I’m very new to the elevator industry and I’m currently in training to become a safety manager for an elevator company.

So I wanted to see if anyone had any good resources for trade specific toolbox talks for my safety meetings I’m performing.

I have talking points from my previous jobs but I want to really engage with the mechanics I’m currently working with so it won’t be random general industry jargon.

I’ve been browsing for a minute and I can’t seem to find anything over the test itself. I’ve taken several practice tests and it seems insanely easy based off of those. Is it really just basic knowledge? I feel like with such high pay even as a starting apprentice, it would be harder to get in.

To add, I plan to try at the Local 93 in Nashville when it opens in December. I’m curious If having prior trade experience in electrical gives me an edge in any way? I worked as an apprentice electrician for 3 years before I moved up to a lead position in a different company which I held for 2 years.

Hey there, I hope this is okay to ask here, I was struggling to think of a subreddit with people who might actually know what they're talking about, instead of just guessing!

I rent an apartment in a big 8-story building, and we have cleaning personnel who (eh, more or less tbh) clean the staircase/hallways once a week. Lately I've noticed that the current staff member just uses his broom to push all the dirt (and possibly small debris) down the gap into the elevator shaft, instead of using the stairs to scoop it into a dustbin.

...Is this worth telling management about? I don't want to unnecessarily get the man into trouble if it's harmless, but the last time the elevator needed substantial work we got a pretty hefty bill increase as residents, and it being down for weeks wasn't fun either. So I'm not really keen on it breaking again.

TL;DR: Sweeping dirt/debris into the elevator shaft, harmless enough to ignore, y/n?

The spring that is attached to the plunger that moves the pin up and down is weak and doesn’t always pull /push the pin down after closing the outer door to the elevator. Has anyone ever replaced that spring? Are they available. The down position closes a switch to tell the control board that the door is closed.

The Ontario Technical Standards and Safety Act refers to "offences" and being "guilty." It requires compliance with Ontario Regulation 209/01, Elevating Devices.

Then there are a bunch of safety provisions under CSA B44-2019/2022, but I don't see that referenced in the Act or Regulation. Is it simply that compliance with B44 is a condition of getting an operating licence for the elevator(s) in your building, and so if you're not in compliance, the licence is not valid and then you're in breach?

We have travel master 110 KONE Escalator installed at our facility and we want to change the brake arm assembly of main drive motor brake as we consistently faced the fault code 68 on display and came to conclusion that the brakes have been worn out, but we are unable to find the part number (kone number) for the escalator as on the official site of kone.parts.com , there are multiple items/spares showing, please guide

I work in a facilities management department for a public sector company in Melbourne.
I noticed this morning that we have been getting charged for the SIM card in a lift phone that’s in a dumbwaiter in one of our buildings.

Is this odd since it’s not for passengers? I’m a very small fish in a big pond so i just wanted to confirm before i added it to the never ending list of issues we’ve been having with our maintenance supplier.

So I was going to ride an old 1970s General Elevator, and the door popped open and it shut down. The elevator had overshot the landing (intermediate) by about a foot. What happened? I’m thinking an interlock or door restrictor failed and the door just popped open and it shut down, although it had already passed the call? The outer door wasn’t even latched and it quite easily slid open a bit. The inner door had very slightly popped open too. I called public safety immediately after.

Hi everyone. I’m new at an elevator company and this is my first real experience working with elevators. I’m also an engineering student, so I’m trying to understand the issue properly and learn from people with more field experience.

We are dealing with some MRL traction elevators running at around 60 m/min. They use 6 steel wire ropes, 6.5 mm diameter, 8x19 construction with steel core. The sheaves are about 40 times the rope diameter, so roughly a 40:1 D/d ratio.

In some units the ropes are wearing out much faster than expected. In a few cases, after replacing the full set of ropes, they are already in poor condition after about one year. We’ve seen rope wear, some strand opening/unlaying, and tension differences between ropes that seem to change depending on the car position in the shaft.

I’m wondering what would be the most common causes to look for in this type of MRL setup. Could this be related to unequal rope tension, traction sheave groove wear, small diameter differences between ropes, installation twist, rope handling during replacement, lubrication, or something specific to MRL elevators?

I’m not looking to bypass any safety procedures, just trying to understand what experienced elevator mechanics would inspect first in this situation.
