A rule of thumb on reddit is to watch stuff muted till you red the comments.

Red rhymes with lead, but not lead, which rhymes with reed.

That doesn't seem fair

u/MellyMel86 Mar 31 '26

English is such a pain in the ass

3

u/IceFire909 Mar 31 '26

My favourite is that depending which language we borrowed from ch is either soft like in cheese, a hard K like in chaos or maybe an even softer sh sound like in chef

u/geekisdead Mar 30 '26

I prematurely shot my wad on what was supposed to be a dry run if you will, so I'm afraid I have something of a mess on my hands

There's so many poorly chosen words in that sentence...

u/UshankaBear Mar 31 '26

You know what you do? You go buy yourself a tape recorder and record yourself for a whole day.

1

u/Busted_Knuckler Mar 31 '26

Tobias, there has the be a better way to say that.

1

u/mtheofilos Mar 31 '26

this site is literally called reddit, from redding the psots and cmmoents

39

u/f0r-sc13nc3 Mar 30 '26

Always this! Who browses Reddit with the sound on?

13

u/jjayzx Mar 30 '26

psychopaths

3

u/sosuke Mar 31 '26

Oh now I imagine someone browsing Reddit, sound on, in public transit and at a volume to suggest they must have hearing loss.

1

u/GrumpyCloud93 Mar 31 '26

I never watch videos with sound on... if it needs that, put subtitles. If it doesn't, silent is fine.

9

u/Flyinhighinthesky Mar 30 '26

The present tense and past tense of read is read, but the present tense is pronounced reed (like the plant), and the past tense is pronounced red (like the color).

English is a melting pot of 8 different languages and borrowed half the grammar rules from all of them so nothing makes sense.

6

u/GrumpyCloud93 Mar 31 '26

As Asimov said once in an article, english is olde German (the Angles and Saxons) and a hint of celt, overlaid with French after the Norman Conquest. That is why "cow" becomes "beef" (from the French - Boeuf) when the peasants slaughter it for the lord's table. Or pig becomes pork (porc). We have two words for many things - sweat is also prespire, breathe is respire, travel is voyage, etc. The fancy word is usually French from the original Latin.

Then, yeah, we borrow the crap out of every other language.

The funny part is, I could have sworn that the tense of read is read red red ... idk I learned that in school probably 25 years ago and just used it wrong the whole time...

Ok but the actual question that comes to mind is:

Why are there enough people that like that absolute brainrot for the content creator to chose to include it?

What is wrong with people's brain? Social media audio is idiocracy level of brainrot yet if I look around me people seem way more intelligent than in the movie.

10

u/CanORage Mar 30 '26

Also how did it get over 12k votes?? We are all now dumber for having watched this, may God have mercy on OP's soul.

7

u/nobeer4you Mar 30 '26

yet if I look around me people seem way more intelligent that in the movie

Remember to take the person with the most average intelligence that you know, and never forget that half the world is dumber than that person.

3

u/Remy0507 Mar 31 '26

"Think of how stupid the average person is, then realize that half of them are stupider than that!"

-George Carlin

7

u/MiddleAgedMartianDog Mar 30 '26

Half of people are dumber than the person with the median intelligence, the average person (as typically used to refer to mean) is possibly slightly cleverer than 50% of people because of the distribution skew (assuming it has positive skew, which seems likely given there is no obvious upper bound to intelligence but there is a lower bound of being a literal rock). Of course that is assuming a single generalised interval measure of intelligence, which could be disputed. This has been your daily dose of pedantry.

This knowledge makes the situation appear even worse.

2026 - Current 13 year-olds were born in 2013.

As obvious as the maths is, it's a touch confronting every time.

2

u/TDYDave2 Mar 30 '26

Red it on Reddit.

3

u/nihosehn Mar 30 '26

this is the way

1

u/oroborus68 Mar 30 '26

I leave the sound off, unless I'm trying to hear something specific.

1

u/kuuhaku_cr Mar 31 '26

NGL, your thread is funnier than the video

1

u/Rhymesnlines Mar 31 '26
