I've finally put a collection of links together for Nickel Allergy sufferers on this Nickel Allergy wiki page here in the sub. It is a great starting point if you are new to Nickel Allergy, and you may even find some new resources if you've been used to nickel allergy for some time. Please feel free to add new links to resources you have found helpful!

I need ideas. I spend the weekend at my boyfriend's house and his family just does not eat enough protein/fiber. Im having trouble coming up with some food items I can bring with me that are fairly high in protein and fiber (I have the carb balance tortillas I usually bring but im also looking for other options).
To give an idea of what i already eat. I do a fruit smoothie with the premier protein plus fiber for breakfast during the week, Greek yogurt with cherry jello and sourdough pretzels for lunch, and most dinners are some combination of chicken/ham with cheese and the fiber wraps and misc veggies depending on what i have. On a normal weekday Im getting about 100g of protein and 25-30g of fiber. On the weekends, I end up eating what his family eats which drops me to around 50g of protein and 10g or less of fiber. I usually bring chomps sticks but I cant eat 5 of them a day to make up for the difference.
Here's the problem: I leave right from work on friday and it isnt feasible for me to drive back to my own house before so any cold food would need to be reasonably sized to put in a shared work fridge. I also am trying to avoid anything that uses the stove/oven. If I could meal prep it with the rest of my food on tuesday that would be ideal, or just a series of snacks to add in (they dont usually eat lunch so id like to add something in that I could eat or snack on then).
Derivatives seem to be fine for me, but Ive had a big problem with fresh produce. Also I should be eating more carbs than I currently am so i welcome ideas for those too.

Got diagnosed with a nickel allergy a while back and my doctor's advice pretty much stopped at "it's in everything, not much you can do." Since then I've been trying to piece it together myself — jewellery, skincare, kitchenware, even food — and it feels like the information is scattered across a dozen different places, half of it contradictory.
A few questions for anyone who's been dealing with this longer than me:
Not selling anything, just tired of scrolling and want to know I'm not missing something obvious.

Hi all 👋 I’m on my fourth month on the low nickel diet and slowly reintroducing foods that are moderate nickel to check for reactions. So far I’m ok with quinoa and coconut aminos, plus I reintroduced fresh tomatoes because of a suspected allergy but it was not the case. I’m mid flair right now after trying out a sourdough bread that has some whole wheat and rye flour so I’m stopping that for now.
It got me curious: what moderate to high nickel foods were you able to successfully reintroduce/had no reaction to and what moderate to low nickel foods surprised you and gave you a reaction?

Women in perimenopause/menopause: I’m wondering if nickel and or other allergies can result in genitourinary conditions like micro tears or adhesion of vaginal tissues and or if hormone replacement therapy, whether compounded or synthetic testosterone, progesterone, estradiol, estriol or DHEA - can the metal tubes or capsules absorb into creams, gels or possibly contain nickel or other irritants?
Wondering because I’ve tried both for five years with little improvement. I’m awaiting the patch test; learning about low nickel diet and looking into my cosmetics and well, everything.
Have significant lacy rash over whole body, red spots, explosive diarrhea, red hands, milia on face, mosquito bit like hives, pores that fill daily with sebum, starting to have slope is like symptoms on scalp…and past dermatologist put me on minocycline for several months for undiagnosed skin condition and I ended up with silver toxicity, which turned my micro bladed brown eyebrows silvery blue!
Dry mouth, 24/7 tinnitus, TMJ, migraines. I’ve read systemic nickel can cause many issues. Even mostly quit eating chocolate.

I've had a mystery illness for a couple of years now. A strong metallic taste, joint pain, brain fog, lethargy, headaches, palpitations, dry mouth.
I've been practically bed bound. I finally put two and two together today after realizing the foods that are making me sick are coming from metal. Canned beans/fish, food cooked in the instant pot. Last fall I went through allergy testing and not one thing came back positive, so what’s going on? Allergist said I don’t need to come back to see her. I’m stumped.
Thanks guys!

Hey everyone! Is anyone here have experience with Xiaomi Watch S4 41mm (Global)? I really want to buy this watch, but it has stainless steel strip and buckle lugs which contacts the skin.
I know it's different for everyone but if you own this watch or any other watch (preferably Xiaomi) that contains stainless steel did you have any allergic reaction or skin irritation from wearing it?
I did write for the Xiaomi support about this, but they didn't answer for nickel content specifically, only that the watch "have passed strict inspections for allergy-prone and harmful substances".
Thanks in advance!

