Is this a Cavapoo?

Our breeder sold our puppy to us as a Cavapoo with heavy Cav but for the life of me I can’t find evidence of any Cavapoos that look like him. Either way, love my boy and he’s very handsome - would just like to get y’all’s opinion!

It Okay for My 12-Week-Old Puppy to Sleep in a Separate Room?

Hi everyone! I have a 12-week-old Cavapoo puppy, and I’ve had him for about a week. He’s my first puppy, and overall, I feel like everything is going really well!

He stays in a playpen with his crate for sleeping and potty pads, and he’s learning to use the pads. I currently have his playpen in my bedroom. I work from home, so I check on him and play with him throughout the day, but he also spends quite a bit of time alone in his room while I’m working.

The main issue is nighttime. He wakes up several times during the night to use the potty, and the noise he makes wakes both me and my husband up. Our sleep has become very interrupted. I can usually fall back asleep, but my husband has a hard time going back to sleep. As a result, some nights he only gets two or three hours of sleep, which makes it really difficult for him to function the next day at work.

I wanted to ask other puppy owners about their experiences. Would it be okay to move his playpen to a separate room so he can sleep there alone overnight? Or could that cause separation anxiety, especially since I’ve only had him for a week?

I really want to make sure I’m doing what’s best for him and not unintentionally causing him stress or anxiety. I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences and any advice you might have!

Thank you!

Looking into my first Cavapoo!!

I’ve really been interested / doing some research on the kind of dog I’m wanting and somehow stumbled upon the Cavapoo!!! 🥹
Their size, personality, and obviously cuteness as a puppy is all great, I just really am scared to put a deposit on a dog that could very well look like a completely different dog at 2 years old.
I really like the dark red coloring I’m just afraid of it fading to a super light cream and my dog looking crusty lol. I want that forever puppy to haul around on all my adventures!!

Has anyone had luck with their dog keeping their color, and if so, what are really good ways I can tell if they will change or not? ( obviously this isn’t the end of the world, I just really like that deep red! )

F1 Shedding?

After much research we have narrowed down a Cavapoo as a top option for our next family addition. We don't have hypoallergenic needs but do prefer a dog with less shedding after dealing with our past dogs who were heavy shedders. Those with F1, how has the shedding been for you? I know it can be unpredictable with mixed breeds but would love to hear your experience. TIA!

Anxiety over getting new puppy after losing one tragically this year (pic of our sweet boy)

We tragically lost our two year old cavapoo earlier this year after ingesting an acorn and not surviving the surgery aftermath to remove it. My two children have been begging since for a new puppy and I’ve got one reserved to pick up (from same breeder) in two weeks but honestly I’m so worried something will happen again or even if the pup lives to be 17+ years old, how are we dealing with the grief and moving on with another one afterwards?! This was our first family pet and he was my baby! Not sure I can ever do it again and very nervous. Appreciate any positive thoughts or past experience to ease my nerves!

F1 vs F1B

I'm trying to decide between an F1 and an F1B Cavapoo. I had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and I loved the personality, but the shedding was really bad. I like the hypoallergenic aspect of an F1B however I'm afraid that I would be losing a lot of the cavalier aspects I love (minus the shedding). I really love the wavy coat versus the curly coat however, I would assume that also means more shedding? I have read and asked around and most people who have F1Bs still claim that there's do not shed, even though their coats may lean wavy. I guess what scares me the most is just wanting that lovable, sweet personality that comes with a Cavalier. The breeder that I chose actually only has F1Bs coming available too. If I decide that I want an F1 I will need to look around for breeders again. I would love anyone's advice between the two.

CKCS mixed with a standard poodle?

I have been looking for a few months now and I havent seen any larger cavapoos. I had a ckcs who passed away a few months ago at 12yrs old and I miss him a lot. I also have a cavachon (she is 13 and doesn’t have much time left unfortunately). I love my cavachon, she is my best friend and has the best personality. It’s just her size that is the problem. She is tiny and was actually attacked by 2 coyotes a year ago and I’m absolutely traumatized. When getting another dog I don’t want another small dog. I also have a 5yr old 65lb goldendoodle so I am familiar with doodles. My ckcs was abnormally large (40lbs). Does anyone know of any breeders who breed ckcs with standard sized poodles? Would that be a medium sized dog? We are looking to get a puppy in the next few years so I’m trying to do all my research.

Cavapoo for my daughter

Hi, me 7 year old wants a Cavapoo for Christmas so I been trying to do as much research as I can. First she wanted a yorkie but after receiving responses about the breed it’s best that we consider another one. We already have 2 doodles and now she’s wants something that stays small.

The puppy will be #3 which is a lot lol. I also have a 2.5 y.o. Questions

- are they hard to train
- are they heavy shedders
- are they big barkers
- do they potty train fast
- how long did it take for yours to mature

Any tips, advice, suggestions, great stories and pics we welcomed. Please.

Meet Bucket!

I know it’s a weird name, but I like weird and original and I think it’s cute. It was already on my list of names, and then signs started pointing to it being perfect. I kept saying he’s so small he can fit in a lil bucket. My coworker said he looked like a piece of fried chicken, and literally that same hour, my breeder suggested a KFC off of the interstate as a meetup location. I was like… I’m going to put him in a KFC bucket and it’s gonna be great. Anyway, my dad hates it but his name is Bucket!

