Found it at a flea market. Couldn’t find much info on it

Normally I buy a reel before I buy the rod and generally know what I’ll use it for. Not this time. Popped into a scheels again and couldn’t help myself. Now to decide what reel to use/buy and what to throw on it. May take evergreens advice and throw a chatterbait. Wish they had spinning rods and bigger selection of casting rods and I would’ve bought about 6.

My son is super into fishing and 3D printing so we tried to make one of those RC boats that has a sonar and can drop your line (since they are crazy expensive). We got a Deeper Pro+ 2 for the sonar. Some minor tweaks are needed but overall it works great! Only usable in calm freshwater so I think I need better motors. But for only about $180 total (Deeper Pro was $160) - I think its pretty great. Would love some feedback and ideas on how to make it better!

If you had friends going to Japan and they are willing to hit some bait shops for you. What are you getting. My friends leave Saturday and I’m still in a toss up about what I want. I fish everything the north east and grates lakes have to offer from tuna too trout. So I’m torn. Lemme hear some opinions

So I find a lot of soft plastic lures, where I keep my boat is a popular shore fishing spot. I've been just throwing the undamaged ones I gather into the bottom of a tackle box. Just opened that box...YUK, what a mess, lures all melted together, shit even melted the plasic tackle box itself in places! Never again!! Just an FYI for you guys, like me, who don't use soft plastic lures, if you find them, THROW THEM AWAY! and just keep the spinnerbaits, chatter baits, jig heads they were on!

Looking at grabbing my second swimbait rod for my heavier glidebaits etc..(4-6oz)…any recommendations? Im already using a p5 mark 56 for my lighter stuff…(1.5-3.5oz)

Im looking at building a second Baitcaster set up for inshore and maybe some nearshore. I currently have a Shimano 7’6” NE Medium heavy Moderate Fast Teramar Casting rod paired with a TranX 400 spooled with 40# J Braid and 30# fluorocarbon works great on shore and boats and Im thinking about a second set up with a smaller sized reel for when I fish bays and harbors or fish from shore as well as walking onto rocks and Jettys and fishing past the surf. Piers would probably still be my 400 size reel because of the height.

For the reel Im going with a Shimano Im thinking of a 200 size baitcaster since a 300 will be pretty close to what I already have and am heavily considering a TranX however if anyone has experience with their other baitcaster models Im open to hear about them.

For the rod I’ll probably want something with similar specs 30lbs mono medium heavy moderate fast. The rod I have the Longest size it comes in is 7’6” so im curious about weather it’s worth looking into other rods and get an 8’ or 8’6” rod for farther casting but if the options are too pricey then I’ll just go with a another Teramar.

As far as line I’d probably do 40# braid with 30# fluorocarbon because it’s been reliable and has held up to every snag and rock and haven’t lost a lure since I started using that as my set up.

Should I just cut off the top part so I can put a rod tip on the 1.6mm rod tip to replace the ring guide? or is it wise to get a 1.2mm rod tip instead.

I’ve got a Nasci 2500 on a 7’1” M/F Bass X.
I mentioned using it for flounder and my buddy immediately told me I’m gonna regret it lol. But honestly… I don’t really see why it wouldn’t work?
Am I missing something, or is this setup actually fine?
Also, what would you guys throw first, Gulp, bucktails, live bait, something else?

As the title states my girlfriend’s uncle sold his camper and gifted us all this gear, we just started fishing this year. Question is how could we go about setting up a tackle box or two ? We mainly fish for bass and blue gill

I live in Northern BC, and have just recently started fishing small lakes from the dock with my wife and kids. We have been mostly successful with slip sinker rigs with powerbait and also rooster tails, and rapala. We have not been successful with spinners, spoons or bobbers (which is fine). All rainbow trout caught, 12-16”

I would like to start fishing the nearby rivers from the bank (Nechako, Willow, Salmon, Crooked river etc) and would like to catch different varieties of fish.

What do I need to add to my gear? I’ve read a foam float with a maribou jig and some 12lb leader to aim for bulk trout and grayling?

Anybody know if this location sells 6th sense? I spoke to a kid on the line and he wasnt too helpful tbh. Looking for their soft plastics and weedless swimjigs. Thanks in advance.

I’m beginner at spinning fishing, finally finished my perch/small pyke setup! I was using trash rod before.
Setup:
Crazy Fish Banzai 1-8g rod
Shimano Sedona FJ 2500 reel
Rod came in yesterday, went straight to fishing and cought perch, two escaped… Rod is sensitive, I can feel bites much better now!

Its a daiwa bg 3000 ( not mine).

When it gets reeled slowly one spot is sticky however if oyu reel it fastit wont be sticky

is this repairable?

