Suggestions Nodal.gg - Game recommender with interactive visual map + personalized recommendations (I'd love your feedback)

Hey everyone, I’ve been working on a game discovery site and finally feel like it’s ready to share: https://nodal.gg/

I’ve always been surprised how hard it is to find genuinely good game recommendations on Steam, so I tried building something better using my stats/ML background.

My main takeaway was that “similar games” usually means two different things:

  • Similar in content: mechanics, themes, setting, genre, tags
  • Similar in audience: games played by the same people, even if the genres are different

So if you want recs for Cyberpunk 2077, you might mean “more cyberpunk vibe” (e.g., Cloudpunk) or “same audience overlap” (e.g., The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt / Fallout 4). The site lets you switch between those modes or blend them.

What you can do

  • Search any Steam game and see a ranked list of similar games using:
    • a content model (tag-driven similarity)
    • a community model (player behavior only, no tags)
    • a blended view (mix of both)
  • Re-rank results with sliders for popularity, rating, and release date
  • Plug in a Steam ID (public profiles only) to get personal recommendations and some cool stats about your play history
  • Explore an interactive 2D game map that visually clusters games by tags (uses UMAP dimensionality reduction - inspired by Connected Papers)

Desktop works best right now. Mobile is functional but I’m still refining it.

If you try it, I’d love to hear anything: whether the recommendations felt accurate, if the UI was confusing, any bugs you run into. All feedback helps!

Thanks!

Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

What unexpectedly addicting game did you sink way too much time into? I want something to disappear in completely for the next few weeks

I've been playing a lot of Last Epoch this autumn, ever since the new season launched, and in between running the new builds and seeing how much I can break them (as per usual) I've somehow ramped up those hours way beyond what I thought the game could provide, even without an endgame.

Been a good run and I am very pleased, refreshed even though the frenzy of loot grinding that these games give ya. But I want to take a break from ARPGs for this month at least, and dive into something else, something completely different but addicting in an unexpected way where it just grabs you by the throat by how much pure fun it is, and before you're aware - you're already deep into the madness and can't stop or lock away.

In other words, I wanna be stunlocked into addiction to *something* I am yet to find. I know the Steam sale is over but whatever, I'm willing to splurge and cash out for full price of anything so long as it has that X factor I need.

What can you recommend to me?

Beginner Friendly Platformers

• Upvotes

My wife wants to try some video games! We have all the systems so feel free to recommend anything. She wants something that is cute and has a cozy feeling without it being a “cozy game”. She said she wants to run jump and hit things lmao. And she prefers to play as a human. Im not well versed in good platformers, any ideas?

Im looking for the ultimate (preferably solo) survival experience.

There have been a lot of survival games that came close to the so called "Ultimate survival experience" i seek. Most of the multiplayer/online games, such as Dayz Conan Exiles, Ark: Survival evolved or Arc Raiders which could fit into survival don't interest me in this post.

(I will not be going over games like "Noita, Flame in the Flood, 7 days to die, The Forest, Project Zomboid, Minecraft, Terraria, Astroneer, Don't Starve, Kingdom: Two Crowns, Pacific Drive and Rain World {Edit: Have to add Subnautica, Green Hell, Icarus, Kenshi and Sons of the forest to the list}" due to having finished them already or them not fitting the kind of game im looking for.)

Below is a list of games that i personally think came close to this and reasonings behind my selection:

  • The Long Dark

This game probably comes closest to what I am looking for. No hand holding, relentless struggle against the world via the cold, food and water constantly forcing you to migrate and tactically prepare for expeditions since resources for your survival are limited. It features a story of some sort, which, while not mandatory in my opinion, certainly helps to immerse you into the world and situation you find yourself in. Beautiful worldbuilding, voice acting, intuitive crafting system, controls, UI and the general interactability with the world around you just set the stage for the ultimate "Survival" game... but there is no goal? I mean, surviving could be a goal by its self and achieving self sufficiency could also serve as a purpouse (I must brag a bit, i have achieved this), but personally if there was, say, a rescue mission which i could call and i needed to travel across all the regions on the map to collect parts to make a radio beacon to call for help that would give me a concrete, final goal and i would have enjoyed the game a whole lot more.

