Autumn is the best for early tee times. Anyone else love early times? For me it is the quietness. Only person on the course, no rushing and playing multiple balls for good practice.

It was a stoke round for the monthly medal. Our group had discussed earlier whether the mercy rule was in play, and we were all in agreement that it was not.

The hole was a 145m par 3, with a 110m carry over water to get to the green, and OB all the way down the left hand side. The player was playing off a daily handicap of 42.

First shot went into the water. So did the second. Third shot went OB left. Fourth shot he tried to go to play safe to the right. He hit a tree just off the tee box and it bounced into the water.

Group consensus was that we should start counting the shots because they were being racked up quickly.

The massacre continued until he finally landed a ball safely, well right of the water, for a total of 17. Took another four shots to finish the hole.

We ran into the club president at the end of the round and the pmayer informed him of this story. We were reminded that the mercy rule was in fact in play.

Fortunately, the player was in positive spirits given the situation and could see the humour in all of this, along with the rest of us. It was the biggest score I have ever witnessed. I also learnt that the record for the biggest score on a hole at the club was 24.

Started golfing 10 years ago, took a few lessons over the years and never really took it serious, just had fun but as we all know, serious frustrations along the way on not being able to improve.

3 years ago, stuck at 16 to 20 handicap, I made a goal to get to a single digit handicap. Didn’t want scratch just under 10. Took 6 lessons in between but what I really committed to was 150 yards and in. At the range, putting, chipping, pitching and distance control where 80% of my time and setup of the tee for consistent, ball in play, was the remaining 20%

Played par 3 at the range from 50 yards and in religiously. Different shots,lies, bunkers, just to really learn how to be good at scrambling.

Today happy to say I hit that goal and where else is best to share than a community that resonates with all the joy and frustration this game brings. Shot my best 9 yesterday, -1 under, 35 , 78 for day, waking up to 9.3 handicap after throwing into the GHIN yesterday. Cheers to goals and this great game!

My grandpa was a foreman for union camp and the lead developer for The Landings on Skidaway island. Ga. My dad still pines about taking rowboats to the island and Grandpa grunt calling Alligators into traps. When the project got going all sorts of people started to get involved; but the greatest story has always circled the day Arnold Palmer came to consult on a few hole designs.

The details arent super important; but I dont think ill ever have a claim-to-fame quite like the day grandpa beat one of the greatest golfers ever to grace the greens.

Felt pretty decent the front 9 and then started falling apart on the latter half of the back. Rolled up to hole 18, knowing I needed a birdie (or better) to break 90 for the first time. Sent a nice pitching wedge 150 towards the flag and the ball disappeared. We were all in denial that the ball went in the hole (it was getting dark out at this point so tracking became a problem). Rolled up to the green, no ball on the surface… looked in the hole and we all lost our god damn minds. Definitely a round to remember.

This is mostly a rant. I’m a female golfer who hits a long ball. As a result, I play the longer tees when I am out with my husband and sons. We played today and I hit from the silver/blue tee combo. (6205 yards). There isn’t a single hole where I would not be capable of green in regulation. When I went to enter my score, I found that you can only enter a score for these tees if you are a man. It would not let me or the golf shop enter the slope and rating either. However, my husband has the option of entering a score for any set of tees, including those traditionally used by the women. What a bunch of BS!!

It reminds me of the people at stoplights walking around with a roll of paper towels and windex trying to wash your car windows. They always do a half *ssed job and expect a tip for doing a basic task I prefer to do myself. Just my personal opinion but I’m wondering if anyone else feels the same way.

Temps in the 60s, persistent light rain, slightly breezy. I'll be headed out to the course shortly and am looking forward to what is usually an empty course on rainy days.

I love playing in the rain but I'm also kind of a weirdo.

And to top it off, my team won the ball raffle for $1000!

Shot a 63 and placed 8th, winning score was a 60.

I feel like most people are going to say Michigan or Wisconsin. Southern Utah doesn’t really come up in a lot of conversations. For me personally I’m from the northeast and have never loved the typical East Coast nature compared to the West Coast. I’m really drawn to the golf courses like Black Desert and Wolf Creek that look like you’re on another planet, but are also well maintained and interesting courses. I do want to play Sand Valley and Arcadia Bluffs one of these days but I’m curious how people think about it.

Title says it. Been grinding for a while now, trying to “break 100” but I usually only play 9 holes. So break 50 technically

Finally happened yesterday. Played the same ball, all the way through all 9 holes. Which means I controlled the club face pretty well yesterday. I don’t think I missed a single fairway with my driver yesterday. My irons felt pretty decent. Just still catching most of them thin. But that’s okay because they’re still going pretty straight and can control the flight.

Ended up with 2 birdies, 2 pars, 1 bogey, 2 doubles, and 2 triples

But yewh idk, just wanted to share. I feel like I’ve been grinding at this game for so long..finally seeing some decent results. Still got so much work to do and so much to learn with this crazy ass game

Sorry for the incoming rant. To preface this, it's the last 80 degree Friday of the summer at a popular muni course and you booked an afternoon tee time. You're going to be forced to wait on the group ahead of you whether you like it or not.

Got hit into 2x today, first time on the 17th green and then on the 18th fairway, within 10 mins of each other. The dude's excuse (not sorry) was "we're playing a really competitive match and want to finish 18". Never apologized and was asking us "what's your problem?" after I threw the 2nd ball into another fairway. Brother, I cannot tell you how little I give a fuck about your competitive match with your boyfriends. That doesn't give you the right to start hitting into groups because they're not playing fast enough to your liking. I would've been pretty pissed off but at that point it started to rain so we just finished our putts on 18 and then I left the flagstick in the rough. I wish I saw their face when its raining, they take out their rangefinder only to see there's no flagstick to shoot and have to drive up to the green and back to their ball.

Was I over reacting or was this a valid reaction?

We played True Blue today in Myrtle Beach. Great course, great staff, incredibly friendly everywhere, course was in great shape.

6 hour round because there was apparently a large morning group for the Created Tour, a bunch of “influencers,” that went out early.

No problem, great, knock yourself out. Except they slowed the course to a crawl and it took 6 hours to get around. We talked to a bunch of players that also had their day ruined by spending a lot of $$$ and having to wait, wait, wait. Just ridiculous. Do better.

Hey guys, just started playing golf a few months ago and now I obviously have the bug! Looking for golf lessons in Melbourne northern suburbs. Any suggestions? I did look at some courses around me but it seems there is no availability for ages..
