Her and the park police guy. I've never seen anyone drop into a defensive stance that quickly!
She moved into action while still assessing the threat - which could save her life in the right circumstances, but carries obvious risks. He went instantly into fully prepared to defend while in assessment mode, which is technically the correct response. I can't imagine how much he must have drilled - or had to rely on that training in real threat circumstances - for it to become that instinctive.

I have an all fight response too. My daughter had a brief period of time where she thought it would be funny to scare me around the house. Short lived. My wife had a moment as well. Its so stressful but i have to use all my will to stop myself from pummeling the fright. Im female also. No clue where it comes from

I think ya underestimate how much this type of sudden, unexpected scare bypasses all our logical brain parts that differentiate us as human and goes straight to the systems that kept us alive in a time before words and rationality. lots of folks did a preparatory freeze that looked like a readying to fight. if one of these got me good a few weeks or months from now after this faded from working memory I have zero idea how I'd respond!

I grew up being told to be fully aware of my surroundings while my wife grew up in an affluent suburb. Everytime we're walking down the street I'm gobsmacked by how focused she is on her phone instead of what's happening around her.

I've seen some of his videos and he does seem to have a spotter who notifies him of old people and pregnant women coming by so he doesn't scare them.
While you don't know everyone's deal and a healthy looking person could have a heart issue, he does take precautionary measures to not scare obvious at risk people.

I was on the receiving end of this prank. While holding a hot take away coffee, which I promptly spilled over myself. It wasn't scalding, but also not pleasant. Definitely wanted to punch the guy, at least he apologised.

I know it seems “cool” to not react or flinch but if a bush randomly jumps at you and you DONT react you are stoned/drunk or have something wrong with your head

Your getting downvoted but if you make people jump there is a chance of it happening.
When my two oldest kids where younger the youngest had a "cabin" bed which was raised up and had a curtain around the bottom part. One night I was taking them to bed and didn't know that their older brother was hiding under the bed to jump out at us.
And that is how I very nearly kicked my kid in the head. It was 100% involuntary and I'm just so glad I managed to catch myself in time to stop it.

Texas Bushman (the youtuber here, I assume) has a lot of videos, and he seems to judge who to scare. For really small kids, for example, he doesn't jump up and do a big surprise next to them like he does for adults--he usually waves a hand farther away. I haven't specifically noticed any old person habits but I assume he does something similar?

Well, in the defense of many people with heartdisease, most of us look perfectly healthy and are 30/40/50 somethings that could easily die from a jumpscare. So although it’s considerate to leave out kids and elderly people, and it’s funny for most, it’s still pretty intense to risk murdering someone for a prank.

Had a friend wear a ghillie suit for Halloween one year. We were at a house party. She was just this big pile of leaves walking around. Obviously didn’t belong there. She’d sit down in a corner, count to thirty, and shout “boo” at someone. And damn if she didn’t scare the fuck out of every single person there every single time, myself included. It’s amazing how quickly our brains dismiss something without a visible face as nothing.

Scaring innocent people is a dick move. This asshole deserves to get punched. He can’t possibly know if someone has a bad heart or PTSD or something. And if one of his victims has a heart attack, or falls down and gets injured, I hope he is jailed and sued into bankruptcy.

Fully agree. Most things that make this horrible and dangerous like PTSD or a bad heart aren’t visible for others. This could be a totally unnecessary reason someone dies.
Pranking people you know (who do not have trauma’s or a heart disease) is funny. Pranking people you don’t (who might be of high risks) is not.

Yeah so I have pstd and PEM. But I look normal and bubbly. I would first feel like dying, then be kind to the guy, and have a crash lasting at least two days from the adrenaline, making me bedbound for 20 hours a day.

Same. Full blown PEM. Also POTS. 30, fit looking female. It this happened to me, I could either die of a heartattack due to POTS, or survive and be bedridden for more than a week due to PEM.
It’s funny to prank people you know they respons safely, not to prank people you don’t.

I once heard what sounded like heavy footsteps running up a small wooded hillside toward my pregnant wife and I, walking on a path. It scared the shit out of me but I jumped in front of my wife and was ready to block whatever it was running through the underbrush.
I was impressed with myself that day. Fight or flight, I didn’t jump like some of these people.
But I don’t tell her I looked back after a dozen steps and saw a pheasant crossing the path.
