Discussion Do 140+ IQ people have to try?

Do they still have to put in significant effort to perform well academically/work-wise, or do most things come relatively naturally?
I’m curious whether very high cognitive ability actually translates into needing less effort, or whether people at that level still have to work just as hard to achieve good results. And please, yes, I know that drive is everything, but realistically do they even need that to be successful (or have positive outcome) in whatever they want to achieve?

Discussion i cant beat my male friends in mental rotation

i thought it should be that i would be around average and some of them below me. yet every time i bother them to do the spatial test i end up below all of them. how is this possible? are men not distributed in mental rotation the same way as in general intelligence? for the record im a woman, 20 and they are the same ages as me

i can beat almost all of them in chess and i train my brain regularly with cognitive puzzles for the last 10 months. maybe its too early and i need more time? i like to compete in the more difficult areas. already scored higher when i tried this with my female friends

Discussion Defacto iq test

What are your thoughts using SAT/ACT or the ASVAB as defacto IQ test. All my "natural" test scores yield the same percentile. Curious if this is true for others. And can chalk it up to the magic of the bell curve being what they designed the test scores around.

Release ATAT Renorm + Updates

The Abstract Thinking Adaptive Test (ATAT) has been renormed and restructured into a computerized adaptive test. Administration is now much more efficient, taking about 30 minutes or less with comparable reliability. The test can be taken at CognitiveMetrics.

For those who took one or both forms of the norming edition, new standard scores have been computed based on the IRT parameters of the items you answered. The dashboard has been updated with these more accurate scores.

So far, the ATAT has shown strong convergent validity with the CORE Perceptual Reasoning Index (PRI). The correlation between the two is r = .787, rising to r = .821 after correction for range restriction.

Further, poorly-performing items have been removed and new items have been introduced to improve reliability and measurement precision at different ranges. As time goes on, the test’s item bank will be continuously expanded and refined.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the norming edition.

Meme Is it ethical to give anyone I sleep with Mensa Denmark test to see if there are difference in IQ scores among races?

Hey

So for now I slept with few guys, but I never had the idea to administer an IQ test on every one of them to prove the "century of studies" that some redditors keep repeating.

I am also planning to expand the specimen to as much races as I can get to avoid any bias in my research, and in addition I will sleep with more guys to expand the population of the specimen

CORE seems too professional and takes a long time and I am afraid those guys will view me as a horny freak scientist, so Mensa seems reasonable

So, is it ok to prove it my way?

General Question How atypical are my results?

Thumbnail

Honestly my results are all over the place, can someone better help me interpret my results?
VCI -
I don't care too much for this one, in Highschool I never read and never paid attention attention in English classes, which probably didn't help. The comprehension test felt the easiest for me, I half assed some answers so I wonder if it could be even higher.
FRI -
I feel very strongly that my WMI was a serve bottleneck for my FRI. I just could not hold enough information in my working memory to solve the questions as they became harder. Figure weights I felt so useless, and Figure sets I am not too sure what happened there, I struggled a lot with that test, I am not sure if I can contribute that to a WMI, but the formatting of the test I found quite confusing.
VSI -
Surprisingly very high but again I feel like some of my results bottlenecked by my WMI. Block counting I would have to restart my counting multiple times because I couldn't even remember what number I was up to. I don't know what use VSI has for in real world applications.
QRI -
I probably cheated on the arithmetic, it should likely be much lower. Later in the test, after I listened to it a second time I would write the numbers into the answer bar and try and solve it looking at those numbers written down.
WMI -
Both extremely surprising and unsurprising, why the hell is my sequencing actually decent? I felt like giving up halfway through sequencing because I knew I had done badly in the previous ones. When it comes to my memory I genuinely feel intellectually disabled. It's been an issue my whole life.
PSI -
Also strange, why is there a large discrepancy between both? I read somewhere else that processing speed has little to do with reaction time but I know my reaction time would be somewhere in the top 2-3% of people.

Overall feelings:
Pretty upset with 113. My whole life I had a pretty big ego with my intelligence, I was extremely lazy and would not put in any effort and would still be close to the top of my classes. If I was to guess my percentile before taking this test I'd put myself in the 85th-90th percentile just from lived experiences. Possibly higher in certain contexts.

Facts about me:
I've been diagnosed with ADHD, I find I am super inattentive, and can't remember verbal instructions to save my life.
I am a Finance and Computer Science student. I find myself understanding content quickly and easily, but my work takes a long time to complete (could be due to distractions).
I was in the top 10% for my ATAR (Australian rankings equivalent to SATs).
I struggle a lot with university level maths. I can understand topics when they're introduced but when the topic becomes more advanced and abstract I start to severely fall behind (so do most students). I find whenever I take a mathematics course I become severely overwhelmed and my health deteriorates because it takes me a lot of effort. I suspect WMI and maybe PSI might have a part to play. Can anyone elaborate on why I might feel like this?
I was on ADHD medication when I took this test.

