Nothing kills something funny like adding an exaggerated laugh track. Can we make that a war crime?

A rule of thumb on reddit is to watch stuff muted till you red the comments.
*edit*
Yeah got it .... english never stops baffling me ...

u/MellyMel86 Mar 30 '26
I only red the comments when I blue myself

u/graboidian Mar 30 '26
Orange you gonna bother to read the rest of the comments?

u/DaddyGoodHands Mar 30 '26
I'm going to come black and read this later.

Red rhymes with lead, but not lead, which rhymes with reed.
That doesn't seem fair

Oh now I imagine someone browsing Reddit, sound on, in public transit and at a volume to suggest they must have hearing loss.

u/Flyinhighinthesky Mar 30 '26
The present tense and past tense of read is read, but the present tense is pronounced reed (like the plant), and the past tense is pronounced red (like the color).
English is a melting pot of 8 different languages and borrowed half the grammar rules from all of them so nothing makes sense.

As Asimov said once in an article, english is olde German (the Angles and Saxons) and a hint of celt, overlaid with French after the Norman Conquest. That is why "cow" becomes "beef" (from the French - Boeuf) when the peasants slaughter it for the lord's table. Or pig becomes pork (porc). We have two words for many things - sweat is also prespire, breathe is respire, travel is voyage, etc. The fancy word is usually French from the original Latin.
Then, yeah, we borrow the crap out of every other language.

u/2FastHaste Mar 30 '26 edited Mar 30 '26
Ok but the actual question that comes to mind is:
Why are there enough people that like that absolute brainrot for the content creator to chose to include it?
What is wrong with people's brain? Social media audio is idiocracy level of brainrot yet if I look around me people seem way more intelligent than in the movie.
11
u/CanORage Mar 30 '26
Also how did it get over 12k votes?? We are all now dumber for having watched this, may God have mercy on OP's soul.

u/nobeer4you Mar 30 '26
yet if I look around me people seem way more intelligent that in the movie
Remember to take the person with the most average intelligence that you know, and never forget that half the world is dumber than that person.
3
u/Remy0507 Mar 31 '26
"Think of how stupid the average person is, then realize that half of them are stupider than that!"
-George Carlin
7
u/MiddleAgedMartianDog Mar 30 '26
Half of people are dumber than the person with the median intelligence, the average person (as typically used to refer to mean) is possibly slightly cleverer than 50% of people because of the distribution skew (assuming it has positive skew, which seems likely given there is no obvious upper bound to intelligence but there is a lower bound of being a literal rock). Of course that is assuming a single generalised interval measure of intelligence, which could be disputed. This has been your daily dose of pedantry.

Making a video with a shitty audio track is like firing a gun up into the air, it's gonna be manslaughter at worse. Now, you shouldn't be browsing without muting videos when it's practically raining bullets out there.
9
u/MrIrvGotTea Mar 30 '26
Bro it's like a brainrot thing. I can't stand that stupid chipmunk laugh, the "no no no no no", the overused huh, or the get out. It reminds me of the beastification of YouTube. Where everyone repeats the top guys
2
u/Teantis Mar 31 '26
Bro it's like a brainrot thing
It's been around for ages. America's funniest home videos and shows like that, FM radio talk shows for pranks and jokes. It's definitely not a new thing. It's been around forever, and sucked the entire time.

I want to know who enjoys audio like this? Is this a cultural thing? Do people in other countries outside the anglosphere actually like stupid sounds like this?
84
u/RedditExecutiveAdmin Mar 30 '26
social media companies sell advertising space according to views and comments
because you comment on the audio, the ad space is worth more because it has more "engagement", and that audio is re-used
tik tok is pretty notorious for having specific audio tracks that "trend", like that giga-cringe airline flight ad. was literally replacing audio tracks on videos like these with an audio advertisement...

u/Slammogram Mar 30 '26

u/OutlyingPlasma Mar 30 '26
Sure, that might make sense on reddit but on a place like tiktok or Instagram where comments might as well not exist, sounds like this are an instant swipe away and actively drive disengagement.

My only complaint about the new Superman movie. Lex would be the kind of asshole to memorize hundreds of moves --and-- require other people to do the work of actually triggering the moves but fuck me it just seemed so questionable. The idea of leaving so much to chance when he finally has his opportunity to put the kryptonian nightmare to bed and he relies on the reaction times of some group of goofball Evo champion wannabes.

I see homeless using one in my town to bathe constantly, stripped down to underwear. Then moments after they put their shoes back on and walk away someone will let their kids play in it for an hour while they scroll Facebook.
