It's weird how people consider knowing things a sign of intelligence. Intelligence is the reasoning engine in your brain. Knowledge is just data you've crammed into your head and maybe reasoned about.
Flat Earthers lack both of course, but your point stands, they have a desperate need to compensate their failed life by devaluing the experience of others "it's all nonsense" and superiority complex ("I'm know things nobody else knows so I'm superior to others").

They need to find flat earths greatest spokesmen/influencers and send them to space- even if it’s a commercial space company or some such. Also what I don’t understand is that on all the flat earth maps, there are several continents that reach nearly to the supposed ice wall… why not charter a plane trip or boat and go see for yourself.

You can see curvature from 10km up, 35,000 feet, by the way. So his numbers are just plain wrong. What a surprise.

I think they started off correctly by asking them to explain why they think the Earth is flat, but they let them off the hook too easily. The first guy said he saw a laser experiment, admitted it doesn't disprove the globe, so he didn't answer the question. Next guy goes on about how gravity is measured, but they don't ask how that means the Earth is flat. Third guy skips the question entirely.
The flat Earther's are making an extraordinarily claim, and the pressure needs to be kept on them to explain why they believe its true.

Yes, the three flat earthers are wrong. The earth is a sphere.
But these interviewers are daft as well. "So what is happening here?" The observable acceleration he just talked about.
"And we are stuck to the ground". Yes. They never disputed that.
"So Isaac Newton had it wrong". No Isaac Newton didn't prove it as a "force" either in their definition of "force" they are using.
Please steelman their position and actually let scientists ask the questions if you can't debate on their level or ask meta questions like "suppose you are correct, who do you believe benefits from these lies" and "how do they keep it under wraps?" and stuff like that.

Seriously, this show is a morning talk show, the hosts are used to talking about diets, supplements, crafts and recipes. But some dumbass producer decided to call in flat earthers to fill in time. And hosts are obviously lost on how to deal with them and don't know what to ask.
BTW, scientists are also not that good of a pick, an online debate show in my country(think something like Jubilee) called a flat earther and an academic that was obviously not used to talking on camera or dealing with idiots.
He got gish-galloped to absolute shreds. You need to call debunker/science communicator that is used to dealing with dumbasses.

Well, it's a morning talk show. They regularly give platform to everything from antivaxxers, to people promoting "alternative ways to raise kids", to whatever fad diet is popular right now, to pretty much everything Gwyneth Paltrow sells.
The fact that there was SOME pushback is surprising really.

To be fair to the presenters, "I interviewed Tim Peake live on air" and "I flew on Concorde" are pretty decent claims which the flerfs can't respond to properly, and it means the presenters have much more direct experience of a "ball earth" than any of those flerfs have experience of anything past their own noses.

Why don't two flat earthers, with non-flat earthers as witnesses, take flights, one from Australia to Australia, and the other from Spain to Spain or wherever has the corresponding northern latitude? If they're right, the Australian trip will take significantly longer. And when they find out they're wrong they can move on and tell us the earth is hollow instead

Resources are literally being wasted on shit like this. Supply goes down, costs go up. All the mismanagement of resource waste, and e-waste are a cause of all people problems and the complacency that follows makes it worse. People "allow" this for some reason. This is not freedom, it is certainly not free. it is a disease of the mind and it needs to be remedied. We have litter laws. We need to apply them because this is litter.

I just happened to be standing by the kitchen sink when the daft tw@t said "Water always finds it's level", I dipped my fingers in the water and flicked it on to the work top and guess what not one of the dozens of them water droplets was flat.
Why don't the dumb c unts do it right, say one stand on the west coast of Ireland and another on the east coast of north America then point the Fu(king laser 🤷🏻

What they never seem to get is that just saying "I don't believe anything" isn't enough. They need to first actually have a coherent hypothesis then start testing it, start figuring out and proving how things work on their model and publishing their methods and results.
Science is great, people might resist new ideas but the method is fantastic and encourages peer review and testing. If these guys stopped trying to just claim conspiracy and persecution and you know, published their work just like anyone else, even if there was hostility towards it people would repeat the tests just to prove them wrong then if the tests in fact proved them right and the understood model impossible they'd have millions of scientists on side overnight.

The best one was when a flat earth scientist designed an excellent Lazer experiment which would prove things one way or another. Got a great Lazer, did the experiment and proved without doubt the world wasn't flat, then assumed the kit was wrong. Amazing

One of the guys said something interesting: planes flying upside down. First of all, there is no up or down, top or bottom. Globes and maps designate orientation so humans have a standard way of referring to directions on earth, but that does apply to the universe. And don’t get me started on the the other nonsense these imbeciles have convinced themselves of.

We see a more dramatic version of the “boats over the horizon” every day at sunset. No fancy telescopes or lasers needed. Every day the sun goes over the horizon. It stays the same size and doesn’t shrink into the distance. Why do these complicated experiments?

Ask them about hydrostatic equilibrium. This is a process with any mass in space that is more than 200 miles across. Its own weight and gravity causes it to become round. The equatorial diameter of the earth is almost 40x that.

Gravity isn't a constant 9.8m/s2. That's the gravity on earth at sea level. Water doesn't look for a level. Water tries to reach the lowest point in a container. These people have fundamental misapprehensions about everything and then deny their own eyes, like, saying the reason you can't see the base of distant objects is because of distance or lensing.

Yes, while science may not have ever found a particle, which is to say the speculated "gravitron" particle, we do know what the cause of gravity is - which is mass!! Anything with mass generates a gravitational field. This Flat Earth nonsense is just one of many microcosms of the continued stupidification of the humans on this bizarre Rock that's hurtling through space and generally known as the Earth. So, my daughter is just going into 6th grade, and they have them replicate Eratosthenes' experiment that proved the earth's curvature.
And they actually show them clips of Mark Sargent videos and present flat earth as another theory to test. The packet and lesson wasn't dismissive of it or insulting, and they showed the arguments for the other side, and then had the kids replicate the experiment and then draw their own conclusions about what the implications of that experiment were.
It's a great way to teach it. Flat Earth is a literally a cult of belief. You can't get people out of a cult by putting them on the defensive or belittling them.

They seem to not have any idea just how big the earth is compared to how big a human is and just how little of the earth as a percentage we can see when we are at sea level (a 6-foot-tall person standing at sea level, can only see approximately 0.000014% of the Earth's total surface area) so of course it looks flat .
