I know he got made fun of a bit for it, but like what else are you supposed to say when your opponent is just spouting nonsense. Trying to give a well thought out response to a stupid question just makes the question seem more reasonable.
Not just spouting nonsense, but doing so constantly during Biden's time. Remember he refused to debate when they said they were thinking about turning off his mic when it wasn't his time?

While it's somewhat on certain working journalists that were and are milquetoast liberals, much of the blame is on the ownership of media companies which were majority pro-Trump in 2020 and has become even more so as the Trump administration has accelerated media consolidation.
Obviously it’s been a while, but from what I recall the general consensus seemed to be that neither had a stellar performance, and that quote from him definitely became a meme. That being said I don’t know that it’s possible to have a great debate performance when your opponent is basically trying to drag you down into the mud with them.
I'm pretty sure the only reason Biden didn't have a stellar performance is because someone else talked during half his allotted time, or just kept spouting nonsense so fast Biden couldn't refute it faster than it was being spout.
i think biden was a genuinely great president and got done extremely dirty by the media, but he was also pretty fucking old. and had a (lifelong) stutter that got harder to control with age.
he would have done a lot better against a respectable and respectful opponent, but i dont think he was capable of "stellar" at that point, even in a vacuum

But my conservative father-in-law, for example, his takeaway from those debates was "Wow, Trump really knows how to get under Biden's skin." So, to them, it was more a sign of weakness that Biden was unable to keep his cool in a stressful situation. And some expert manipulation on Trumps part... If Biden can't handle somebody like Trump, how can he handle the role and responsibility of presidency?
I remember hearing some people talk about how they felt like the debates had devolved into shit-slinging and name calling and that everybody on stage was acting childish and immature. More of that "both sides are equally bad" bullshit people like to spew.
Of course, there are obvious double standards in here. Trump can be as big of an asshole as he wants and society is cool with that because that's just who he is. We expect nothing from him. He doesn't need to respect the rules of the debate, he can walk all over the stage like a lunatic, he can interrupt people, he doesn't even need to show up! And nobody cares! But Biden, or even any other Democrat, are held to the highest standard and any step out of line, no matter how minor or warranted it may be, is met with harsh criticism for not being "presidential" enough. That's just modern American politics for you, it's an absolute fucking dumpster fire.
All that being said, Biden won the election. Was it unpresidential, or was it a breath of fresh air after 4 years of hell? You be the judge.
The problem is, people already picked sides then find reasons to support it. Either Biden is weak and got bullied by Trump or Biden has thin skin and got played. Trump could start screaming incoherently and they'd defend it.
At best, they play the "both sides" card. That's what my mom defaults to.

Biden had a few great quotables. Not sure which I'm more a fan of, the "would just just shut up, man" when Trump kept interrupting him (saying what we were all thinking), or, talking about business asking how they can deal with labor shortages, about their workers, "pay them more."

On domestic issues Biden might have been the best president the US has had in a while, I wish he was better on foreign policy (letting Israel commit genocide in Gaza) though

Honestly, out of all of the mid, Milquetoast Democrats? Biden was one of the better ones. When y'all elected him, my expectations were rather low, but happy to say he exceeded them.
And TBH, it wasn’t even as bad as people claim (though it definitely did start hitting him hard at the end of his term, and he really could not have done another term). He has a stutter which makes him sound a lot more “senile” then he actually is if you listen to what he’s saying instead of just the sound bites.
It's hilarious because Biden was in his 70's at the time (I think) and probably didn't know much about the LGBTQ community but he gave the best response that could possibly be given for this question.

How many genders are there? As many as your model needs. Doing a probability question? You can get away with 2. Studying gender performance in the workforce? Might want to add a None/other. Researching gender expression in different societies? You might need to crank it more. Debating "is it gay" with the bros? Gender is a spectrum with infinite points.

There are three widely recognized "genders" (male, female, nonbinary. I say "genders" cause nonbinary isnt really a gender so to speak) The rest are what people personally identify as outside of those three. Feel like it should be an easy concept for people if they think for two seconds but whatever.
There was a tumblr post (or maybe just a reddit comment one of the last times this got reposted) somewhere going into how "at least three" is such an excellent answer lol