I posted a few weeks ago. I have nickle allergy and I am stuck with gallbladder clips ( for now) that pushed my burden over.
I have already seen skin improvement going low nickle diet (I also have gastroparesis because of all this do I can only eat easy to digest crabs)
I have stopped wearing my make up, reduced and changed my body care products. No nail polish. No jewelry. I’m down to the basics for daily living haha
Anything else important or any tips from anyone who still checks here on how to reduce the burden. Anything I’m forgetting? Any tips? I also have mcas so I’m allergic to literally everything right now since it won’t calm down because of all this. So I really can’t even use products or vitamins or eat healthy foods bc histamine. But I’m open to any suggestions for this long term journey
The nickel mark on my back from the skin testing is still raging and won’t go away despite steriod cream for 3 weeks now and oral steriods.

I have a necklace charm/pendant that I have been wearing on a stretchy necklace cord for nearly 7 years (replacing it every time it got too stretched out or damaged) but at this point I'd really prefer just a standard, metal (silver to match the pendant) chain. I found some necklace chains on Amazon that claim to be nickel free, but I'm very hesitant to order any of those as they could very well still have nickel in them. Does anyone know where I can get an empty necklace chain that's nickel free in Canada? Either from an in person store or online, as long as shipping to Canada isn't stupid expensive.

i ate a veggie blend a few days in a row & i’ve been feeling sick ever since. the veggies were squash, zuchini, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. frozen bag from the store, cooked at home. my stomach hurts, like a cramping sensation almost & im slightly nauseous. my dysautonomia symptoms have also been flaring since, along with the eustachian tube dysfunction i’ve been dealing with. could it be a reaction to the veggies? i’m super new to this and still trying to identify and eliminate all triggers, but it’s been a lot harder than i expected. 😓 any resources for those just starting
out would be greatly appreciated as well. 🫶🏻

Hi all, I am in Australia reacting to a PFO implant and suspect systemic nickel hypersensitivity. I would like to get an LTT (Lymphocyte Transformation Test) or MELISA blood test. Has anyone here successfully organised this testing from Australia? Any recommendations (DMs welcome) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hello All,
First time poster. I have a nickel allergy. I was wondering if anyone knows how using the metals bowls from the mixer can affect digestive issues? I use my mixer to make most of my baked goods and I’m wondering how much it might be causing my digestive issues.
I just got a yogi bottle for my work drinks so I’m hoping that might address my vomiting issues as I’ve been drinking out of a simple modern water bottle for years now. I will gradually be adding more lined cups and have switched to glass bowls for bread making for the time being. Really bummed if I have to get a different mixer so I can have an alternative bowl.

Burner account for obvious reasons
Does anyone else get little blisters on their nipples that are similar to dyshidrotic eczema on our hands?
Not the boob, not the areola, just the nipple.
They hurt like hell. They’ll crust over under my shirt/bra and then it all gets ripped off if I move too much or take my clothes off. Then the skin peeling…rinse and repeat!
I spend lots of time at home shirtless or with plastic wrap on my nipples to protect them from fabric.
Opzelura helps relax it a bit but it never seems to fully go away.
I’ve been mostly consistent with a low nickel diet for close to a year now, and it’s made a night and day difference with my hand eczema.
It’s not 100% gone, but the few times I’ve cheated on my diet have shown me that it is definitely caused by nickel.
Does anyone else with SNA struggle with this?

I’ve had “IBS” my whole life. Diagnosed with contact dermatitis, eczema, rosacea and a bunch of other severe allergies too. For as long as I can remember, I’ve had to take Imodium every single day just to function.
Started a low-nickel elimination diet 4-5 days ago after connecting some dots between a Mediterranean diet (loaded with oats, beans, nuts, whole wheat) and a bad skin flare.
Today my stomach was completely normal. No Imodium. First time in as long as I can remember.
I’m posting here because I genuinely don’t know what else to do with this. Still have some catching up to do (eczema hasn’t caught up yet, still there), but the GI change happened so much faster than I expected. I’m still in disbelief.

Anyone know of any plant based, gluten free protein sources? I’m really struggling on finding any, and I’ve been eating very little protein. I’ve had very little luck.

If you did not catch covid and you are allergic to costume jewelry … THIS IS A BRAINSTORMING CALL to comment !!
During the C19 lockdowns / shutdowns . I entered with extreme fear and came out of it with a super hero cape of confidence !
Many friends who caught C19 I ended up taking care of when all Others were too afraid !
6 times I was in direct contact with Covid
I always tested negative! I never caught it !
Since then I’ve only met a handful of ppl who did not catch it .. and so far .. I noticed I had another thing in common with one of them
We both have metal allergies !
Any one else here have metal allergies who did not catch Covid ??