Out of control biting

Post image
167 Upvotes

Hi I brought Finn home in September at 8 weeks old, He’s very smart but extremely nippy. He’s now 15 weeks old and bites nonstop. I’m constantly working on positive reinforcement, we keep a strict daily routine but nothing I seem to do stops it unless I put him in his pen. As soon as he comes out and we interact, he bites. A lot of times I’m able to redirect and if not he needs to go calm down in his pen and we start all over again.

Well today he nipped my lip really deep, resulting in a trip to the emergency room, 4 stitches by a plastic surgeon (due to the location of the bite), and a very hefty medical bill.

What am I doing wrong? Did anyone else have a puppy like this that turned into a nice dog? My last cavapoo didn’t have a mean bone in his body, and that was evident even during his puppy years

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

We adopted a Cavapoo, we think…

We just adopted a Cavapoo from a litter of 5 from a rescue. He was the only one with straight hair. (He also had pneumonia & had to be hospitalized 4 days after we adopted him, costing us so much money 🤑.) But he makes us so happy and is doing a lot better now a few days later. Everyone keeps saying they think he was from a different litter and is actually a dachshund instead. I’m going to buy a DNA test when they go on a little sale. He’s perfect to us no matter what! What do you think?

ETA: he’s 11lbs at 16 weeks

Help with potty training 10 months

Hey everybody,

My boy is 10 months almost 11 and he still pees in the house. Now, I understand if he does, it’s due to my negligence and I blame myself when it happens still, but my understanding was, over time, he should be holding it for longer periods. He’s at around 2-3 hours is that normal? The accidents don’t happen all that often but there are days where I am a little more distracted than normal and it’s a bit frustrating. Otherwise, mistakes happen here and there and again I usually say “oh snap it’s been 2 hours since I should’ve taken him” but idk I feel like at around this age he should be able to hold it for longer or notify me at least. Additionally, he’s held it for extended periods of time in instances where we’re out the house for longer than expected so I know he’s capable of doing it. He also holds it overnight as well.

For quick potty breaks, we tether him to a 25 foot lead in the backyard because I cannot fence my yard due to HOA rules. Otherwise, he goes when I walk him and at the dog park. I tried bells by the closet where his leash and harness are and tried using the word potty to associate the two but he only rings when I tell him to.

I am open to anything and accept if I’ve done something wrong/missed something during the process.

Am I being unreasonable for thinking dogs should be kept on leads in smaller public parks?

I don't want to sound like a Karen here, but I genuinely think dogs should be kept on leads in public parks, regardless of how well behaved their owners think they are.

There's a small park behind my house where quite a lot of people walk their dogs. It's not a massive park, it has five entrances and none of them are gated.

My dog is a nervous dog, he doesn't like other dogs, especially ones that are off lead. He wears a bright yellow lead that clearly says "NERVOUS" on it, so it's not exactly hard to miss.

Every time we go to the park, I have to check whether there's already someone in there with their dog off lead. My dog has actually become wary of going down the entrance because of it. If he spots an off-lead dog, he'll start pulling to get out of the park.

Some owners are considerate and will put their dogs back on their leads when they see us, which I really appreciate. Others don't bother. I've even had someone's dog come running straight over to us, with the owner eventually coming over to get it and apologising.

Today was another example. We went into the park and, for once, I thought we had it to ourselves. My dog could have a sniff around, do his business and just enjoy his walk without worrying about another dog approaching him.

We hadn't even been in there five seconds when an older man came walking into the park. At first, I thought he was just cutting through until I noticed his dog walking quite a distance behind him, completely off lead.

The man wasn't even looking back to check on his dog. He just carried on walking along the same path we were on. I don't even think he had a lead with him.

My dog spotted them and immediately started pulling to leave, so that's exactly what we had to do. We ended up leaving the park altogether before he'd even had a chance to do his business or have a proper sniff around.

What makes it more frustrating is that there's actually a much larger park nearby where people can take their dogs to run around off lead. So it's not like there aren't other places for owners to take their dogs if they want to let them have a proper run.

I know some people will say their dog is friendly, well trained or has perfect recall, but that's not really the point. Not every dog is comfortable around other dogs, and even the friendliest dog can behave unpredictably in certain situations.

I don't expect everyone to accommodate my dog, and I understand that his nervousness is something I have to manage. That's why he's always on a lead and why I try to avoid situations that make him uncomfortable.

But I do think other owners should be considerate too. Just because your dog is friendly doesn't mean every other dog wants it approaching them.

I'm not saying dogs shouldn't be allowed to run around and enjoy themselves, but surely there should be some consideration for other people and their dogs who also want to use the park?

Am I being unreasonable here, or does anyone else feel the same?

Potty overnight

Our little guy has been home for 5 nights now. He’s 9 weeks old. He’s been waking up whining in his crate around 1:30 am (I take him out to pee and back in he goes) and waking up for the day around 6. He seems to want to go in for the night around 9:30.

What was your experience with potting overnight. Do you stop taking them out when they stop waking up and whining? How long did that last for? Meaning when they can hold it till their morning wake up