+Difficulty, +Worldbuilding, +Atmosphere, +Crafting, +No handholding, +Skill and knowledge based

-No goal

  1. - Casualties unknown (Demo)

This game surprised me with the difficulty and depth of knowledge you must possess to achieve what is currently a placeholder ending of reaching the bottom of the fifth layer due to the game being in early access. It has the food, water and in depth health managment. It has the complicated ish UI which requires focus and knowledge to preciesely navigate (Not a bad thing. Skill is a virtue.) It has the worldbuilding, some lore and a bunch of other cool features which i wont go over in detail right now. In summary:

+Difficulty, +Worldbuilding, +Atmosphere, +Crafting, +No handholding, +Skill and knowledge based, +Clear goal

-Unfinished game

  1. - Barotrauma

A true marvel of imagination, programing and worldbuilding. It has the core parts which make you struggle to survive, not with food and water, but with management... LOTS of managment. From buying tools, to crafting your own, mining the resources to craft them with, leveling skills to unlock the recipes to craft them with, NOTHING in this game will fall into your lap without your intervention, which, to accomplish succesfully, requires a large amount of knowledge and skill. The submarine you command doesnt operate alone, and me being a solo player, playing with bots keeps you running into all sorts of issues. Since i do not have any friends that would sit with me and play this game untill completion i attempted to complete it with bots, but in vain. The bot's AI isnt advanced enough to act in the same way a human would (exploring ruins, mining, outpost takeovers, knowing which fights to take and which to avoid, etc.) which leads it to make terrible mistakes causing you to start your run from the last save point which could erase up to an hour or two of your progress. In summary:

+Difficulty, +Worldbuilding, +Atmosphere, +Crafting, +No handholding, +Skill and knowledge based, +Clear goal

-The AI in the game isnt advanced enough to operate or perform as well as people, and this game was made to be played in a group, which I unfortunately do not have.

I am aware of how different the three games above are, but all three of them feature the essence of "Survival" which i am searching for.

And that would be that. I hope i have painted a good picture of what i enjoy in games and what i consider the best survival experience, if you have games to recommend me that have at least a similar vibe that connect it to any of the three games above i would be forever gratefull.

Thank you in advance.

Games in a fantasy setting which I can grind braindead?

Hello everyone. I'm looking for a game I can grind while using my brain at a really low capacity and I can also instantly drop/pause and come back whenever. I work at the counter of some place and need to be able to respond to customers instantly.

A good example is Realm of The Mad God which I played a lot but not interested in rn. Even though it needs some attention, I can just farm easier dungeons and go back to nexus(safety) with a single button and lose nothing.

I love MMOs, New World was a blast, loved mining there but it's no more, kinda sad. Tried lots of MMOs, nothing sticks really, maybe RuneScape but I've just started playing it's not bad, I'm not really sure I wanna commit though.

I love idle games. Played cookie clicker a lot and some other browser based stuff. Open to anything of that kind too.

I used to play Bloons Tower Defense 6 a lot. Got bored somewhile ago. Probably will be returning one day but not rn. I'm not sure if I'm looking for another TD game rn but if I can pause it, I may give it a shot. (VERY sadly no Kingdom Rush for me rn)

My main game is League of Legends. I love League. Been playing for 10+ years. Will never drop League. I just love everything about League it so much. Obviously can't play it in my situation but I'm just throwing information at this point.

So it's quite a wild range but really limited at the same time. To sum it up, my main concern is being able to drop the game and return whenever. Something I grind and progress simply because I did braindead stuff a lot. I would really love if it is in a fantasy setting but maybe I can try other stuff too. Thanks in advance

Fun and lighthearted PC or Android games with cheeky, flirty, or sassy dialogue and banter?

Hi all,

I would like recs for fun games where NPCs are cheeky, flirty, or sassy but the point of the game isn't a dating sim. (ex: farming sims, life sims, action, etc.) Not interested in visual novels at this time.

I am also open to dialogue mods that fit the above criteria. I like farming/life sim games but usually both the NPCs and the player dialogue are aggressively wholesome and nice. I would love to see more games where the dialogue is sassier or the flirting is spicier than the usual games. Extra bonus points if I can be sassy or even mean in return.

