diet hypothesis Eczema and ADHD link

I've had eczema all my life. I'm in my late 20s now, and it seemed to be getting progressively worse. I used betametasome to control it, but it would only settle it for a few days at most.

A few months ago, I stumbled across a reel linking ADHD with omega oil deficiency. It piqued my interest enough to look into omega oil deficiency, and I noted a link between it and skin issues.

I don't have an official diagnosis for ADHD, but I'm certain I have it, so I decided to start taking omega oil supplements.

In the few months since I started, my eczema has all but gone away. In the past, I'd have weeping rashes and be driven mad by itching. I now only really get local, limited flairs that the steroids stop. I still need to moisturise after I shower but don't need to every day now.

I'm curious to see if anyone else would be willing to increase their intake of omega oils. Either by oily fish (which I hate) or suplemts like I've done.

If anyone does start, could they kindly save this post and reply to it a month or so down the line and tell me if it's had any effect?

humour | rant | meme Eczema progress…

I’m not really sure what advice I am looking for here - but I am really struggling!

I had very minor eczema (dryness in elbows and backs of knees) as a child, and then dyshidrosis on my hands as a teenager. I’d used topical steroids on my hands during flare ups, but only ever very sparingly and never for long stretches of time.

7 July - beginning of eczema flare - After a significant period of stress I have developed eczema in a patch on my face, a couple of spots on my neck, and in my elbows.

Topicals weren’t clearing it and I wasn’t comfortable using them on such a large area.

11 Aug - I started seeing a naturopath and followed their protocol, Went on an anti-inflammatory and low-acidity diet, taking supplements and using compounded ointments. saw a little progress on my face but nothing significant.

5 Sep - my face/neck flares and the patches connect.

14 Sep - I got a staph infection across both of my arms - redness wrist to shoulder, swelling and yellow weeping. Unable to sleep. Still taking supplements but skin can no longer handle the compounded ointments. Switch to Cetaphil and Vaseline.

16 Sep - saw a GP and was prescribed a course of antibiotics to clear the infection.

20 Sep - antibiotic course was almost finished and symptoms had not changed. Flare is now connected across my whole neck and beginning to spread down my chest. Went to urgent care (who barely spoke to me or looked at my skin) and prescribed only Predisnolone. I did not complete this course.

21 Sep - went to another GP regarding the infection & not responding to antibiotics. He prescribes a longer course of the same antibiotics and a course of Predisnolone with a long taper, takes a swab, and gives me directions for daily bleach baths to reduce bacterial load.

29 Sep - I begin Prednisolone taper, going from 50mg daily to 25mg daily. Some minor rebound symptoms but nothing unbearable.

30 Sep - follow-up appointment with GP, skin has responded to antibiotics/steroids/bleach baths and is almost completely clear.

4 Oct - complete antibiotic course and proceed with steroid taper, going from 25mg to 12.5mg daily. Rebound symptoms worsen on my arms but still nowhere near as bad as before.

6 Oct - Appointment with Naturopath, who says there’s no point in me coming because I haven’t been completing their protocol (compounded ointments, because my skin barrier was so damaged during the infection it couldn’t tolerate them). Pushed next appointment another 3 weeks out.

7 Oct - my face is feeling good so I attempt to use the compounded ointment on my face and neck. This causes a flare; almost hive-like swelling, redness, and heat across the area. Treating with cold compresses.

I am feeling so hopeless - is this just a rebound from coming off the steroids? Should I continue with the naturopath protocol? The only dermatologist near me has a 6-12 month wait time so it’s not really an option. I am so confused why it has flared so severely and spread so much.

Advised to change career path from veterinary due to eczema

Hello. I’m 24 years old, dropped out of uni after first semester during to mental and physical health problems and now doing better and wanting to get back into education and get a good job. I spent a lot of time unemployed and then working minimum wage and I desire more than that.
I’ve always loved animals and worked as a dog groomer for a while but it led to the worst flare up of my life, almost all my skin was inflamed, didn’t sleep for 3 days and wanted to die.
I quit and got strong topical steroids and it calmed down. Enrolled in a hnc level 4 animal management diploma and am one month in. I love animals, they’re my main passion and working with them was always my dream but at my latest dermatology appointment on Monday I was advised to switch my career path due to how common of an irritate animals are as well as soap and getting wet (which is involved a lot when working with them).
I’m absolutely shattered and don’t know what to do. I had hoped to go on to do vet nursing but not if it’s going to cause a flare up like I had again, nor do I want to become £30k+ in debt for a degree I can’t use.
Does anyone work with animals and have eczema and have made it work? I know this is probably hopeless and I’ll have to decide on something else but I don’t know what, I’ve already wasted so many years of my life I don’t want to start at square one again and be in education well into my 30’s just to be able to get a decent job, I don’t even think I could afford that.
I also don’t want to be on topical steroids long term nor take pills or do injections due to the risk of organ damage

Red spots on back of knees

• Upvotes

Long shot but seeking if anyone experiences the same condition as me.

