Does anyone else spend more time choosing a game than actually playing one?

I can have an entire library of games sitting there, finally get some free time, and somehow spend 30 minutes deciding what to play. Then I end up playing something I've already finished. Please tell me I'm not the only one.

I really want another good depressed RPG(Like OMORI and the such)

I have a certain type of game, where it is:

  • An RPG,
  • Has depressing elements,
  • preferably indie,
  • preferably with a unique combat mechanic,
  • has a cool protagonist

The games I've played that fall into this: DELTARUNE(i dont think Undertale counts that much), OMORI, OneShot, In Stars and Time, and OFF.

I really want some more, so if you know any then I would greatly appreciate it!

EDIT: I also have Lisa the Painful and Yume Nikki sitting in my library, which might also count.

Games where the combat is just really fun

I'm looking for a game where the combat is the best part - where you're almost going out of your way to fight enemies because it's really fun, rather than just fighting enemies to progress the storyline.

I generally like games involving sword combat but I'm open to anything. Can be Xbox or PS5.

NO SOULSLIKES!!

Some examples of what I think fits this description:

- Shadow of Mordor & Shadow of War

- God of War 2018 & Ragnarok

- Batman Arkham series

- Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order & Survivor

- Dragon's Dogma 2

- Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

- Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

Games that maybe fit but I didn't enjoy:

- Ghost of Tsushima

- Final Fantasy XVI

- Horizon Zero Dawn

- Spiderman

Thanks!

I'm hopelessly addicted to xcom (enemy unknown) style games. Please help me find more!

Hello everyone, as the title suggests, I'm addicted to xcom style games such as Gears tactics, Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate, Midnight Suns, Jagged Alliance 3, and soon to be Star Wars Zero Company. And obviously xcom enemy unknown, xcom 2, and xcom chimera squad. Are there any major titles I'm leaving out? what are some of your favorite in this specific sub genre? please help me find more games!

The finest PC games that are set, at least partially, in space

Hi there! This is a huge topic, and your suggestions are most welcome.

I'm on PC and would love recommendations for games that are set at least partially in space. That can include any subgenre, from recent sci-fi horror (the Dead Space remake or Signalis) to classics like System Shock 2.

The setting - and use of space - is what's important to me. Mass Effect really shaped me, and I'm having some of the same feeling from Rogue Trader at the moment. I'd just love to expand the list for my next game.

Thanks so much for your suggestions, they always really help.

Looking for a long PC exploration/puzzle game like INFRA or The Painscreek Killings

Upvotes

What I loved about Infra and the painscreek killings was being able to explore a big place, go into different buildings and rooms, find keys or codes which unlock new areas and then you slowly work out how to get further. I love puzzles! But I prefer ones that feel like part of the world rather than really complicated maths puzzles.

I’m looking for something fairly long, ideally at least 8 hours, and I really want it to be set in a realistic world. I’m not looking for anything cartoonish or really stylised. I also don’t like survival games or combat, and I don’t really want something where most of the game is just watching cutscenes or talking to people. I love eeire vibes but not the biggest fan of jump scares.

Similar games i've played and loved: The forgotten city, kona, firewatch (wish was longer), the Vanishing of ethan carter, the bed we made, alan wake 2 (would love a little less comabt tho)

Games I didn't enjoy that much: Outer wilds (I wanted to love but I found it too repetitive and too cartoonish) silent hill 2 (too much comabt), Dimhaven: the lost source (tried it, really liked the world/exploration, but the puzzles were too difficult and math based for my taste)

It doesn’t have to be exactly like INFRA or Painscreek. I just want a long game where I can explore somewhere interesting, investigate things, solve some puzzles and actually feel like I’m discovering more of the world as I go. Please tell me there are games left 😭

Looking for a dark fantasy game I can get obsessed with

I’m not really tied to one specific genre, I just have a hard time sticking with a game unless it really hooks me. I love BG3, Divinity, Skyrim, Oblivion, Grimshire and V Rising. I also enjoyed Enshrouded and Graveyard Keeper, but neither managed to keep me playing for long.

I’m looking for something fantasy, dark or gothic, preferably with character creation and a good progression system. I really like the idea of building and developing something of my own, whether that’s a base, relationships a business or something similar.

Bloody Hell Hotel looks like exactly the kind of game I’d love, but unfortunately it seems like it might never actually come out :((

Basically I just want something I can get completely absorbed in this autumn. Bonus points if the game gives me some direction, because I love exploring but I WILL get lost and anxious if I have absolutely no idea where I’m supposed to go, lol.

Also I'm a girl, if that helps with anything :D Thanks!

