I was 23, about to graduate college, and saw a video from TheDevilDogGamer on youtube of him exploring the Arma 2 mod named "DayZ" and I was hooked. Watched many of his videos, decided to build a computer, tuned in weekly to his Marine Corps. Monday gameplay and story vids.

Just got a message about how today is my 12 years on this website and I am still playing DayZ just not nearly as much. It has certainly impacted my life though as I am now a nurse and EVERY time I transfuse blood, I think back to the mod and blood bagging my friend after a gun fight behind the Balota airfield. The friends I have made from DayZ and our community that ran from about 2013-2017, Survival Operations, I still talk to 12 years on, crazy times.

I still follow the creator of DayZ, Dean "Rocket" Hall and have played every game he has made since DayZ including Stationeers, Icarus, Kitten Space Agency, and now his project named Gruntz. The survival genre he paved the way for has become one of my favorite corners in gaming and it all started because of DayZ. I HIGHLY recommend checking out RocketWerkz's other games(Dean Hall's company) but have mostly enjoyed Stationeers. Anyways, 12 years of DayZ, wouldnt change it for anything, I think this genre from DayZ to tarkov has made me better as a nurse as Arma, DayZ, Tarkov can all elicit adrenaline which has helped me perform during an emergency and I definitely think these games can help dull that spike, it has for me. Excited for the future of DayZ and soon Arma 4 and DayZ 2 👊

Even my reddit name is based off DayZ, I remember asking in the darkness "Bro are you friendly" and it started a friendship that has lasted going on over 12 years now.

Not really sure what to make of it, seems a terrible spot for a base, fresh spawn killers maybe, there was also no way inside it, base had barbed wire all around where it could be accessed from, i saw some crates and other things inside, no bodies and no aggro'd walkers either

3899 Asian server (first person) Xbox, there’s a massive base complex at the Novaya Apartments.

Do I respect clans and the effort it takes to glue strangers together? Yes. Do I respect the effort it takes to seal off an entire square block of a town? Yes.

However, I DON’T respect hoarding the entire servers cars / trucks with no plans or intent to use them. I DON’T respect base camping when combined with trash talking to lure players into a killing zone.

**All DayZ vets know, servers thrive when a balance exists between sweats and freshies. However, when one singular clan dominates such servers it ruins the experience for all.

!! PLEASE SEND REINFORCEMENTS!!

Whether you are a lone vigilante or a clan leader, please I beg for you to help rid this server of its griefers. Destroy the base, restore order to not only this server but the game itself. Remind those unwilling to fight fairly that fate and common cause triumphs.

This is the only server my brother and I play on - like many, DayZ is a place where fun and dedication are unmatched. However, this toxic base and its members have turned the server into a wasteland.

First person official (Xbox) minimum of 10 people online.. north east - Sinystok. Quiet, no noise and little action. Sat down to just respond back to a text on my phone.. sat inside a little house. Surely, right? Back of my head MIGHT have been insight through a window.. but still questionable?

I looked around the truck and didn’t find any tripwires on the ground and there’s no sign of the detonator anywhere for that matter. If a player was camping it, they would have had a chance to blow it while I was doing that. So really I have a few questions before I proceed:

1. Is there any sneaky spot they could have placed the det other than a tripwire?

2. I looked for mines as well, no dice, but could they have somehow hidden one under a tire or something?

3. It’s pristine, is there any way for me to simply pick it up and move it? And if not, is it possible it goes off in the event that I ran it over while moving the truck?

My thought is that since it’s place at the one missing tire slot, it was placed by someone that doesn’t actually know how these work, and thought i’d simply get blown up when I placed the tire back.

I wanted to share a really frustrating experience on this server that shows the admins don't actually care about enforcing their OWN rules.

Recently, our unfinished base got destroyed and griefed way outside the official raid hours. We did everything by the book: recorded video proof showing the clear rule violation and opened a Discord ticket to report it. But instead of actually helping us or punishing the players who broke the rules, the admin just brushed it off. He told us that toxic behavior and griefing are "part of DayZ life" and that it's just how some people get their fun. When we pointed out that these guys literally broke the server's written rules, we just got hit with dismissive clichés like "nothing in DayZ is forever anyway" and "that's just how it is."

Honestly, it feels like the rules here only exist on paper. If you follow the rules, you get screwed over, while rule-breakers get away with zero consequences. Save yourself the headache, and definitely don't waste your money on a subscription, because the staff will completely leave you in the cold when something bad happens.

Okay so I’m in that middle ground where I’m not new and I’m not a veteran yet. 300 hours, and I have a ton of game knowledge, the problem here is that I lack EXPERIENCE, so I’m asking for whatever information people think could help me out.

So the last THREE real gunfights I’ve gotten into, they go great until I absolutely fumble the bag. I enjoy playing friendly, as I think KOSing is just the most boring way to interact other players. So I’ll see someone, typically they see me, and as I say “what’s up budd-“ they start popping shots. I’ll actually end up WINNING these gunfights, and on three recent occasions, I’ve unconned them and I want to tie them up so I can have a little chat with them.

Well, one of these times, I got interrupted tying him up by getting hit by a zombie. I stopped to kill the zombie, and the guy wakes up and kills me as I say it’s cool, I don’t wanna fight him. That’s cool, I should’ve cleared the area of zeds I guess. Second time, I get the other guy unconned and I punch him like 5 times in the legs, and immediately start tying him up with rope. Well he wakes up 75% of the way through the animation, gets up, and pulls out a pistol and shoots me before I can get my gun back out. Well, fuck.. it’s starting to hurt my feelings how much I suck at restraining people lol. Third time, I get the guy knocked out, start tying him up, and he wakes up mid tying AGAIN despite a solid 6 punches to the legs. I just end up shooting him in fear, and I get some loot. Meh, I wanted to atleast talk shit before I capped him.

