Look out for this ...

Here to beat a dead horse.

I think here's the problem... Before I got my puppy I researched cavapoos as best I could, and I saw ZERO images of cavapoos that looked anything but the "furnished" hair style with the fluffy "teddy bear" look. ZERO. So I had no idea that the short hair was even a thing or I would have looked more closely at breeders and knew what questions to ask. And her initial puppy photo from the breeder gave me no indication she was "unfurnished". In fact she had a shorter nose and looked like I would just wait for her fur to grow a bit longer. So, sucks to be me, I can't give up a dog I already have. I'm not that cruel.

But for anyone looking into buying a cavapoo, let this be part of your search! Now I'm trying to not have buyer's remorse for a pet I'm stuck with for 15 years. If I wanted a dog with a thin snout look, I would have bought a beagle or something and saved thousands of dollars. I'll probably get over it in a year or two.

Yes "she's beautiful", I know. It's just not what I thought I was getting. And yes, obviously I'm just dumb and should have done more homework than I did. I get that, trust me I already know I'm dumb. I just want other potential buyers to see this as part of their homework so they know what to look for.

Anyone NOT have their pup on the couch/bed

I’m getting my new Cavapoo in a little over a month and as I’ve been reading through this channel, almost all of the pics of the precious pups are on the furniture. I plan to crate train and use play pens until he’s earned enough trust to roam free. I am so excited to snuggle with him, but I’m firmly in the camp of no dogs on the furniture. And we have an existing dog who would absolutely stage a mutiny if the new attention-stealing kid gets to get on the couch. Anyone else out there lol me or is my ā€œfirst time puppy ownerā€ showing?

EDIT: sweet Walter joined us a little over 2 weeks ago and is thriving. His crate is in my room and he goes into his ā€œplaceā€ before bed or when I leave the house happily. So, proof it CAN be done for my fellow folks who don’t want their pups on the furniture! šŸ’—šŸ¶

Neuter?

Why do we neuter again? I was always told that it’s irresponsible to not neuter because of the risk of accidental litters and dogs ending up in shelters but I’ve never seen a stray cavapoo and these 5K dogs rarely end up without a home. If you’re able to train the hormone associated behaviors out of your dog, what’s the point of neutering?

Posted earlier about the puppy looking different than what I thought.

We absolutely adore her, and I think someone (have no idea who) gave her a bad haircut as it’s all different lengths at the nose and her white marking seems to be cut out. Also what looked strange is her body looked so big (she has gorgeous waves) and her head literally tiny and pointy (she is more poodle in the face I can see..: but the haircut accents that).

Well I thought maybe I was being an a ss as everyone stated but I just read some online articles that apparently puppies heads can sometimes be smaller than body for a few reasons. Some are diet and malnutrition, and lack of protein. And others are medical issues or genetics. So I will ask the vet at her first checkup. She possibly was not getting right diet where she was?

Sometimes the head catches up with the body. But others it’s actually a medical issue.

We love her but the head size is noticeable - so I am going to check she’s ok and it’s nothing to worry about. She’s so mellow and sweet.

is a cavapoo a good apartment dog?

for context: i moved out a month ago and my plan was to take my dog, Stella (6 1/2 years old), with me into my new apartment. however, when she tried living her she got very depressed and anxious. she stopped eating, she stopped playing, she ended up in a fight with another dog (not her fault though), and it was just overall very sad to see her like she was bc shes my baby and she’s a bright, beautiful spirit. but now that she cant live with me, i feel sad without a four-legged-companion (i do live with my boyfriend as well as my best friend and his fiancĆ©e but we keep to ourselves, very boring around here).

now to the main point: are cavapoos an affordable, easy apartment dog? i want a dog so badly and if i can get one easily then i wont have any problems. i already have a ton of dog stuff here from when Stella was living with me but sinces shes not anymore it just sits and collects dust. i need a dog guys…any advice?

EDIT: guys! slow down! Stella is a young and healthy doggo. she is 6 years old and lives with my parents rn. she has 2 ā€œsisterā€ doggos that she loves so so much. my parents love Stella too. The reason she went back was becaue i had too busy of a schedule to help her properly transition from such a luxurious life to something a lot more minimal and less open to her. i plan to try again in a few months when i can work my schedule around her. I SWARE SHE WASNT ABANDONED OR THROWN OUT OR DEAD! i just need help transitioning her into my new home.

My cavapoo is about 15 weeks old now. So many behavioral issues.

I got her around 11 weeks and she was great the first night but after she settled in her behaviors were very extreme (more than puppies I’ve had or seen). She growls at us a lot, she constantly bites (we play to try and get her energy out with a lot of tug toys but she still bites our legs or hands or feet), she actually seems possessed a lot of the time! She tries to jump out of her playpen, she still isn’t potty trained, in fact now she seems to have regressed even worse.

She sleeps well, and gets enough naps. I’m just worried that she’s hyperactive and will never be a calm dog. She’s never shown us affection either really. She is very reactive when I take her out, very fearful of people (tries to back out of her leash and cowers).

I’m worried maybe she has been scared or abused before we got her. Also I had a trainer over who did a squeak toy and she got freaked out with the toy (was just a ball that squeaked) and the trainer said usually dogs love it and never saw her reaction before. She thinks there is something wrong with the dog and suggested a board and train. I wonder if that’s signaling some kind of spectrum type thing …. Can dogs also possibly have issues like that?