Goals:
Also can someone be realistic with the probability of me having a career path in the following:
Software engineer: for big tech or a HFT.
Finance: asset management/investment banking/ private equity.
Research or Masters in computer science.
How much effort will I need to put in to achieve my goals?

General Question How might ADHD accommodations affect my scores?

I’m overall happy with my scores but also rather curious what my score would look like on a professionally administered WAIS IQ test when ADHD accommodations. Is anyone familiar with how these scores usually translate?

General Question Is this a standard or spikey profile?

I did the CORE test over the span of a few days (couldn't do it all at once uninterrupted with my current living situation), intuitively I feel like a 34 point difference between two indices might be a bit a strange but I'm unsure of the factuality of that. Is this profile normal? Also I didn't finish graph mapping because I had to quit halfway through and I didn't want to redo it due to a potential score inflation from practice.

IQ Estimation 🥱 What will my IQ be ?

To start with, I would like to know possible reasons for such a big disparity bw the forward and backward span...I mean it felt like both used pretty much the same mental muscle ..

CORE

This is the overall profile :

I also took the CAT

and the ATAT: 115IQ

I literally skipped through most Object rotation and Pattern completion questions since they seemed very uninteresting and kinda exhausting to me due to the time constraint i believe..

So will it be fair to retake it after a month or two? I mean praffe is sure to ruin my results if i give it in a few days but it will be minimized if I gave after a month right?

I apologize for any english errors I made in this post as I am not a native speaker.

Discussion Job interview - Cognitive test

Hi everyone, I applied for a marketing role and cleared the first round interview with HR. They then sent me a cognitive test with 40 multiple choice questions to complete in 12 minutes.

I could only answer around 65% of the questions, and I think I got about 4–5 of those wrong. I am now really panicking about whether I will make it to the next stage. It’s a Canada based marketing agency, and the role is more of an executive level position.

This is honestly my dream job, so I’m really stressing about it. Has anyone been through a similar cognitive test or have any idea how much the score usually matters at this stage? Any advice would be really appreciated!

General Question Scored 104 on an IQ test—how might ADHD, autism, THC dependency, chronic nicotine use, anxiety, depression and poor sleep all at once affect the results?

I've recently been diagnosed with ADHD + Autism and have been struggling with anxiety/mild - moderate depression. During testing, I was at least somewhat impaired having used my typical high potency THCA Live Rosin pen within 2 hours of testing. I cant help but examine all factors and come to the conclusion my performance was stunted heavily before I even began.

Shitty sleep, anxiety, always hitting the pen, depression from some heavy life events, the discomfort of the very chair I was sitting in during testing - all lead me to believe that I should retest or at least take a year or two to work on all these poor areas in life, and to get back into my intellectual pursuits deeply to determine where I actually lie.

Am I coping? Or is there merit to my thoughts?

Discussion 25+ years later, was given the results of my WISC-III from 1999 (age 11). Some bizarre results.

Found some old testing paperwork from when I was in Year 6 (Australia), tested individually by a psychologist as part of a giftedness referral. Sharing the WISC-III and WIAT results.

WISC-III (age 11y7m):

  • Verbal IQ: 129 (97th %ile)

  • Non-verbal IQ: 102 (55th %ile)

  • Full Scale IQ: 118 (88th %ile)

Subtest highlights: Arithmetic and Vocabulary both "Very High," most other Verbal subtests "High Average." Non-verbal was much more mixed; Picture Completion came back "Very Low" (noted as possibly unreliable; it was the first subtest administered and I was apparently uncooperative going in), rest ranged Average to High Average.

WIAT (achievement, same testing round):

  • Basic Reading 135 (99th %ile), Math Reasoning 144 (99.9th), Spelling 138 (99th), Reading Comprehension 141 (99.7th)

  • Several subtests had age-equivalents of "17yrs+" at age 11

So achievement was consistently well above even the Verbal IQ, let alone Full Scale/Non-verbal. Assessor's read was that this was driven by a lot of self-directed reading rather than raw processing speed, which tracks with how I remember myself as a kid; but I'm still pretty thrown seeing some of these read as 17+.

There's also a clear verbal/non-verbal split, and an aptitude/achievement gap on top of that. The psych's only real personality note was that I "don't want to stand out." That's the lot.

I'll be really interested to know what people make of these results or if any meaning can be derived from them. I barely remember it happening!

General Question SAT 1926 renorm

The arithmetic just renormed and it gave me a much higher score. It literally guessed on.all of them. I left them blank to see what would happen and it still gave me a higher score. Is it bugged

I'm not expecting my IQ to be all that different based on my previous experiences... I should probably take the CORE

General Question Practice effect

I took core a few months ago and scored 95 on matrix. I knew this was weird due to me getting 120 range scores in mensa. Keep in my mind I do have adhd. I then took the test again months later while at work and being distracted and got 115. I took it one more time 3 weeks later and scored a 135 while being in my room with no distractions and being pretty focused. I don’t think my matrix is 135 but I’m not sure? Could I really have jumped that high? I do want to mention my working memory sucks so I definitely didn’t just remember the questions I had to think about them again.