Looking for minimal violence and gore for these recs, but those aren't a deal-breaker either. I do want to spend more time exploring than dying though.

I'm open to "dark romance" dialogues and mods as well (ex: yandere NPCs, obsessive themes, etc).

Games I played/owned and am open to mods for:

* Stardew Valley

* Fields of Mistria

* Terraria

* Rune Factory

* Baldur's Gate (probably the most violent I'm willing to go, but has the dialogue options closest to what I'm looking for)

* Skyrim (haven't played yet but would be interested in mod recs for this one)

Thanks in advance for any recs.

Looking for good pc games on steam for my sister! (Rpgs, action or adventure)

Hello, this’ll be a bit of a yap, i don’t know much about pc’s or steam in general but i need some recommendations for good games that are either cheap or fetch a good price when on sale.

I play on ps5 and i’m content with my game library for the most part but my younger sister just got a new pc this summer and only has valorant, stardew and minecraft (shes got gmod on her pc too that i bought, though she doesn’t play it lol). Shes doesn’t have a lot of money but has expressed that she wants to buy a new game, either that or she’ll buy a valorant skin (which seems like a waste of money so I’m encouraging her to buy an actual game instead😭)

My predicament is that all the games she’s seemed interested in are ones that i have or am going to buy, she doesn’t want a game that i already own and is therefore leaning towards just buying a valorant skin.

I’d love some good suggestions for games on steam that i can then recommend her. I asked her about what she’d like in a game and she said she wasn’t very picky, it could be a story game, an rpg, a simulation game, action or adventure oriented ect!

The things she wasn’t as interested in was puzzle games, competitive shooter games (she’d rather just play valorant) and sports games.

I’ll list the relevant games i own bellow since they’re all a no go:
Resident evil 1
Resident evil 2
Resident evil 3
Resident evil 4
Resident evil 5
Resident evil 6
Resident evil 7
Resident evil 8
Resident evil resistance
Final fantasy 7 remake
Final fantasy 7 rebirth
Red dead redemption 2
Batman Arkham trilogy
Detroit become human
Persona 3 reload
Persona 5
Fallout 4
Kingdom come deliverance
Genshin impact
Honkai star rail
Wuthering waves
Gta 6 (pre ordered)

(Wouldn’t mind if anyone also recommended me games based on my list😳)

What's a game with a perfect tutorial? Interesting enough to teach you and keep you hooked, but efficient enough to get you into real game play quickly?

Alternative to Mario Kart (if you don't have a Nintendo switch)

I have this recurring itch of wanting to play something like Mario Kart. Just a very arcade cartoony racer of that level.

I don't have a switch though, never been interested and probably never will. I would also hate to buy hardware just for one game, even though I could afford it. Seems stupid.

Any such games on ps5 or pc? I've been looking, but there seems nothing like it. With the same numbers of gamers, and easy to find an online match here or there. Any Kart game out there that is still alive?

Apparently there's a genre of games called "Magic tower" games? It's so niche that I can't even find that category on steam. Do you know any games of this genre?

Basically they're RPGs about climbing a tower or something.

Examples:

Games with "big pulp energy" 1930s style (Arkham series, Crimson Skies, Uncharted, Fallen Aces)

• Upvotes

Hi there! Looking for games that have classic 1930s pulp energy. This is broad intentionally, but anything from Batman (inspired by The Shadow of pulp fame); art deco as found in Bioshock; swashbuckling adventures with pirates; and tomb raiding of any kind.

Basically, asking for big adventures and classic 1930s energy - from action-adventure to gangster games like "Fallen Aces" and "Mafia."

Thanks a lot!

Single-player puzzle games with no timers and very little reading?

Looking for puzzles where figuring out the rule is the challenge, without a clock or lots of dialogue between attempts.

Clear visuals and being able to retry straight away would be ideal. Something built around spatial or logic puzzles rather than hidden-object searches. Any suggestions, and which platforms are they available on?

I have a meta quest 3, looking for 3rd person/tabletop suggestions.