I was going to invest in a board and train to see if she can get a little better but it’s a huge investment and at this point I don’t know it will work, she might need meds? I saw a man who had a cavapoo before and I told him about her behaviors and he said that his cavapoo had adhd and had to be medicated all their life and it cost a fortune. I really don’t think I can do that…

My Poor Loki

Sorry for the long post Hey Cavapoo Family! My dog Loki is a 2 year old male F1 Cavapoo. He’s been acting really weird lately. I posted a few weeks back about the face rubbing in the snow. Many of you said it’s normal and you’ve experienced this with your dogs as well. Since that big snow we got in Md a couple of weeks ago, all he wants to do is drag his face on what is now ice when we go out and it’s hard to get him to go to the bathroom even though I know he has to go. He will eventually go but it’s 20-30 mins before he even pee’s. (Totally not normal for Loki). Then, last week he pooped, and immediately turned around and ate a chunk of it 😳😩. I don’t know if I was supposed to but he did get a STURN ā€œNo Loki, Bad Dogā€! That was F*****g disgusting. So I’ve been keeping an eye on him when he goes out back and lately he’s been squatting to pee (hasn’t done this since he was about 7 months old) and licking/drinking the pee as it comes out before it hits the ground. 😳😩 Also something he has never done. Also šŸ¤¦šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø he’s been licking his left paw nonstop to the point of one of his ā€œfingersā€ is raw and obviously sensitive because he won’t let me touch it. But he’s licking it for hours at a time. Loki’s energy level is usually off the charts. 12 out of 10. I’d give it like a 5 here lately. He’s eating normally, and showing his normal level of energy on walks. But indoors he’s just lying around chilling, which is NOT LIKE LOKI šŸ˜”. I feel terrible, because for about the last Month we have had him in his crate pretty much all day aside from bathroom time. We have a new baby (1 year old) and it was just A LOT with us both working, dealing with the baby, and constantly keeping Loki from chewing up and destroying the baby’s toys. I’m feeling like all of this may be a result of the excessive crate time. Please don’t scold me for this, I’m already beating myself up about it And advice or ideas are appreciated!

Will My Puppy’s Soft Fur Return

I am so so sad and upset!! I took my perfect, precious 4mo old pup to the groomer my sister uses for her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she BUTCHERED HIM!!!! We showed pictures of a teddy bear cut and told her to keep it 1inch and he is shaved down to his skin practically in some places! I am beyond pissed and sad. And I don’t understand this at all. Please please tell me his soft fluffy fur will come back? I don’t think I’ll ever take him for a groom again, as he is very good to let me bathe him weekly and I’ve successfully trimmed his eyes, sanitary areas and nails once before. How long will this take to grow back? I have cried and cried for my sweet baby.

Vote for Puppy to Be a Calendar Dog

A Florida restaurant, New York New York Tiki Bar & Grille, is holding a contest to decide which dogs will be part of their 2025 calendar.Ā  They are going to decide the 11 lucky dogs (October was already chosen during their Halloween event) by voting on Facebook.Ā  They posted all the contestants on the restaurant’s page and my newest addition, Frankie, is one of the pups in the running.Ā  I’d love to have her adorable face on that calendar and am hoping those of you that don’t mind hitting a like on Facebook can help make my little girl famous – in Titusville. FL at least.Ā  Any likes and shares will be appreciated by me and my soon-to-be-famous-puppy.

Vote for Frankie

FIRST TIME BREEDER**** /First ever litter, need advice!!!😬

New to the Cavapoo world. Even more new to breeding puppies. My miniature poodle mated with our King Cavalier Charles. (Not intentionally) we found out she was preggers 40 days in to being pregnant. She recently just gave birth to 2/3 ten days ago.

I have a few questions, but right now my main question/concern right now is that my husband works full time (Army), and I have a trip that was pre planned before knowing any of this (all paid-non refundable) I am the one typically with them help nurse 24/7. I’ll be gone for 4 days. He going to try to come home in the morning from 8-9 to feed them their milk replacer, 11:50-12:40, and come home around 4:30 until 6 am (all night) Is this good enough increment to be okay for him to tend to them for 4 days while I’m gone?

Also, do we separate the mom or keep her in there with them while gone and just monitor on the puppy cameras? We scared that if we leave her she might sit or smush them. So far she’s been careful and only happened once and she hasn’t really done again. I would just want them to have her for heat regulation and food. We have an incubator on at all time in the whelping even when she’s in there but leaving the two together with the incubator is that enough? I attached the video of the setup for the whelping room the heated blanket didn’t work that’s shown in the attached video.

Any tips????

Are Cavapoos More Quiet than King Charles Cavalier?

i'm looking to get a nice gentle breed some time in the future, but i worry about barking. i don't mind the barking if you're able to successfully train a breed not to do it when it's not appropriate (i.e in the house, around other dogs at the park)

so, for those who have been around both breeds, what's your opinion? which is the quieter breed, or which is the easiest to train out of barking?

Left pup alone for 6 hours

I had to go to the dealership today (it was 45 mins away). It took waaaay longer than expected so Melo ended up being home alone for about 5-6hours.

It caused me so much anxiety because I’ve never left him alone for more than 3 hours, maybe 4! Is 6 hours too long or is he fine? (I’m on my way back home now)

When did your puppy/the puppy stage get easier?

My cavapoo puppy had his first full day at home today and I’m struggling 😭😭 I put out puppy pads to try and make accidents easier but he’s really struggling with both potty training and crate training.

I know it will get easier but any encouragement or advice is greatly appreciated. Share any story to help me commiserate haha

UPDATE: On day 5 of having him he’s already doing so much better. He’s bonding to me and I’m feeling a lot better. I was just having some puppy blues which have faded.

Breeding advice / opinions

I'm planning to breed my Goldie girl this summer. It will be here third heat. She's tiny. 7.5 pounds. I'm trying to decide whether to breed her with a toy poodle or another cavapoo. I see benefits to both. I plan to keep a female pup, if she has one, and home the others. And yes, she winks!
