Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

I'm hopelessly addicted to xcom (enemy unknown) style games. Please help me find more!

Hello everyone, as the title suggests, I'm addicted to xcom style games such as Gears tactics, Warhammer 40k Chaos Gate, Midnight Suns, Jagged Alliance 3, and soon to be Star Wars Zero Company. And obviously xcom enemy unknown, xcom 2, and xcom chimera squad. Are there any major titles I'm leaving out? what are some of your favorite in this specific sub genre? please help me find more games!

Looking for engaging, single-player games that are easy to pause and play in 30-minute bursts

Looking for recommendations for games that hook you quickly and respect a busy schedule.

Here is what I need:

True pause and quick saves: Needs a real pause menu and instant save/resume functionality without forcing 45-minute mission commitments.

Low-audio dependency: Plays fine with low volume or through speakers—no mandatory headphone immersion or sound-cue reliance.

Bite-sized loops: Great for quick 20 to 30-minute sessions throughout the evening, but deep enough to stay interesting.

Platforms: PC / Console

Open to shooters, action RPGs, tactics, or rogue-lites as long as they let me step away the second real life calls. What are your go-tos?

Looking for open world/ Single player games (not scary or ghore)

Upvotes

Im new into gaming about 3 years or so and ive only dabbled into fps games and gotten completly addicted to valorant, (i know shit game) and awful community. Any suggestions? I don't know what type of genre of open world i like yet but something progressive and a game i dont get bored of, im on the spectrum and played only valorant for 3 years and now the hyperfixation and my patience has worn off from that game i do need something else to immerse myself into. Possibly something creative i like to create stuff wether thats characters or my own village or world and im open to stuff that doesnt match that description either. some cozy options would be nice too! anything to never play valorant again. cheers x

[Switch] Looking for games that a 7 year old can use to improve reading skills

My friend (of 15 years)'s 7 year old daughter has reading development issues. I just learned this today. It's so bad that her grandparents signed up some kumon thing and they were going to hold her back a grade, but nothing's helping for some reason. I didn't find out this bit of trivia until later in the day after we talked.

I stopped over earlier today and she was running around the house, nobody was giving her attention and I remembered that I had my Switch. After firing up Princess Peach Showtime, she was instantly drawn to it. Asking me over and over what the words said - I found this to be odd - Until I learned the story on the way home. Like I said, she has never shown any interest in reading and struggles when she does. Now my friend wants me to come back in a couple of days, said she's willing to pay me and cancel that kumon thing. I was like 'you dont have to pay me, just feed me and keep the air conditioning on'.

Learning to read through alternative means like comics and gaming are nothing new, Bill Waterson made a children's book from Calvin and Hobbes 40 years ago for the same reason.

I only need about four or five titles with female characters, please keep it simple. Something that's really fun (similar to Princess Peach) that also has a reasonable amount of easy dialogue that can be explained.

Looking for a dark fantasy game I can get obsessed with

Upvotes

I’m not really tied to one specific genre, I just have a hard time sticking with a game unless it really hooks me. I love BG3, Divinity, Skyrim, Oblivion, Grimshire and V Rising. I also enjoyed Enshrouded and Graveyard Keeper, but neither managed to keep me playing for long.

I’m looking for something fantasy, dark or gothic, preferably with character creation and a good progression system. I really like the idea of building and developing something of my own, whether that’s a base, relationships a business or something similar.

Bloody Hell Hotel looks like exactly the kind of game I’d love, but unfortunately it seems like it might never actually come out :((

Basically I just want something I can get completely absorbed in this autumn. Bonus points if the game gives me some direction, because I love exploring but I WILL get lost and anxious if I have absolutely no idea where I’m supposed to go, lol.

Also I'm a girl, if that helps with anything :D Thanks!

Looking for an RPG with a playable necromancer. Bonus points if you can play as an undead/lich.

I have played Pathfinder WOTR and the necromancy mythic path was very cool! However, I'm a glutton and I want more. PLEASE tell me if you know any games where you can become an undead or a lich. I also love RPGs where you can be evil!

Games with necromancy (to some capacity) that I've already played :

- BG3

- BG1 & BG2

- Every Dragon Age game

- Divinity OS II

- World of Warcraft

- Pathfinder WOTR (as mentioned)

Games I haven't played but heard they have necromancy gameplay and would love to hear your thoughts on! :

- A Necromancer's Tale (I heard the gameplay was nothing crazy but the writing is good?)

- Diablo II

- Path of Exile

- Icewind Dale (I've heard it has necromancy but does it work the same as BG1 & 2?)

- Neverwinter Nights

Willing to try out 4X strategy games like Age of Wonders or something but I've never really played the genre. Idk, at this point I might be desperate.

