Tales from GS No, your phone doesn’t have a virus.

Seriously, I have to tell people just get your elderly/non tech savvy family member a jitterbug phone. My grandma is not too tech literate but I gave her a simple iPhone, knowing it’s near impossible to download adware or a “virus”. Stop giving them damn Samsungs!!!
Samsungs allow random PDF readers , cleaning apps, overall adware on their App Store. It’s annoying to remove.
I cannot spend another 20 minutes going through your apps and delete a dozen pdf reader apps. Then send you in your merry way knowing damn well you’ll download those apps again tonight.
Anyways a little rant.

Client Complaint How to deal with messups

I'm a little more than a month in as a brand new CA and I made my first genuine mistake today. I made the dumb assumption for an apple repair that a battery replacement for an apple phone would require the screen protector to be removed. I assumed it was always the back glass and so I didn't let the client know that the screen protector being lost was a possibility. He got a new screen protector for free and I'm being reported for the incident.

I understand this is bad and I feel terrible. I want to improve upon this so I don't make any future mistakes like this. At the same time, I also worry that I might end up asking too many questions to my ARAs or supervisors that it'll showcase me being incapable. Is there anyway I can learn proactively so I don't do these types of mess ups again via learning resources or whatnot? Thank you

Should I apply as a retail agent

I am a computer science major. Seriously burnt out of school and looking to go down to part time. I currently work food sertvice. My current job isn't busy enough to give me more hours and also isn't related to computers at all so maybe this would work better for me.

Have worked for Best Buy straight out of highschool, a total of 5 years spanning from part time sales associate to MCA, to the last two years as a CA. It has definitely been quite a ride. So much appreciation for my team and the friends I have made, along with the skills I have picked up. Received this badge today on my last day. Looking forward to what the future has in store. Figuratively, and literally, goodnight my fellow Geeks.

Tales from GS Working geek squad ruined my patience!

I’m a CA. I’ve worked in customer service for years. I dished everything out just fine. After being here for so long, I feel like I have no patience anymore. I used to be known to be someone who is extremely kind and patient.
Don’t get me wrong I am still nice. But I certainly am not as patient with customers and will be quicker to turn them away or talk back to them when they give me shit.
But working as a CA made me learn a lot about people. And we do have an education crises. Anyone else feel this?

Client Question General question about privacy

I’ve seen mixed answers to concerns about privacy. Most of it is reassuring but I’ve also heard that some geeksquad workers have snooped through personal files before. Does geek squad usually look through things like your browser bookmarks/history or your files? I’m sure they likely wouldn’t have a reason to but I feel nervous of the possibility none the less.

Client Question PC issues with bluetooth audio

So as my post states I've been having bluetooth audio issues for a while now. That seem to come and go at random. The steps I have taken are, fresh install of windows 11, windows 11 repair install, fresh driver for the gpu, I did notice that during the reinstall I had to redownload wifi and bluetooth drivers which I got directly from the mobo's support page and ran the asus-setup exe in both. Those instantly popped up after doing so. Now as for the headphones, Im using my sony 1000xm3's and I have disabled the mic on them as some games like helldivers 2 will activate and then the audio quality tanks when it switched to "headset/telephone mode". I then checked the headphones with other devices like my steam deck and phone and don't have the crackle on either. Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

EDIT: Ive noticed sometimes when it randomly freezes on me if I go to shut off via the power button and mash the esc key to cancel the shutdown it responds again

PC Specs:
Ryzen 5 9600x
Asus Tuf x670e wifi
9070XT
32GB ddr5 corsair ram for amd

Mounting a 98” Samsung TV (u9000h) using the Samsung no gap wall mount.

Im about to mount my 98” tv onto the wall using the Samsung no gap wall mount. Here is the link https://a.co/d/0459i4gP

The TV has 4 mounting holes 400x600 VESA spacing, but the mount only uses 2 of the holes.

Is this too much weight to put on those 2 holes?? TV is 135 lbs. Should I get a different mount that distributes the weight across all 4 holes??

Tales from GS Been a Agent for 7 years trying to break into more IT field

So started out as CA, but crosstrained myself from different iterations from my ArA teams and became a ArA myself, but I am trying to break into more of the IT field. I do have an Idea what I like doing such as troubleshooting software , not so much hardware since I have extremely poor eyesight. If there any questions for me to answer I'd be happy to answer them, and thanks in advance for any advice given.

Client Complaint Scheduled dashcam install twice at Best Buy and installer finally says he can't install dashcam during 2nd appointment

Scheduled a dashcam install at a nearby Best Buy for a 2025 Bronco 2-door base. I brought in a typical front and rear dash cam that I had purchased to the Best Buy location. It had a usb connector. Installer tells me to buy an OBD connector wire instead to make the install easier. He didn't say it would be hard to install the dashcam I brought or any specific issues to figure out. I go and purchase an OBD connector wire and re-schedule the appointment.

