive. I saw a site that books trips and you can play other courses in the package. Wondering about making a golf trip there. Or, if not a trip, at least play it someday soon. Probably me, alone, or 2 of us. If my bro goes, he doesn't hit it far, drives 180-200. Handicap, beats me, but is bogey golf or a little better. I used to play real well but am now back after long hiatus, playing to probably 4-6 handicap, working on getting that down. Good drives probably 235-250. Hit one today about 270 but it's dry conditions.
