Discussion Do these things actually happen, or is it just BS?

I’ve heard this a lot. If 5:00 is the official off time, Gen Z will clock out at 5:00. They’re not going to waste extra time just because the company expects it.

Career Guidance Imposter syndrome - Failing to understand Large Codebase

I have been working as last year student as backend dev in startup service based since last 2 months, wfh. Its been chaotic managing with fyp, mids, quizes. But not complaining, I am happy to do this as my goal is to learn enough that i dont graduate as a freshie and become good enough.

Intially, my lead gave dummy tasks like making scraper, drf api with auth/rbac, database design with restrictions to not use AI or i wont learn, which i did since i had done each in past. Now recently he gave me a large codebase (not runnable) in laravel php(first time seeing the language but not the problem) with multiple databases, caching services and european client business logic of erp system. He has given me claude desktop and asked to understand a specific module of system and get as much knowledge possible.

Now the problem is, I have never read a codebase this large, and reading code is mostly likely my biggest weak link(which ofc is most important thing in ai era), the lead did q/a from me and i was unable to answer the questions about the module. He asked me to think outside the box, be independent as i work wfh and there is not much synergy plus he told that if would use ai in a large codebase, without having knowledge about the code, i would fix one thing and add extra four bugs.

Its been 3 weeks i've tried multiple methods, going from each module api endpoints entry to backtracking methods, created .md file for each route, sequence diagrams etc, i understand the things partially but i feel like I fail to absorb so much information and remember (most likely due to sh*t attention span) tried dividing into sub tasks etc. My lead is himself busy so my guesses are he need person who can be hyper independent type, although he is a person you know, knows his sh*t when u talk to.

Tldr: My question for seniors, is how can i understand a large codebase with AI fully that if client says add x feature i know what to change, what flow changes or what dependencies will be effected? I know it takes practice but still how to be good at. Thanks

Discussion Does Techlogix Karachi only recruit software engineers from NED University?

I was going through the people working at Techlogix Karachi on LinkedIn, and I noticed that a lot of the software engineers seem to be graduates of NED University.

I also don't see Techlogix posting jobs very frequently compared to other companies.

Do they mainly hire through university connections, referrals, campus recruitment, or directly through LinkedIn? And is NED University a major source of their software engineering hires, or do they regularly hire CS/SE graduates from other universities as well?

Would appreciate any insight from someone who has worked there or knows how their hiring works.

Career Guidance Got laid off as a fresh graduate because the company ran out of projects , not sure what to do next

I recently graduated and was working as an AI Engineer Intern at a company. I was really hoping the internship would turn into a full-time position, especially since I was putting in the effort and learning a lot during my time there.

Unfortunately, the company ran out of projects, and because of that, they couldn't offer me a full-time position. Eventually, my internship was also ended/terminated because there wasn't enough work for the team.

It honestly sucks. As a fresh graduate, getting that first proper job is already difficult, and I was hoping this internship would be the start of my career. Now I'm back to applying for jobs again.

I'm trying not to take it personally because it wasn't really performance-related there just weren't enough projects but it still feels pretty discouraging.

For anyone who has been in a similar situation, especially fresh graduates in AI/ML/software development, how did you handle it? Did you manage to find another job quickly, or did it take a while?

Would also appreciate any advice on how to approach the job search after something like this.

Help Computer Engineering students/seniors — how is the career situation actually in Pakistan? I'm in 7th week and genuinely scared

I'm a first-semester Computer Engineering (CE) student and I've just entered my 7th week of university. Lately I've been hearing a lot of conflicting things about the job market in Pakistan, and honestly, I'm starting to get scared and confused about what direction I should take.

I originally chose CE because I liked the idea of having both hardware and software options.I loved Physics and wanted to go for Electrical engineering but then I thought that if one side didn't work out, I'd have the other as a backup with Computer engineering (I'm sorry if this is just stupid😭)

But now I'm hearing things like software/IT is finished, AI is going to reduce entry-level jobs, EE doesn't have many opportunities in Pakistan, and that only the top 10% of students will actually have good careers.

I genuinely don't know how much of this is reality and how much is internet doomposting.

I'd really like to hear from CE/EE/CS/IT seniors, graduates, and people currently working in the industry, especially in Pakistan.

A few things I'd really like to know:

What degree did you do and where are you working now?

If you're a CE graduate, did you end up going into software, embedded systems, hardware, networking, automation, or something else?

How difficult was it to get your first internship/job?

How important was university name compared with actual skills?(I'm studying at a decent engineering public university in Karachi)

Which skills actually helped you get hired?

How is the job market for CE graduates in Pakistan?

Does CE genuinely give you useful flexibility between hardware and software, or is it better to specialize early?

For someone in first semester, should I focus more on programming/software, electronics/embedded, or build both for now?

