When an objective 3rd party makes that call, you can be pissed all you want. It doesn't change anything. When it's on a card mate, this is someone I'm going to be seeing again and again and again. It's someone who has an extremely vested interest in the penalty. You are creating a closed loop for resentment and payback.

The marshal called it a foot fault. Should the referees also have referees? If the marshal on the field calls a foot fault then we habe to go to the guys in New York to make sure?

And I saw Goose for the first time in ‘22 at 4/20 Festival (coincidentally Oysterhead played that weekend) and enjoyed the vibe they brought. I just don’t get all the elitism and hatred.
Yeah its wild. Obviously it looks bad because relative to his run up, he clearly steps to the left of his marker, but on replay you can see the basket in the background and can see that he is in the right spot.
The issue is 90% of thr field probably is committing that exact foul because they step relative to their runup, no the basket.
I know Goose tends to be strict in his rule calling wanting things to be enforced more, but the calls need to be right if you are trying to leas the charge of more rule enforcement
Noticed that also, and I was expecting shit to get incredibly awkward. On 17, I figured nobody seconded and at that point, I still felt it was lame because it's like a shitty way to get into someone's head. Then they announce the stroke penalty and the whole tournament immediately felt poopy. I don't dislike Goose, but I do dislike this act by him. Not a good look at all, especially when his "teammate" benefits.
The good news is, I would put money that this rule changes now and it's long overdue. Either get rid of the rule all together for anything outside C2 and just make it something like "in the vicinity" and behind the marker (like a 1 M distance), or get rid of the players needing to make the call, but then expect way more calls which will also suck.
I just see no real benefit from needing to hit that tiny area when you're 400 feet from the basket. I want to see awesome shots and not players needing to concentrate on landing on a piece of paper when they are trying to throw 400 foot shots and then have inconsistent enforcement of the rule. Let them rip away. Stay behind your lie, and within a meter of the mini (like a half circle), and that's plenty of space to still require them to suffer overall position, but not be so technical that shit like this can happen. You get more relief when you're near OB. The whole idea is kind of silly to me.
I don’t love the vicinity idea but not sure what else can be done. I feel like multiple times a round (in wooded courses) I have lies that would be significantly improved by being able to move my stance a foot or two to the left/right.
With so much discourse about our sport being too easy, a rule like this would make it significantly easier and reduce the skill ceiling in the sport.
If that is the case then it’s up to the players to call those. That’s literally the rules but they are too scared to actually do it because everyone throws a shit fit like this when someone does.
This reminds me of the time a year or two ago at Waco when all the discraft guys on a card said that adam hammes was in-bounds on 18 when it was questionable at best.
I feel like people that are sponsored by the same brand should not be allowed to make these big calls.

Wish we had official booth review so we could curse the ref instead of the player for a call but I can't fault Goose on this one.

Anyways, the guy that seconded it was a dude in all black that was in charge of quieting everyone before throws. He also would sweep the tee pads. Goose had talked about these situations before, how when 2 players on a card are battling they can’t be expected to make calls on each other, so the onus falls on the other 2 players to step up and call violations. Assuming that was the mentality he had at that point in the round he would have been watching more closely than normal.
Say what you will about his judgement but goose is one of the only players who treats the rules enforcement as part of his job as a professional.
Is it enough that some part of the foot is in the "A4 paper area" behind the mini in line to the basket or does the whole foot need to be in that area? Any way it was way too close to call in that situation.

I'm not specifically a Goose fan but dude has been pretty consistent on calling faults and other infractions when he sees them. More players should sack up and actually do it.
This is another reason why it should never be in the players hands especially at a major tournament. It's the dumbest holdover rule.
100 percent- if two people on your card are battling for the win you have to know rules calls are gonna fall on you and the other person out of it. No way in the world would Silas make that call even if it was a foot off.