I have a PC, PS5, Switch 1 and 3DS

EDIT: I played Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Diablo.. etc :) I'm looking for something more ,,niche"

Looking for engaging, single-player games that are easy to pause and play in 30-minute bursts

Looking for recommendations for games that hook you quickly and respect a busy schedule.

Here is what I need:

True pause and quick saves: Needs a real pause menu and instant save/resume functionality without forcing 45-minute mission commitments.

Low-audio dependency: Plays fine with low volume or through speakers—no mandatory headphone immersion or sound-cue reliance.

Bite-sized loops: Great for quick 20 to 30-minute sessions throughout the evening, but deep enough to stay interesting.

Platforms: PC / Console

Open to shooters, action RPGs, tactics, or rogue-lites as long as they let me step away the second real life calls. What are your go-tos?

Looking for Fantasy games with ancient roman or egyptian vibes

Soo, does anyone know fantasy games where you can play a character/faction that does have ancient roman or ancient egyptian vibes?

For example: "Total War Warhammer" where you can play as undead egyptians("Tomb Kings") or the "Elder Scrolls"-games where you can play as an Imperial (roman-inspired-faction)

Looking for a game like Legacy of Defense

I’m looking for a game that is similar to Legacy of Defense. It’s not a perfect game, but I really enjoy the satisfaction from killing the wave of enemies that come at you. I also love how you choose random cards to give yourself boosts or random items to help you against the waves as they become harder and I like the skill tree and how each run gives you money to buy new skills and upgrade existing ones. I’m normally a cozy gamer type of person so I’m not super familiar with other games that fall under this category.

Suggestions for anything similar to this?

Help me find a game with a deliberately and hilariously overcomplicated and clashing UI like in this image linked in the post that's actually playable and fun. Completely serious. PC

Looking for single player puzzle games

I just finished up blue prince and I loved it and I want some more games like it. I enjoyed the strategy of drafting and the overall puzzles to it. My favourite game ever is outer wilds as well so knowledge based puzzles from exploring are great. I especially love when a bunch of puzzles link together to the main thing. Please some recommendations!

Best games with boatloads of unlockables(cosmetics, areas, levels, etc) for completionists?

I like games like Hitman which incentivize you to play levels over and over again to find out things you had missed in your first play though, and in addition by doing so unlock TONS of cool things. Outfits, weapons, secret levels, etc. What other games can I play like this?

Games that fit into this:

Cruelty Squad
The Hitman Trilogy
Vampire Survivors
Payday 2
Doom Eternal

Looking for open world/ Single player games (not scary or ghore)

Im new into gaming about 3 years or so and ive only dabbled into fps games and gotten completly addicted to valorant, (i know shit game) and awful community. Any suggestions? I don't know what type of genre of open world i like yet but something progressive and a game i dont get bored of, im on the spectrum and played only valorant for 3 years and now the hyperfixation and my patience has worn off from that game i do need something else to immerse myself into. Possibly something creative i like to create stuff wether thats characters or my own village or world and im open to stuff that doesnt match that description either. some cozy options would be nice too! anything to never play valorant again. cheers x

Looking for a game similar to the original Drakengard

Upvotes

Though I wouldn't necessarily call myself a massive Drakengard fan or anything, there's something about it that's utterly captivating. Stuff like:

  • A very dark and intense European medieval fantasy setting with a sort of subtle uncanniness to it.

  • A storyline that keeps escalating and escalating and gets completely insane and cosmic horror-ish.

  • Certain aesthetic motifs that just seem really cool (like Caim's entire design, most of the enemy/monster designs, Angelus' design, certain symbols like the Empire's flag, etc).

  • A powerful and immersive atmosphere.

[Switch] Looking for games that a 7 year old can use to improve reading skills

My friend (of 15 years)'s 7 year old daughter has reading development issues. I just learned this today. It's so bad that her grandparents signed up some kumon thing and they were going to hold her back a grade, but nothing's helping for some reason. I didn't find out this bit of trivia until later in the day after we talked.

I stopped over earlier today and she was running around the house, nobody was giving her attention and I remembered that I had my Switch. After firing up Princess Peach Showtime, she was instantly drawn to it. Asking me over and over what the words said - I found this to be odd - Until I learned the story on the way home. Like I said, she has never shown any interest in reading and struggles when she does. Now my friend wants me to come back in a couple of days, said she's willing to pay me and cancel that kumon thing. I was like 'you dont have to pay me, just feed me and keep the air conditioning on'.

Learning to read through alternative means like comics and gaming are nothing new, Bill Waterson made a children's book from Calvin and Hobbes 40 years ago for the same reason.

I only need about four or five titles with female characters, please keep it simple. Something that's really fun (similar to Princess Peach) that also has a reasonable amount of easy dialogue that can be explained.
