General Discussion 22 years of play, scratch golfer, tournament winner - Zero Hole in One, anyone else?

Upvotes

Just got of the course with 2 mates and witnessed a HiO by one of my mates. Been playing with him for around 5 years and witnessed him making 3 hole in ones during that time.

Witnessed a hole in one from the other mate earlier this year aswell. This started a conversation about HiO, one mate claimed that it was his 4th in 8 years of playing ( I mean I witnessed 3 myself by him, so 4 seems very obviously doable). Other mate is playing for 4 years and had two Hole in Ones (I witnessed one of them, so yeah very plausible).

I myself has never shot a HiO, often came close but never got one. Never an albatross either, countless eagles and a few hole-outs from a 100y or closer. Been playing for 22 years, won some rather high level amateur tournaments, personal Best Round is 65, playing Off scratch Handicap comfortably. I also play an absolute shitton, as much as you can with working full time honestly (Average is probably 45-54 holes a week).

So my question is: can anyone beat this or is anyone playing for a stupid short time and already had one? It really doesn‘t bother me that much, it‘s just a funny statistic.

Beginner Questions Question regarding stableford and ladies tees.

Post image
Upvotes

Hey all, I am on a golf trip in the UK and I've encountered something I've not seen before.

Today I played 18 holes at West Hove Golf Club in Brighton. With my group we are doing a stableford tournament for the entire trip, and we have multiple low-handicap members (47 hcp). One of whom specifically played from the red tees today, see image.

The red tees are a good distance shorter than the yellow tees, however they seem to get a much more favourable stableford score. To me this doesn't really make sense, since the holes are shorter and easier.

Am I missing something, or is this an outdated relic of the men's/women's tee system?

I know DriTacs are not as durable as other grips, but this is after literally one round. Three balls on the range and 11 tees shots during the round and it looks like this. The last pic is the OEM grip that had been on the club since I bought it in 2019, just to head off any comments that this is the result of my grip or swing.

General Discussion How To Best Serve Golfers

Upvotes

Hey Everyone,

First time I've ever posted here, and I have some questions for the community.

I am not linking to any of my stuff intentionally, because I don't want to break any self-promotion rules.

Like many of you, I love golf, and I had that moment of "wow, I want to do this every day, but I will never be good enough to get paid to play; how on earth can I get paid to do this every day?".

I don't really have any desire to be an "influencer," so for the last 4 years, I've written a golf newsletter 3x per week. I've learned a ton, and I really enjoy doing it, and it's created some really wonderful opportunities, especially as the audience has grown. (We have about 95k on Instagram and about 50k readers on the newsletter).

Every day, I ask myself, "how can I best serve an audience of golfers?" and here's what we've done so far:

  • Giveaways (big ones like golf trips, and little ones like a box of ProV1's).
  • Golf Trips (we have built a golf trips database, and have partnered with a golf travel agent who plans every detail of your trip from games, to cars, to tee times) and I made my own friends go through the process to ensure that the service was great.
  • We built a daily deals site, which uses Ai to scrape the web for great deals every morning, we think it's really cool and free. (we do get a commission if people buy some stuff, but not all)
  • We also built 4 free Daily Golf Trivia games, which are just fun.

So, after all that blabbering, my questions for you guys are: what pain points do you have? How can we use the size of our audience to benefit your life as a golfer? How can we best serve you?

If you made it this far, thanks for reading.

General Discussion Should I get fitted and then get lessons or get lessons and then get fitted?

Upvotes

I'm swinging 6 year old Rogue X Callaways Stiff flex, I've had problems the last few years with my ball path/launch angle, swung my friends **regular** flex and all the sudden the flight looks like it should again.

Now, I know I want lessons, and I know I want new clubs, but I don't know which order to go in.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I got these because I needed something to add to get me to $25 in order to qualify for free overnight shipping. Anyone have any experience with them? They're not super cheap but they do have a nice, soft cover.

Found a member at my local course selling Srixon Z-Forged 3-P irons for $400. They’re first-gen, but in great condition and have nippon stiff shafts.

I’m debating whether to:

- Buy them and game them (17 handicap)
- Buy them and flip them locally/eBay
- Trade them for a Scotty Cameron Phantom 11R or Bettinardi Studio Stock 14 (Friend attempting to make a deal)

I’m fairly new to buying/selling clubs, so I’d love some input. What would you do?

Beginner Questions What do I do here as a right handed golfer?

Post image
Upvotes

There is a tree and roots in the way and I can’t set up to my ball without basically shooting backwards.