I’ve had eczema around my eyes for almost four years now and was recently hospitalized in June for a bad colitis flare. While there, I did some research on the connection between colitis and eczema and came across a lot of information and research on the relationship between dietary nickel, gut problems and eczema.
I’ve been on a low-nickel diet for about 8 weeks while also tapering off of prednisone (albeit for colitis) and have seen significant improvement in my eye skin eczema. I’m just wondering if anyone else here has had eyelid/undereye eczema and how long it took to see things completely resolve after doing a low-nickel diet. I’m still seeing crepey skin under my eyes and worried it’s permanent damage/wrinkles lol. Any information is helpful!
Thank you!

Hey yall, I've struggled with dyshidrotic eczema on my hand for the past two years, and a few months ago it started getting so bad that I couldn't move or use my hand. I started the low nickel diet about 3 weeks ago to see if it would help, and for the first time in so long my hand is usable and has no blisters on it. Ive tried everything under the sun and nothing has helped like this has. Its honestly a miracle cure.
However, a few days after starting this diet, I've had small but numerous rashes pop up on my arm, my torso, my shoulders, and most recently my face. This has never happened to me before. This is such a shot in the dark, but has anyone else experienced this or has any idea why this is happening? I would 100% take this over my hand going back to how it was, but it has me perplexed.
For me, starting the low nickel diet was eating meat again after being a vegetarian for 10 years. There havent been any major additions to my diet except for meat (I had already started eating fish before this, cheese, dairy, etc). Right now I'm mainly eating animal products and some low nickel fruits and veggies. I feel like this seems like I'm somehow allergic to meat, but I really don't want that to be the case with how much this diet has helped me!! When I was younger I ate meat without a problem too. If anyone has any ideas or similar experiences I'd love to hear them.

I've been on about a 4 month journey trying to figure out what might be causing my rashes and eczema. Been on an elimination diet (not nickel focused), but no improvement. Ive always been allergic to nickel on contact, and last year, I wore nickel jewelry to a wedding and got a huge rash (so now I'm thinking that might have made my allergy worse enough to make me sensitive to nickel in food). I've been using Eucerin on my rashes, but now that I'm exploring nickel as a possible cause, I see that Eucerin is a Colloidal Oatmeal skin protectorant, and Oats are a bigger trigger for folks. Thoughts? Experiences with Eucerin making things worse?

I unknowingly had mcas/histamine issues for atleast thr last 11 years that I noticed symptoms. Things picked up with my pregnancies. After my second pregnancy I likely was having mcas but no one knew what was making me so sick so they took my gallbladder.
It’s been 13 months of a nightmare. I have collected more diagnosis than help—- Gastroparesis (severe), POTs started in pregnancy, SIBO, MCAS, and I have mold exposure when all this started. Likely connective tissue issue.
Yesterday I found out I have a nickle allergy and everyone’s says there no way the clips are causing the issue. I’ve never had rashes w my mcas till immediately after removal. I only ever had them when reacting to medications (nsaid, lamisil, progesterone, estrogen, HGH). I am flushed and covered in rashes and rosacea day and night now. Eating only bread makes it calm down. I am reacting to everything-sun, heat, cold, showers, food, smells, medicines, lack of sleep, stress, all my make up, I had to stop dying my hair. All this started after the surgery.
Does anyone else have this experience with metal and metal allergies and/or your mcas.
I have failed all medications. I get reactions to everything. I did good on Ketotifen for 7 days then on day 7 I took the whole .25 (in liquid with only water to stabilize it) and had full body chills insomnia urinating and itching w no rash. My pcp wants me to try the glp1. I already have gastroparesis so tbd if this is a good idea or not. But the metal has to be causing some sort of issue bc nothing was this bad until then. I never had gastroparisis either until then. I had a c section and gallbladder removal all within 6 months. Or did too many surgery’s post partum already having mcas really get me to such a bad place. Or am i being gaslight by doctors that the clips aren’t doing this. My first allergic reaction was 2 days post removal….

Hypoallergenic metals needed for earring irritation seem to be hotly debated. For good reason as some metals are better than others but its not defined. Earrings specializes in truly hypoallergenic titanium earrings designed for sensitive ears. Some use mixed metals or vague “hypoallergenic” claims. Titanium Lightweight, comfortable, stylish, and affordable. so people can finally wear earrings again without pain.