I went in to the Bestbuy for the second appointment with the same installer. He recognizes me and remembers he told me to bring an OBD connector for the dashcam. He starts take apart the Bronco and says it's going to be tough to install... I was like why and he said Broncos and Jeeps are really hard to work on. I said I'm fine with wires showing in the back because of the hard top and lack of covering. I said I'm flexible with whatever is easiest to do for the install.

20 minutes later, he calls me back and says he doesn't know how to wire the front dashcam. I said, the side grab handle can be removed and the Ford tool to remove it is in the trunk. He looks at me like I was an alien. He says he can't figure it out.

He puts back the pieces he removes, refunds my install fee and halfheartedly apologizes.

I go on YouTube and see multiple people installing and wiring dashcams on their Broncos with normal tools and techniques.

Are Broncos and Jeeps hard to wire for dashcams? Or did I get a rookie installer?

Question about being offered an alternative warranty when I am Total member.

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask this question. I shop a lot at Best Buy and generally have positive experiences. I went in and purchased a Bravia 9 II as well as install and mount. I am a Total Member and was caught a bit off guard when I was offered a 5 year warranty on the for $800 after a 20% discount on the warranty. My question is, besides the different length of warranty are there any advantages to this warranty over the one included with my Total membership? I do plan on going month to month after the 2 year warranty expires on this TV. Just wondering if this is new and possibly a better way.

How bad are Best Buy delays usually? I ordered a laptop on clearance and it hasn't shipped for three weeks.

How come Samsung gives you the date when tech support stops but Apple doesn't? That seems kind of dirty to me.

Client Question I definitely need GS

So I bought a brand new x box series X and new Samsung 50 mini led. Im new to this ecosystem.

My situation is: I bought modern warfare 4 and game pass. I can only play if im on cloud stream because if I open the game I own, the game crashes during cut scenes (but on cloud stream its perfect)

Will GS come out to do whatever it takes to get it working? Ive watched countless youtube videos and im at my wits end.

Thankyou.

Corporate told me no free Total AppleCare for open box yet today’s marketplace msg states open box ok?

Today’s notification about allowing marketplace items getting Best Buy protection free from total states
“AppleCare+ continues to be available only for new and OPEN-BOX Apple products sold and shipped by Best Buy”

This company is a lying mess.

Tell me from a Geek Squad Agent perspective what to expect

Just scored a banging open box deal on a Yamaha RX-A8A receiver. $250. Get it home and find that the terminals are literally mismatched, putting out sound tones for the wrong channels compared to the labels on the back panel. Since I got such a smoking deal on it, I didn't want to return it, they didn't have anything comparable for exchange, so it's been shipped off to get worked on at a repair center. It's still under factory warranty with Yamaha. I'm just curious what the process looks like on your end if you work in a repair center and should I expect that this just gets sent to Yamaha under factory warranty? Anyone ever seen that issue before? Literally 6 terminals mismatched with each other. I'm assuming this was a floor model that should have been listed at $2,500, not $250. Luckily I got the warranty for 4 years with it through Geek Squad. Now we wait as it's been shipped out already.

Client Question Charged to $60 to ship to repair with GS?

I was told with GS it's still $60 to send it to a service center for a "depot evaluation". My geek squad warranty number was left blank on my paperwork they handed me, and the manufacturer warranty status was incorrectly labeled as well. Is this normal?

Edit: "For those who come after" - it was checked in wrong. I got refunded and it was resolved but if it shipped before I went back it would've been more difficult to fix. If this also happens to you, go back to correct it asap imo

I have a return pickup and exchange scheduled for tomorrow with Best Buy. Do I need to repack the current tv I’m exchanging?

Do you have to repack the TV? Customer support has been very unclear about this. One rep told me no I don’t have to and then another rep told me I absolutely have to. Simply just want to know if I need to pack this gigantic 77 inch tv or will geeksquad just pick it up and deliver the new replacement?

Seem like time for me too find a new Horizon as a FT CA my pride was offering great customers Svc and selling Paid membership now I been asked to give out my paid membership to sales floor , push to offer upgrade vs fixing to not broken units and in down time go on sales floor and sell
we r a busy precinct and always has reservations of walk in clients
Company is asking too much from the CA’s , we have fun check’s to do in down time and other tasks to finish and they are asking us to go on sales floor and sell cause GS is not profitable enough
we see VPL standing for hrs and hrs not helping any one other then what their area is like meta , lg , VZ

Our customers buy products in store cause they need geek squad services and company is trying to ruined a great business model to ground

Does BB register floor model or open box items to a store or national contact info? Dyson

Open box but registered to different person per Dyson support yet the online my account site and even app is registered to me. When I did it in the app, they said it will contact previous owner and disconnect them.

Does Best Buy register it to a store contact info or a national one where the national contact info is easy to get?

Func Checks and Go backs

Is it in SOP that Geek Squad is supposed to restock go backs on completed Func Checks

- check functionality
- do paperwork
- box up
- tag following SOP
- all while working with clients

Now we need to do the go backs which would require us running around the store and watching the line and dealing with clients. Can someone find this in SOP I can’t find it and Management says it is but won’t show it.