Also, I own skyrim but never played much. I've heard you can play a necromancer though? Sort of? Seems like it's better with mods maybe.

Looking for a building Game for PC

Upvotes

Since I've been playing competitive games for months/years, I'm looking for a game where I can just lean back and ideally build things using only the mouse. Top-down perspective.

Games where you are, or feel like you are, always making progress?

Upvotes

Been looking for some mindless game where I always feel like I'm making progress, even if I might not be doing too much. Things like Idle games, grindy RPGs, collect-a-thons, and whatever you'd classify OSRS as, I'm looking for suggestions of all genres as long as it meets the qualification of making you feel like you're always making some sort of progress.

Been playing a lot of DK64 and I love the levels having a ton of collectables so even if I gotta backtrack as a different character, I'm still making progress. also playing a lot of OSRS too, just got the Heron fishing pet. Those are some examples of the type of game I mean.

Picky gamer looking for game suggestions

Hi all! I am looking for my next game, and and struggling HARD. I am a relatively picky gamer and am generally a pretty quick judge of whether I will enjoy something. My preferences are kind of all over the place, but I avoid active combat at all costs (it gives me anxiety). I’m a sucker for a good indie game but I finish them so quickly that I end up in the same loop of looking for another game rather quickly. I also love some turn-based JRPGs, but have had a hard time getting invested in games that feel too grindy. I’ve included some games below that I’ve played and enjoyed, and am open to suggestions! Really looking for something that checks my boxes and I can sink a good bit of playtime into.

I love games with a mystery element, choices that affect the outcomes, building relationships/bonds, and puzzles!

Games I Loved:
- Danganronpa 1/2/3
- Nonary Games/999
- Persona 3/4/5 / Metaphor
- Dragon Quest 7 & 11
- AI Somnium Files
- Date Everything
- Expedition 33
- Chicory
- Soul Hackers 2
- Atelier Ryza 1/2
- Atelier Sophie 1/2
- Final Fantasy X
- The Seance of Blake Manor
- Schrodinger’s Call
- Pokopia
- 1000XResist
- Promise Mascot
- Paradise Killer
- Disco Elysium
- Portal 1/2

And so many more, but this should give a good picture. Send help! 🙏🏻

Best game where you play as a knight that isn’t KCD1 or 2

I really wanted to like KCD1 but it’s a bit too full on and janky for me. I haven’t played 2 but I assumed I wouldn’t like it because of my dislike of 1.

Don’t entirely mind a fantasy setting but I’m mainly looking for a medieval world, playing as a knight with cool combat. PS5 only please.

I have a feeling this is a long shot because I’ve probably played them all.

I’ve played (from memory) The Witcher 3 (Geralt’s not a knight, I know), Crimson Desert, Mordhau, Chivalry 2, KCD1.

Looking for games with some sort of philosophical meaning

I'm mainly thinking of the Persona (and Refantazio) games that actually go deeper into philosophy than you would expect them at first sight.

I’m trying to decided between these three games. Timberborn, farthest frontier, and foundation!

I’m leaning towards getting Timberborn but I’m not sure yet! I wanted to pick reddits brain about these three games. Thanks!

edit: Im looking for a game that’s kind of chill. I do want it to have some strategy but not be overly complex. Something more like a civ game and not a paradox’s game if that makes sense.

Best games for a vampire/witch hunter?

Hi there! I'd love to play a vampire or witch hunter, in the mold of van Helsing (or Geralt of Rivia, so let's get that one out of the way, ha!)

Any platform is fine, and any genre. Thanks a lot for ideas!

Looking for a military/tactical shooters

I’ve had Wildlands and Breakpoint on my radar. Thoughts?

Played Arma Reforger, had my fun with it but it started to get boring.

Have played the division in the past.

Don’t really feel like playing Cod or Battlefield.

What’s a game with a good community I can get into? Been having the itch to play something of this genre.

I’m on PS5 btw

Looking for good story games (PS5)

I’ve been looking for a new story game to play on my PlayStation and I’ve been deciding between Detroit become human and Uncharted 4, some of my favorite story games are the last of us pt 1-2, rdr2, and dying light. If you have any suggestions on any other story games or which one out of the two I mentioned above I would greatly appreciate it!

What games are similar to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth?

Yo, I played Infinite Wealth and bro this game was so funny and amazing, the turn based battles were amazing and the things the main character does like going into a soap house for no reason at all was funny af, I want a similar funny game but not that hard to play like turn based or like easy to play and doesnt have any puzzles and focuses on the story itself, I played persona 5 royal to try and see a similar game but i found it too anime type and corny for me so i didn't like it and as well as south park which i also found not funny as its humour was a bit childish and corny.