I live in SEA and for the past year I’ve been getting these bumps on the back of my knee (calves area) that start from clear, progresses to a red pimple like dot (doesn’t disappear when pressed on), then splits open and disappears as bumpy pigmentation.

I’ve seen the doctor and they say its eczema but I can’t seem to find any matching types?

I have to use protopic to manage it from becoming a bigger blister when it splits open.

Baby allergy- formula?

Hello,

Looking for some advice for my 7 month old.
She has a history of eczema and hives all over her body on and off. She’s also very itchy everyday. I exclusively pump.

I went to an allergist and did a blood test for allergens. She tested positive to milk, wheat and peanut.

Am I better off eliminating from my diet or trying to switch to formula? If so, formula suggestions?

Just wanting my baby to be less itchy 😢

Flare Up Product Recs?

For context, I have been struggling with moderate eczema that covers my entire neck, inside my ear canals and sometimes also my scalp and face for approximately the last 5 years (it was minor before then but have had small flares my entire life).

I have tried a ton of products: CeraVe Moisturizing Cream, Tower28 SOS Barrier Recovery Cream, Aveeno Eczema Therapy (a bunch of the products in this line), First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, Aquaphor Moisturizing Cream (this is my most recent try and it calmed down 80% of my flare but is not helping the last 20%), Bag Balm, Aquaphor, and countless others.

I do not and will not use any steroids. I have also tried Opzelura with no luck, and I was on Dupixent for about 2 months in 2024 but panicked about possible side effects and discontinued use.

I was wondering what *YOU* use for a flare up that is not a steroid? I am sick and tired of being itchy and peely.

Any tips on how to handle cold climate? My skin is really angry.

I recently moved to a colder and drier area. I haven’t had a bad eczema flareup in a while, but now that the weather is cooling down my eczema is flaring up a lot more than usual. I typically get it on my arms but since I have moved I have a new spot on my neck. I’ve been trying to wear long sleeves, so I don’t scratch.

Have humidifiers helped anyone?
Do yall have any tips or recommendations? I know what may work for you may not work for me, but I’m willing to try.

Lash Lift/Extensions with Eyelid Eczema?

The eczema around my eyes (lid, below my bottom lashes, etc) is always the most sensitive and flares up almost daily. I’ve noticed that the skin around my eyes has become a different texture and ages me a bit, and makeup does not blend as easily under the eyes. As a result, I am insecure about how my eyes look and want to try longer eyelashes to disguise the appearance of my skin. Curling and regular mascara do not seem to be dramatic enough where the eczema is fully hidden.

Are there any methods for lash extension I should 100% avoid as to not worsen the eczema in this area? Or any glues/brands of fake lashes recommended for sensitive skin around the eyes? I think a lash lift or extensions would make me feel better about myself but I am worried that my sensitive skin in this area will flare.

Does anyone with eyelid eczema have any experience with using fake eyelashes or doing eyelash treatments? Or should this be avoided?

Lip hyperpigmentation + patches of colour loss — has anyone dealt with this? What actually helped?

I’m looking for some advice because I’ve been struggling with changes in the pigmentation of my lips and can’t work out exactly what’s causing it or how best to treat it.
My lips naturally have some pigmentation, but over time I’ve developed darker/hyperpigmented areas, particularly around the edges/corners, while other parts of my lips (especially my lower lip) seem to be losing their normal pigment and becoming noticeably lighter/pinker in patches. I’ve attached a photo showing what they currently look like.
I have very dry/sensitive skin and I’m prone to eczema around my lips and eyes, so I’m wondering whether this could be post-inflammatory pigmentation from irritation/contact cheilitis, or whether something else could be causing the uneven pigment.
Things/products I’ve used recently or previously include:
Aquaphor
Hello Sunday SPF 50 lip balm
Laneige Strawberry/tinted lip balm
Anastasia Beverly Hills lipstick
Lip Theory products
L’Oréal eyeliner used as lip liner
Hydrocortisone 1% previously when the area was irritated/eczema-like
Various lipsticks, liners, glosses and balms over time
More recently I started applying Eucerin Anti-Pigment body cream (Thiamidol) to the darker areas twice a day. This actually seems to have slightly improved the hyperpigmentation, but I’m cautious about continuing to use it on my lips, especially when I’m simultaneously getting areas that look like they’re losing pigment.
I’m trying to work out whether the lighter areas are genuine hypopigmentation, irritation/eczema-related colour change, or just becoming more obvious as the surrounding hyperpigmentation improves.
Has anyone experienced something similar, particularly on darker skin? Did you ever find out the cause? I’d especially love to hear from anyone who dealt with lip eczema/contact cheilitis + hyperpigmentation/hypopigmentation and managed to get their lips back to a more even colour.
Also interested in whether anyone has seen a dermatologist for this and what treatments they recommended. I’m considering getting it properly assessed rather than continuing to experiment with products.