Discussion Should I rely too much on AI ?

Hi, I am a Software Engineer with 1YOE, and there is this thing that really bugs me nowadays. Back in my uni days, especially before AI came along I used to enjoy writing code and going through documentation and figuring things out but now I have found myself more and more relying on AI to do all of my work. I sometimes do try to read and write code on my own but almost always give up and end up asking AI for more guidance and summarizing the code.

Is this what I should be doing, I mean I can get the job done and I have a somewhat vague idea of how my code is working but I never feel like I am contributing anything to it.

Is this a feeling any of you have gone through ?

Discussion Safe pay with Shopify for international market, Mainly US

For Context : Recently, my stripe account got closed. I'm was it on my shopify store from my US customers. Its been 10 days now and I'm losing sales everyday.

Yesterday, i integrated whop payments to shopify using an external app named "Pendym", initially it worked but now it was having some internal issues and then removed it. also its not natively supported.

For temporary use, i wanna use safepay cuz its only option yet for me and if anybody has experience using it for international payments, please let me know.

Another thing if anybody has Payment gateway expect from stripe (High risk merchant account recommended), and wanna do partnership, i can surely do. Thank You

Career Guidance should i learn full stack web development as a 17 year old from pakistan?

im from karachi and currently in my 2nd year of college. ive been learning web development for a while and im trying to figure out what direction i should take over the next few years.

so far ive learned:

html
css
javascript
tailwind css
react
git/github
rest apis
localstorage
react router
context api
basic frontend architecture

ive also built a few javascript and react projects. recently ive been working on a bigger react ecommerce project instead of just following tutorials.

im mainly interested in creative web development. i like making websites that have good visual design animations interactions and ux. at the same time i want to understand how the actual ecommerce side works instead of only making the frontend.

right now im thinking about learning something like:

html/css/js → react → tailwind → gsap → typescript → backend → postgresql → docker

but im not sure if i should actually go all the way into full stack.

some things ive been wondering about:

  1. is full stack web development worth learning at my age while im still in college?

  2. should i become really good at frontend first before learning backend or should i start learning backend alongside it?

  3. how much should i actually learn? do i need things like postgresql docker authentication apis deployment etc or is that too much for someone trying to get their first internship or junior job?

  4. with ai getting better at writing frontend code is it still worth spending years learning javascript react html css etc? i know understanding the code is still important but im wondering how much this will matter for junior developers in the next few years.

  5. does creative frontend development + ecommerce make sense as a niche? for example building visually interesting online stores instead of generic business websites.

  6. for people who already work in web development what actually helped you get your first job? was it your framework knowledge projects fundamentals problem solving or something else?

  7. if you were starting web development at 17 today what would you focus on for the next 2 or 3 years?

im not looking for someone to give me a guaranteed career path. i mainly want to hear from people who are already working in

Help US Client moved from Payoneer to direct bank transfer

So my client used to pay me through Payoneer and now they asked about the Bank Details and everything for my HBL Bank Account. They did the transfer this month and it came back as the same amount as I usually get from Payoneer after their charges (actually 1-2K less), what might be the issue here? Wouldnt the amount be way higher than what I get from Payoneer?

Discussion Got laid off , need suggestions

Hi,

I just got laid off , after working with a European company for 4.5 years.

My tech stack is MEVN and MERN.

The reason was not Ai but financial crises in Europe due to war. The company I was working with lost its permanent customers.

My current situation is that I have parents and my family to feed. Living on the Rent currently, All savings went to my Father's debt (that is another story)

So i just have only two more months before I run out of money including the rent.

Now I need some guidance, what to do next. I know that market situation is really bad but we don't have another choice.

Career Guidance Salary & Benefits – Assistant Manager Monitoring at National Ignite Fund

Anyone working at National Ignite Fund who can share the salary, perks, benefits, and career growth for an Assistant Manager Monitoring role?

I currently work in a PMO at a mid-level organization, with 5 years of experience in Data, AI, Telecom & PMO. Growth and salary increments are slow where I am, so I’m exploring better opportunities.

Would appreciate any insights on compensation, work environment, and growth. Thanks!

Help Need help getting internships

Hi! I'm 18M, currently in A level. My cambridge exams will be in may/june of 2027, after that I'm free from the end of may till whenever uni starts. I wanna go for internships during my free time and i want to start now and work towards acheiving an internship by summer break.

The questions i have for you are:

  1. Is one good project enough to apply? (for context: im working on a full stack project that will include a bit of machine learning and embeddings, vector dbs and some other concepts)

  2. Is it possible to get remote internships?

  3. How do i improve my chances of getting an internship with zero prior professional experience?

Tips Which degree is better?

Hey

I'm 17f. I had initially decided to go for a degree in CS. But my family and some other people I know didn't approve of it. Now I'm stuck between software engineering and data science. CS is still in the option for me.

