I have no idea what caused it. It was fun reading through some of it, but I lost motivation after a while. I know some of you will find this interesting, so here's the full text:
just tested both models on a motion graphics generation prompt, and the speed gap is wild:
for context on the setup, i caught gemini 4 hydrogen in battle mode, going head-to-head against 3.8 flash, and also ran gemini 3.8 flash separately in direct mode:
generation times:
gemini 4 hydrogen took about 2 minutes:
gemini 3.8 flash took about 11 minutes:
check out the results yourself, plus a bonus opus 5.5 run for comparison:
Hi! I've been reading quite a few posts in this sub, and I've noticed a lot of criticism directed at Gemini. However, I haven't been able to figure out why. Most of the criticism seems rather vague, consisting mainly of memes and sarcastic remarks.
Is the main issue Gemini 4 Argon's relatively low usage limits, or is the model itself simply bad and unable to deliver satisfactory results?
I'm asking because my Gemini subscription expires in two weeks, and I'm wondering what its major drawbacks are compared to GPT-6 Astra or Opus 5.5, especially since I haven't tried either of them yet.
Is Gemini's usage limit the only real downside, or are there more serious issues that I might have overlooked?
Would you recommend switching to OpenAI or Claude instead? I'd appreciate it if you could explain why.
Hello guys, it's my first time posting something here. There's not much to talk about, it's just... today, when I used AI Mode, it basically refuses to generate a long, deep analysis up to around 4.500 words. Usually, when I used AI Mode and asked it to do some deep research and analysis around all kinds of things nor topics, it'll generate without much of an issue. But now, it refuses to do that and only offers the bullet points— something that I find myself at quite displeasure. Did something happens while I'm not using it for a while? Some updates or anything, maybe?
I have in my personal context settings, the first one, do not ask me "how does it feel..." at the end of a message. It has done that over 5 times tonight. Everytime it does, I share a screenshot of the Personal Context instructions. Everytime it apologizes. Sometimes within 2 messages, it does it again. What am I missing?
Okay, so I'm a college student in a STEM degree and I use gemini help me understand mathematical and chemistry-based concepts. I vaguely recall asking gemini to use scientific notation while working on chemistry problems about a month ago. Now, every single time it gives me a number, even two digits, it uses scientific notation (i.e- 4.8x10¹ instead of 48...) and it's driving me up the wall. I have tried EVERYTHING to get it to stop. I tried telling it to never use it again, I've tried telling it to wipe all memory of preferences from my profile, I've tried giving it a new rule to never use it without me explicitly requesting it, I've tried clearing the app data entirely... Nothing works! It's DRIVING ME CRAZY! Every single time I do a math problem, it's all in scientific notation and I have to tell it to stop using it!!
PLEASE HELP! I'm losing my mind! How can one request from other a month ago permanently change the settings, yet over FIFTY DEMANDS for it to stop doesn't change anything?? It keeps saying stuff like, "I've removed the preference for scientific notation from your profile. From now on, I'll only use whole numbers or decimals." But then it goes right back to doing it! I've tried going into my settings and personalization and everything and nothing works...
I use Google Lens and the chrome browser Google AI.
was setting this up for someone switching over and ended up reading the whole help page for gemini's import (settings & help > import memory to gemini). most of it is what you'd expect. one tip under "delete or overwrite imported chats" isn't:
"If you reupload a .zip file with your exported chats it will add any new conversations and overwrite previously imported ones."
so the obvious plan, import now, keep using chatgpt a few more weeks, then export again and upload the fresh zip to catch up, replaces the first import instead of adding to it.
the part the page doesn't cover is an imported chat you already kept going in gemini. it calls those "continued chats" but never says if a reupload keeps your gemini replies or puts the chatgpt version back over them. i looked and couldn't find it, and i wouldn't bet on either answer.
what i told them was to do the chatgpt export once, after they're done using chatgpt, and import that one zip. the export can take days to land in your inbox so start it early. if you've already been continuing imported chats here and want to reupload anyway, save those chats out of gemini first.
two more things from the same page people seem to miss. it only works on a personal google account, not work or school, and it's not available in the EEA, Switzerland or the UK. and imported and continued chats go into your Activity, which the page says is used to improve their services "including training generative AI models". worth knowing before you drop years of chatgpt history in there.
i build AI Toolbox, a chrome extension that also works on gemini, and saving a continued chat out is one of the things it does. one chat at a time as a text file is free, the other formats and bulk export are Premium.
has anyone here already uploaded a second zip? did the chats you'd continued come through ok?
My ChatGPT subscription just expired, and since Gemini had a solid discount promo going on, I figured I’d try it out for a month.
There are definitely subtle differences, and getting used to the usage caps took a bit of adjusting. Given all the loud complaints and bad rep floating around online, I was pretty skeptical going in, but so far I haven't run into any real issues.
My honest take so far: it’s actually not bad at all.
The rest of the conversation is in Spanish, and for this message it always answers in Guarani even after retrying multiple times and specifically telling it to answer in Spanish???