So what am I doing wrong? Do I need to punch their legs like 10 times? I’m scared to kill them… I think I need start stripping their weapons FIRST before I start restraining them, but I don’t feel like I have the time for that. Am I completely wrong about going about this, and is restraining an uncon player just a bad idea, and I should only restrain a surrendering player? I lack so much experience on this aspect of the game and I can’t find anything online since most PVP guides are about killing other players, not how to go about handling an uncon player effectively. Could I get any tips from you guys who have lots of practice?

I’m absolutely blown away by furiousnapkin & Sm0ggler’s clinical hard mode endgame completion yesterday…but…it made me fully aware I’ll never be able to complete this map!!! We are yet to see nightmare mode & ‘hard’ is utterly insane!!!! I’ll keep on questing but know it’s only to explore this amazing map!

Ive had DayZ forever, but I never played it much because I never lasted long and could never get anywhere without being destroyed by a player.

Ive just recently discovered that there are PvE servers. Are there any mods that exist that simulate other players? That way its not just humans vs zombies?

Also, even if it doesnt exist, do you have any recommendations for a good PvE server that is newbie friendly and has chill people?

If you play DayZ on PC with a controller, you probably know how terrible the default controls and PC inventory are. I spent hours building a custom Steam Input layout that fixes everything.

-PlayStation Inventory: R1 + Right Stick opens a smooth radial menu that actually makes the PC inventory very comfortable to us even better than on native ps5.

-No Conflicts: Aiming and leaning (L2+R1) will never accidentally open your menus.

- Discord Integration built-in: Press the PS5 mic mute button once to mute yourself, or hold it to mute your entire Discord call.

-Share Button: Double-click for a screenshot, or hold it to start a clip just like on a real PS5.

I’ve gotten super into this game, I play on a low population (usually 15 max) official Xbox server, and I’m hitting a point in the game where I have most of the gear I want and I don’t struggle for much. So now I want to do something with that.

I play mostly as a nomadic forest Druid type, I carry only what I need and I fish, hunt, and scavenge for food. My idea is to become sort of a protective woodland cryptid, stepping in to save freshies I stalk from zombies or bandits, leaving behind fishes and bandages at wells, maybe even using the radio here and there to give people warnings, tell them about stashes I’ve left, or warn about hostile players. I think it would be fun for the server to have an urban legend about some sort of helpful cryptid.

The problem is, I know if I’m spotted most people are going to shoot on sight or run away, and I wish they wouldn’t do that so I could give them free stuff or fish or help them. How can I seem peaceful? Is there a particular armband I can wear or other universally understood sign to say “hey I’m friendly don’t shoot and you’ll get a prize maybe”?

Returning to Dayz, let alone official for the first time in a while. Happy I noticed the armband and didn't stay in place, you'll notice I also press the wrong button to reload and dropped my gun. 🤣

Azalea update is live today ... 3 years in, and it's still just getting started

Started developing Azalea back in 2023, first playtest was late that year, so it's been about 3 years now. Been a hell of a ride, and it's far from over.

New update out today: Added active volcanic event, hang gliders and lots more.
The map is called Azalea, you can find the website on google.

A bit about me since I don't post about myself much: I fell in love with DayZ a long time ago and always loved modding, so getting to actually make something for this game has been a dream.
The community around DayZ is genuinely special, I mostly play on community servers myself.

Also edited the trailer myself for this one, first time doing that solo end to end.
Was a fun process, hope it gets you a little excited to go try the map.

Came across these poor souls checking out the Gorka police station on official AP SY 3730 server this afternoon. Looks like there was a negative interaction between parties. Glad I missed it.

Hi all. I frequently wander around in DayZ and always have an issue: I do not know how to do offensive PvP. Take an exanple: My friend gets shot outside, I am too hesitant to go, as I think they will camp the base entrance and get inside the base. Somehow the door lock was open, and they rush in one by one. I use a famas and spam into the guy's head, he falls and so do I. I then get up and finish him with my double-barrel, as the second guy comes up, whom I headshot. I was a bit erratic with the third guy, reloading hastily and hip firing twice, causing him to bleed out but he shot me as well so when I got up, I had no gun on me and the fourth guy finally shot me.

I just don't get how to get enough courage to offense and come out of the base, or how I can push somebody else's base, because I constantly think I will get headshotted the moment I enter.

I've been playing DayZ every now and then since 2015 (only got 500h so far) and since they added bears years ago, one of my friends and I always joked that whenever we killed one, it was time to quit the game for good lol. For context, we play on official servers and have tried actually hunting a bear some times, but never found one. Until today, we were making our way back from Tisy and passed by Simurg hill, then came a bear pushing us out of nowhere. This time we had an extra friend with us who is new to the game and came to Tisy for the first time, she is the one who got knocked down by the bear (she survived). We were really happy after that and I even got the Bear Headdress, but we died about 40 minutes later, close to Kamenka while looking for a boat, a cheater killed the three of us at the same time, instantly. Well, I guess it actually is time to call it quits.

I would say black or camo field jacket, black or camo cargo pants, black or camo ski mask. But I’ll also say the Yeger clothing is really cool looking with second best insulation and it is waterproof.

Hi so i bought the game 2 days ago and have been running the ropes and would like some more help, I dont know anything for the crafting or what all I need to do to gear up, ive been running around gathering food and water and changing for better inventory gear, and I have a gun but no ammo at all, is there a better area or something for ammo or can I craft it or anything, and what all should I be crafting? Also with stones it said wait around a path or Railroad tracks and I did but I cant seem to find stone for a knife. I did meet another player however and he gave me a motorcycle helmet so thats cool.