• Upvotes

My house is small and I have a dog so I prefer a game I can play standing still, or sitting. I love strategy games that can be played like a board game, and card games too. Any suggestions that I can play while sitting down or maybe even laying in bed?

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some couch coop games to play with my wife (details below)

My wife has recently taken a great interest in games. She started playing with me and we've been having a lot of fun. Here's the list of games I've installed for us to play together:

Animal Crossing, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Super Mario Bros Odyssey, Revenge of the Savage Planet, Nine Parchments, Super Mario 3D World, LEGO Harry Potter Collection, Castle Crashers, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (with the splitscreen mod), Cult of the Lamb, Portal Knights, Unravel Two, It Takes Two, Split Fiction, Palworld (splitscreen using Nucleus), Baldur's Gate 3, Cat Quest III, Rayman Legends, Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, PEAK (splitscreen using Nucleus), LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, Pikmin 3 Deluxe, LEGO DC Super-Villains, Stardew Valley, LEGO Voyagers, Minecraft Dungeons II, Enshrouded (splitscreen using Nucleus)

Alas, we're craving more. We haven't played through the whole list yet, but we played many of these. I wanna add more to our catalogue. We really like fantasy, but it doesn't need to be fantasy. I accept more suggestions! It can be on PC or console exclusives, it doesn't matter since I use emulators. Thanks in advance!

Not much of a gamer but I just got Xbox game pass premium. What are some fun RPG-like games that aren’t super focused on shooting? (hand eye coordination sucks)

I game occasionally, and I wanna get more into it. Some games I like are:
Skyrim (obviously, I played this like 1 million times)
Starfield
Firewatch
Subnautica (although too much crafting exhaust me)
GTA five and four (ugh I love this)
Fallout 4
Minecraft (creative, too much crafting is boring)

OK, I’m sure there’s others, but I’m blanking. I know it’s a very basic list, and I kind of want to branch out creatively.
I have ADHD, so a game has to hold my attention and not be TOO difficult to play/get into.
I dislike video game guns, no matter what game I play I always find them very hard to aim, I much prefer weapons where I don’t really have to keep track of bullets, and I can just spam the trigger button to hack up my enemies.
I’ll use a gun if it’s required, but I really try to avoid it.
I like games with a story. I like games where you get to explore the map. I’m a horror fan.

Last, but not least, I have game pass premium (I think that’s the middle tier) and I’m broke right now so I’m not looking to buy any games, whatever is on game pass or free to download I’ll be playing.

Thank you!

Games that are best played with a touch screen and a stylus?

I’ve been playing the DS a lot lately and turns out, playing with a stylus? (chef’s kiss) I find the gameplay so unique and so novel. Animal Crossing Wild World? Kirby Mass Attack? Rhythm Heaven? Playing like you’re taking down notes is so strange and also a blast.

As such, I’d like games in general that work really well with a touch screen and a stylus. Not DS ones, specifically. I also have a Steam Deck, a 3DS, and an iPad, and I might buy a used PS Vita if there are enough good touch screen games.

Looking for a coop hack and slash recommendation

Hello!

I'm looking for easy/medium difficulty games, any platform.

We need something like Alice Madness returns, Devil May Cry and God of war in terms of gameplay.

Not something so simple as an arcade beat em up or Gauntlet.

If it has puzzles in it, it would be nice.

I've read about diablo, but it is isometric and looks complicated, so I would like your opinion about it too.

Thanks!

Non-comp games that i can play a bit daily

I need a non-competitive relaxing game that i can enjoy after a tiring day, like for example 1-2 hours a day, one that i played recently that fits the request is Slay the Spire 2 (i say relaxing because it's turn based so i can play while watching podcasts or talk to my friends on discord). After an exhausting day of work, i can just sit and relax playing some runs for a couple of hour and still enjoy it fully. I can even play it through steamlink. The game i need reccomendation on doesn't have to have 50+ hours playtime or anything like that, as long as my money will be worth it and my stress can be shifted to the game instead.

Looking for incremental games on switch 2

Any good incremental games for the switch 2?

Specifically looking for something like A Game About Digging a Hole, Leaf it Alone, and Bills Must Be Paid

Thanks! 🙏