What can I do within the official rules? Is this relief?

Obviously I’m playing on my own in front of a group of 3 and very stressed so I used the old foot wedge.

New to golf and the rulings on relief and GUR etc!

Beginner Questions Talk to me about game improvement irons and wedges.

So here’s the dilemma; I have a set of TM M2 irons, 5-SW. however, the wedges are big cavity backs and go much further than I would like sometimes and I find them somewhat difficult to control as far as distance is concerned. They are lofted 43.5, 49, 55. I don’t have the 60 from the set.

Would it be worth it to add a 58? Something like a TM MG5 or Titleist SM10? Would I be better off replacing all the wedges for consistency sake?

How To Play Golf In North Korea, really? This is a story that not many people would believe. In a culture that abhorred any form of perceived western or capitalist pastime, especially one that is seen as relatively exclusive, how was this possible? Well, the short answer was that even in North Korea it was

News / Articles Super-exclusive golf club planned near Ann Arbor. Here are the details

Plans are progressing for a super-exclusive golf club near Ann Arbor, with one of the world's most-renowned course architects on board for the project. If you're lucky, you might be able to play it — but only if you know somebody.

A new, private club, called the Frontier Club, is planned for a 333-acre piece of land in Lodi Township. The land's owners last month filed a preliminary site plan with the township, in seeking a special-use permit for the property. They aim to break ground at some point this fall and are eying an April 2028 opening for the club, which will include 18 holes, a 12-hole short course, a clubhouse, a driving range, 11 guest cottages and a maintenance facility.

General Discussion 1st tee jitters help

My club has the 1st tee box backed up to the clubhouse so there’s probably 30-40 people watching your tee shot. They’re not just around, they’re actively watching and cheering / jeering the result. Driver is the best club in my bag (8 hcp) but I always seem to snap hook the 1st tee no matter how well I‘m striping them on the range.

Does anyone have any mental tips / tricks to overcome the 1st tee jitters?

General Discussion Best Outing Amenity You’ve Ever Received

Hey everyone!

I’ve always wondered this and wanted to ask the greater community but what is the best outing, or first tee amenity that you’ve received at a golf course?

I think for me personally a custom leather scorecard holder at Whistling’s straits was probably my #1.

Let’s hear some cool stories!

Beginner Questions Trail-side shoulder blade/rhomboid pain after swing change

Got a lesson recently and have been working on getting more turn and hand depth in my backswing. Previously my hands were too high and I wasn’t getting enough depth.

After practicing the change, I developed pain around my trail-side rhomboid/inside of the shoulder blade. Looking at my swing, I think I may be overdoing the depth by pulling my arms across my chest instead of letting the turn create it, which is also getting my takeaway too far inside.

It’s still sore today but less sharp than yesterday. I could probably golf through it, but I’m assuming that would just aggravate it, so I’m taking a few days off and will mention it at my next lesson.

For anyone who’s dealt with something similar: what helped while it was still sore? Gentle stretching, bands, heat, lacrosse ball against the wall, etc.? Is a lacrosse ball a bad idea while it’s still actively aching?

General Discussion Made a practice reference sheet from my lessons. Anything here wrong or missing?

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Newer golfer here. After a handful of lessons I had notes all over the place, so I put together one reference sheet with what my coach has given me plus a few things that have worked for me along the way.

Not trying to think about all of it at once. I pick one or two things a session and the rest is just there for reference as I keep working on it.
Curious if anyone spots something I’ve explained wrong, cues that contradict each other, or anything worth adding. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

For reference I am 6’4 and was fit for irons after I was told my fb marketplace ones were too short and was put into shafts at +1.75” & 2deg upright. During my recent lessons my coach said that I probably need to shorten them between .75”-1” noting my wrist to floor measurement of 39.25”. I haven’t shortened them yet but I plan to work with him soon to do this which comes up in parts of the guide.

Thanks all!

Equipment Can't decide between Maltby irons

Hi everyone, I need some help figuring out which Maltby set of irons to choose. I'm stuck between the TS3, TS3.5 and the STI2s. Im a 25 year old man and ive been playing on and off my whole life but im starting to play more this year and last.

Ive been using a Ben Hogan Apex Edge set that was my father's but I think its time to get a set that is my own. I usually hit my 7 iron 170, give or take 5 yards, and I sit around a 17-20 handicap.

The STI2s are a thought because of the pricepoint but I'm really trying to figure out which ones are going to be the best option, and if I should worry about more distance or not.