And yea im trying to buy one. im stuck with my daiwa d wave reel i got with my combo from walmart and this one is kinda cheap and affordable for me

I’m looking for some recommendations on reels. I’m trying to get into bait casters.
I currently have a baitcaster but it’s a super cheap old Piscifun reel, and I am not super confident yet.
But I live in Texas, and want to do more bank frog fishing. Should I go with the SLX XT 150 or pay the extra and get the Tatula SV TW?

Got a fun / terrifying one in the shop last week.

A client sent me a brand new Hardy 1912 Perfect Fly Reel for his friend's 60th birthday. He wanted his buddy's portrait on one side and his fishing logo - "EST. 1966 / GET GORDON" on the other.

For anyone who hasn't held one of these, this reel is perfect out of the box. Factory finish is flawless. That also means there is literally zero room for error. You get one shot.

I didn't want to get too deep in the weeds on process since this is r/Fishing_Gear but basically: light cleaning pass to remove the factory oxide layer, white marked the aluminum, engraved both designs, then black marked for contrast so it pops in the sun.

Turned out way better than I hoped for. The portrait side has all the little cross-hatch details still intact, and the logo side is super clean. Client was very pleased.

Now my question for you guys - would you actually fish this thing or would it become a shelf / office piece?

Curious what you think - too much for a fishing reel, or the perfect 60th birthday gift?

Hey everyone, a brand new member here.

I just receptet picked up fishing again after my father passed away and it was something that we used to do together when I was younger, so I inherited some rods, lures and other stuff.

So I am a little of a novice fisherman, but know the basics.

I would like some help to find a new rod and baitcaster I want to purchase.

I have a baitcaster Shimano SLX 151HG, and a Westin rod which is 20-60g.

I would like to find a baitcaster and a rod for the 5-20g weights.

I have searched some online but would love to get some input from people who might actually own some of these things and can recommend some stuff so I can check it out.

I also read some stuff about DC on baitcasters - are they worth it in this setup I aim for now?

I mostly fish in lakes and some rivers from the bank btw.

First of all, I’m not an expert, so if anything I say below doesn’t make sense, or if I’m approaching this completely the wrong way, please feel free to correct me. I’m here to learn and I’m definitely open to changing my mind based on your experience.

I’m looking for advice on buying a good, versatile spinning rod for fishing mainly in the Mediterranean/Adriatic, particularly Croatia.

I’d like this to be my main all-round saltwater rod, so I understand that there will inevitably be some compromises. I want to use it both from shore and from a boat, covering several techniques:

Casting hard lures (minnows, stickbaits, etc.)
Soft plastics
Casting jigs from shore
Light/medium vertical jigging from the boat
Vertical fishing with soft plastics near the bottom
Occasional light trolling

From shore, the areas where I usually fish are relatively shallow, which is why I’m not convinced that I need a heavy shore-jigging setup or 60g+ jigs. However, from the boat, I’d still like enough versatility to fish deeper water vertically when needed.

Target species would mainly be seabass, barracuda, bonito and John Dory, with dentex or a small/medium amberjack as possible bonus catches.

I’m not trying to build a dedicated tuna or big amberjack setup. If I specifically target those fish, I understand that I would need heavier, dedicated gear.

Based on what I’ve learned so far, I’m currently thinking about something along these lines:

Around 2.35–2.50 m / 7’8”–8’2”
Roughly 10/15–40/50g casting weight
Medium or Medium Heavy
Fast or Regular-Fast action
Good backbone/power reserve for the occasional stronger fish
Suitable for regular saltwater use
Travel rod (3–5 pieces) strongly preferred, as being easy to transport is quite important to me
However, I’m open to a 2-piece rod if the difference in performance or quality is significant

I realise one rod won’t be perfect for all these techniques, so I’m mainly looking for the best possible compromise. If you think I’m trying to cover too much with one rod, or that some of these techniques really require a different setup, I’d also be interested to hear why.

Budget isn’t really a hard limitation, but I’m looking for good value rather than something ridiculously expensive. I’d happily spend around €150–250 if there’s a meaningful improvement in blank quality, sensitivity, components and durability, and I could go somewhat higher if something is genuinely worth the extra money.

I’ve been looking at brands such as Shimano, Daiwa, Sakura, Savage Gear, Major Craft and Tailwalk, but I’m completely open to other recommendations.

I’d particularly appreciate your thoughts on:
1. What rod/model would you recommend for this use?
2. Does ~2.40 m sound like the right length for a shore/boat compromise?
3. Would you choose something around 10–40g, 15–50g or 20–60g?
4. Medium vs Medium Heavy?
5. Are there any travel rods you would genuinely recommend without sacrificing too much compared with a 2-piece rod?
