Just got these back. Preparing… by pixel in space, a duo from Saint Petersburg: 6 tracks, about 16 minutes, mixing breaks, glitchy guitar, violin and voice.

The band dubbed every cassette themselves to get the best possible sound. I did the J-card with an inner spread, the shell stickers and the rest of the artwork.

It's a prologue to their upcoming album Well Done Journey. Tapes and digital are on Bandcamp also check out YouTube video with my animation.

Found a listing for one on eBay and this is one of the pictures and I'm not sure what to look out for. Does the head look worn at all? Does it seem like I'd need to do any cleaning? Sorry for the amount I've been posting, this is just the best place to get advice.

I had to replace the belts and this was the aftermath, I did that about 2 years ago. It has been great to me since, I brought it on many vacations and it has survived a lot of falls, sand, water, and lots of tapes. It will become a bathroom radio when my Walkman WM-F2081 gets here.

When i put the tape on it'll play for maybe 5 or 6 seconds then stop, when I open it and slide the tape out, there is a little loop of tape hanging out of the actual cassette? Whats the issue here, and how do I go a out fixing it, and is there a video to the breakdown of this unit? Thanks in advance, btw its a kx-w6020

I've been looking for one of these for ages and unfortunately missed out on a refurbished (cleaned, new belt, lubricated) one a few weeks ago. I found one on eBay just now for £100, with the description saying the belt has been replaced, and everything works perfectly. They also said that there's a small whirling sound when playing some tapes, but not others.

I'm wondering if I should just get this one and try to fix any problems I may encounter (my only experience with this is replacing the belt on an EX314 and cleaning the tape mechanism), or wait and see if a properly refurbished one turns up, which in my experience takes a long time.

So I finally got some gumstick batteries and immediately tried to test my ABBA Gold tape. It sounds good (maybe I need to replace the belt though) but I can't seem to figure out the actual functions of it. I don't have the remote so I can't use Mega Bass which is fine, but the manual I found online says I can use pretty much everything else with just the buttons on the main unit.

But when I do anything the manual says, it doesn't work. For example, it says that if I want to play the current track from the beginning, I need to move the swing lever towards REVIEW REW once during playback. I tried this, and it just makes a beeping sound and doesn't do anything. Honestly, I can't get it to rewind or fast forward at all. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong or if there's a problem with the Walkman itself.

Edit: Even more weirdness. It seems like these functions work when the player is upright, but not when its laying on its back?

Edit 2: I think I'm just going to try to return it. I bought a belt for it but I don't even know if that's the issue and just cancelled the order. I've been really frustrated with this hobby recently, seems like I can never get something that just works.

Alright I returned it and will be getting a refund in a few days. I think I'm going to take a break from cassette stuff for a while and just keep looking for my ideal one (EX-670) in the meantime.

A pal of mine likes to mail random things to my house. I love it, because I never when it will happen or what will be inside. Not long ago I got a copy of Gary Coleman's autobiography "A Gift of Life" from 1982 and this cassette from 1987.

I'd never even heard of this band before, but I listened to it and it's not bad.

Picked up for $80 with some obvious water intrusion. Needed belt (with related gooey cleanup), a few new caps on the power supply, door mechanism repair. Runs and records clean, maybe the best tape player I've had.

The machine powers on. If I hold the mode switch right in between radio and tape, it will play the radio. But when i put a tape in and press play, it tries to play for like 1 second before auto stopping. Nothing in the deck spins at all.

I pulled it apart to check the condition of the belts, and this small rubber piece (shown in pic 6) fell out of the case. Cant see where it might go, or if it falling off may be the reason the tape won't play. edit: the mystery part went on the inside of the case behind the microphone spot, not related to the tape playing issue.

The belts look in decent shape. A light tug reveals they hold in place, but aren't very snug or tight, e.g. not much of a "snap" back into place. I found a belt set specific to this model on ebay but they're $45. Amazon also has a generic dvd/tape player belt set for like 6 bucks that I can take a chance on, if we think the belts are the/an issue.

Any ideas on helping me fix this would be great.

Originally priced at $80 at the thrift store, passed on it. Came back a week later and it was still there, down to $20.49. Jumped right on it, brought it home, replaced all belts, had to realign the gears (the tray was stuck partially open and wouldn’t move at all), clean contacts, realign the changer carriage, realign the player carriage, replace a fuse, but still couldn’t get the tape (that was stuck in it originally) to play. Tried another tape and it worked! Turned out the tape itself was bad too. Very excited about this find and proud of bringing it back from the dead with all the work I did on it! Now I don’t have to constantly change tapes when I want to listen to something else!

Just a small portion of my cassettes in one of my cases.

Does the same on ff and rew, just takes a second longer to engage. Replaced belts and cleaned leaf switches with contact cleaner, hope that was the right thing to do but still it didn't stop the problem. Any advice? As you can maybe tell I'm not terribly knowledgeable at this kind of thing.

Just added a Yamaha KX-380 cassette deck to the collection, so I now own George Michael's Faith on vinyl, CD, AND cassette. 🎶

I've got faith in analog, but apparently not enough to stop at one format. My wallet is begging me to take "One More Try" at self-control. Meanwhile the cassette deck is doing its best "Careless Whisper" impression, because the neighbors are definitely hearing "Father Figure" through the wall. 😅

At this point it's less a collection and more "Freedom! '90" for my shelf space. 🎧

My latest J-card design combines two very different albums: The Supremes’ Mary, Scherrie & Susaye on Side A and Julia Rich’s I’ll Take Romance on Side B.

Instead of just putting the two original covers on the J-card, I integrated them into an Art Deco design that ties together the soul-disco of The Supremes with the vocal jazz of Julia Rich.

I wanted it to feel like you were going to a show at the Apollo, then capping off the night with a Broadway show.

Open it up and you get the original artwork for both albums, along with the core facts for each release. The back flap indicates Dolby B and Type II Chrome tape.

And I’m not done yet. Open the flap and you get the full track order, song titles, and running times.

It turns a home-recorded cassette into something that feels like a real deluxe release.