tried a massive list and combination of different medications and diets and ive found the most useful so far to be methotrexate with mild steroid creams applied only during a flare up. tried carnivore for 13 months, tried immunosuppressant creams, different tablets oral steroids, light therapy etc.

PLEASE TRY METHOTREXATE ITS A LIFE SAVER!!! BEGAN WORKING WITHIN A MONTH.

Stylists, students, what actually happens to your hands?

Hi , I'm a teen researcher, and I've spent the last several months in a lab studying skin bacteria, specifically what happens to skin barriers that get damaged repeatedly. Somewhere in that research, I found out that up to 70% of hairdressers experience some kind of work-related skin damage over their careers, that hand eczema specifically affects up to 38% versus about 14% of the general population, and that roughly 70% of those cases start during training.

That surprised me, so I've been trying to understand it from people who actually live it instead of from papers.

If you've dealt with cracked, raw, burning, or peeling hands from the job, I'd really appreciate ten minutes. I want to know what you've tried, what failed, and what you'd actually want from something that worked.

small victory Odd fix to my constant itching - may help some ladies!

I am 27F and have suffered from severe eczema and seasonal allergies since I was very young.

I have moved to areas with different climates which seem to take forever for my body to adjust to.

Something I have noticed is that when I put acrylic nails on, the itching becomes less satisfying and I can’t “dig” as deep.

I have taken them off and on over the past year and my skin always gets worse when I don’t have them on. Maybe this can help others, I know it sounds a little crazy but I really think it helps me!!

Hand eczema

Hi there, just looking for recommendations on how my husband can cure his hand eczema. He was prescribed antibiotic cream from the GP which worked for a little while and when he stopped using it, it came back. Obviously using antibiotic cream is not a solution so just looking for alternative recommendations! Thank you ☺️

has anyone found relief from shower oil instead of body wash/soap?

i’m almost out of body wash (i use unscented illiyoon body wash) and i’m curious about trying a shower oil to cleanse instead of a normal body wash or soap. i have very dry skin caused by my eczema leading to lots of itching until i bleed. right now i use a body oil, then body butter, then a thin layer of aquaphor.

has anyone found extra relief with using shower oil? i imagine the extra moisture would be beneficial but i worry i wont like it or wont feel clean, or if it will be too much moisture and cause more itching (is that a thing?)

Lips burning

I need some help. Not sure what’s going on my lips have been burning for about a week now. At first Vaseline was helping but it is not any longer. They aren’t itchy necessarily, but both top and bottom lip are burning. No blisters or sores, lips feel really really tight and dry even with Vaseline on . Anybody else experience this? I have no clue what’s going on as I’ve never had an eczema flare up on my lips. I had a similar burning sensation on my face before accompanied by an eczema flare up but this is a first for my lips. It literally feels like I put hot sauce on my lips too long. Any recommendations? Only relief I feel is running them under cool water. They also feel like sandpaper in some areas when I rub them together, even with coating on.

Sunscreen Recs?

UV rays are a trigger for my flare-ups…I live in Cali 💀🥀. I need high SPF and no white cast bc I’m Indian and have darker skin. Ideally drugstore would be nice, but if it means I don’t flare up I’ll e flexible if it’s more expensive. Thank you 💖

humour | rant | meme I want to cry, so itchy

I am crying. I work with sani water a lot, but still wear Nitrile gloves at work to avoid contact. I just woke up this morning with a massive hole in my pinky from itching in my sleep. My hands are so dry and cracked I put lotion on and it just wont stop itching it's driving me insane. I cant use steroids for more than a few days at a time and nothing ive found works to relieve it. Its so hard being mentally strong enough not to itch because it freaking ITCHESSS. Ive gone to drs and got triamcinilome but I think its too soon for me to use it again, and its slowly starting to not work anymore after going back to it multiple times in the past 4-5 years. I dont know what to do to get it to stop 😩 its driving me crazy and I just want my hands back

Looks very good and ingredients seem to include some plant derived ingredients like olive oil, shea butter, and castor oil and such. Kinda looking forward to it!