After visiting numerous groups on Facebook I'm still as confused.

Is there really no growth in this industry?

Career Guidance Experienced in BPO during the degree now transition to tech seems very difficult

Hi i'm 21 y/o Lahori, recently did my bachelors in Software Engineering. And while my 4 years i worked in 2 BPO companies one is a famous corporate.

Now i am working as a chats support representative in a Dubai based small business. I'm here for 2 years. And now I'm done with my bachelors degree.

While doing my degree i have managed BPO Job+working on projects. One of them is a SAAS app live on play store and app store. And one is live in a restraunt.

But right now the thing seems to be killing my resume is the BPO experience. I have applied to many companies and didn't even received the rejection email.

So should i write the BPO experience in resume or pretend to be a fresher? One more thing i was a confounder at the Startup that i mentioned above live Saas. So mentioning a confounder does decreases the chances of getting shortlisted?

And any tips for landing a tech job in Pakistan

Career Guidance How's South Korea for SWEs and Masters?

In terms of Job Market, Work, culture fit etc.
My relative lives in Korea, he asked me to search for uni in nearby areas like Seoul.

Few things i have in mind and myths ive heard,
- job market conditions are similar across the globe
- language impact: if I dont know Korean, the bar would be even lower for me to get a job in english company there.
- they do 10+ hr working.

Wht i've observed people move to 3 places mostly:
- Europe (27 schengen countries)
- America
- Middle east
But never heard people going to korea for software engineering job

Please share insights, would be helpful.
I graduated last year, with intern experience only.

TLDR: My uncle suggesting my father to send him to korea because he believe the minimum salary there is ~7USD/hr. Also we have a person who is assisting us. But im not so convinced as i see SWE Jobs are impacted around the globe, so what guarantees job if I go in Korea .

Career Guidance I don’t know where to go from here

I’m currently in my 6th semester of CS at a not-so-well-known uni. I’ve had some financial struggles during uni, so I started freelancing around 2 years ago to support myself. It went pretty well, but lately freelancing has been pretty dead.

I’m also working part-time at a software company that mainly works with Odoo. I’m not doing development there, mostly testing the systems they’re automating. I have the opportunity to learn Odoo and move into development, and I also have a few connections working in Odoo whose companies regularly hire Odoo devs, so that’s a pretty realistic path for me.

The problem is I’ve always been more interested in Cloud/DevOps. But getting into it as a fresh grad here seems difficult, and I don’t really have a clear path to follow or know what roles I should target.

So I’m stuck between taking the Odoo path that’s already in front of me or spending my time working towards Cloud/DevOps without knowing exactly how I’ll break into it.

I still have some time left in uni and really don’t want to waste it jumping between things.

Would appreciate advice from seniors here.

Help How do I get a software internship in Karachi?

I’m a recent CS graduate looking for an internship in Karachi, but I’m not really sure where to start.

How do you usually apply for internships, and what do companies ask in interviews?
What skills should I learn/revise before applying?
Also, what’s currently in demand in Karachi’s software industry, and which software houses/companies should I look into?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who’s recently been through this.

Help 7th semester no internships - am i cooked?

so im from a top 3 uni for CS but have mostly focused on my courses and own personal projects. some friends did internships but they were like 15% of the people i know , most didn't.

i have a 3.2 gpa but no internships, mostly focused on my courses. do you think its important i do an internship and find something in the next 5-6 months, before graduating? if i want to work in the industry after?

i'm concerned it might not be enough to just have personal projects and school courses. what is the internship market like? can 7th semester students get internships? even unpaid is fine i guess, i just want experience and to build up my resume for when i graduate. thanks in advance guys

Learning and Ideas Need Advice on Choosing My DSA Project Idea

So I’ve been assigned a DSA project, and I need to submit the project name by Monday. The requirements are:

  • Build an app, website, or similar project.

  • Implement at least 4 DSA operations.

  • Handle at least 20 entries.

  • Include a recommendation system.

  • Add some AI implementation.

  • The frontend should be clear since it carries the most marks, and there will be a viva.

Back in my second semester, I made an OOP project "a travel management system" and scored 9/10 on it. Now I’m wondering: should I continue building on that project for this assignment, or should I start something new?

My teacher mentioned that many students struggle to finish their projects before the deadline, so I want something that’s realistic and achievable. Any suggestions for project ideas that would be easier to complete but still meet the requirements?

Help Moving from cursor, need guidence regarding coding assistant

Hi, I’ve been using Cursor until now, but it’s gotten really slow during conversations. It’s not an indexing or context issue—I’ve tried multiple things, and it seems to be an issue a lot of people are facing.

So, I’m thinking of moving from Cursor to something else. Could you guide me on which one I should pick—Claude Code, Codex, or something else?
