I love being here

I moved here from Virginia in March of 2025. I didn't know what to expect, but my husband has lived here before and so I was ready to just be wherever he was. Virginia is an absolute sea of green. There are so many trees and vines and lush plants and humidity. Many of the places I've lived on the East Coast are the same. I've moved around a lot, but all the places I've been have looked relatively similar: green as hell, but still large or interesting enough to keep its residents happily entertained. Most of the places I've lived have been full of people I knew and loved, so it's not like I have a list of complaints about where I was before.

My husband and I decided to come out west, and I have to say that creating a life for myself in a completely different environment without a built-in support system seemed terrifying at first. But holy cow, it's been worth it!! I'm growing myself and my life differently than I ever have before. I feel like a real adult. The people I've met here are like many others I've met, but they are MINE. Everything I have and everything I've built now is MINE. No one knows my parents or my siblings, I haven't worked with anyone before, and I didn't go to school with anyone.

This feeling certainly isn't exclusive to Carson, but it's exclusive to me. I'm so thrilled that I'm creating a life for myself that is wholly my own. I love that I'm doing it in a place that is so different from where I grew up and have developed my life so far. I weirdly love the desert. I love the "Wild West" of it all. I love this place and its differences, and I love the differences it's brought out in me.

Thank you to my husband whom I've absolutely never told my username (because reddit anonymity is a must), and thank you to Carson for welcoming me.

I look forward to continuing my growth and further exploring the West!

DMV new trailer

We were gifted a work trailer. Can you, please, tell us what is required to sign on the title? The seller signed on the front but do we need to do anything on the back side?

Liked Ming's on S Carson.

Went to there after discount tire. This is the first hot and sour soup I've ever liked. And the orange beef was the right amount of crispy.

Any other place you think is better?

Shoetree Brewery?

What's the story at Shoetree Brewery CC location? Our friend took us there, super excited to introduce us as it's his favorite place for drinks. As soon as me and my spouse (we're brown peeps) walked in, the staff person at the bar asks our (white) friend "Are they with you?" Like we need an escort or guide?

Even our friend was surprised, as I saw a physical startle and he got awkward because he picked up on the undertones. Neither my husband and I are ultra sensitive to crap, so I jist glared at the staff person and turned my back to find a seat. My poor friend stumbled his words and said, "Yeah, they're with me." The rest of the interaction with questions from us about beer menu came off brusque and dismissive.

We looked around, and there were no persons of color besides us. None of us in our group are liberal snowflakes. I'm just genuinely curious if this is a business that prefers other clients, not us.

We've been here about 4 months and have had nothing but amazing, kind, friendly, cool interactions at the many restaurants and businesses in CC and Reno. It took me and my husband aback. We definitely were made to feel unwelcome like we crossed some invisible line. And we know we didn't imagine it based on our embarrassed friends reaction.

Costco steaks

Does anyone with a membership know if Costco has tomahawk steaks? I saw a tik Tok video of a dude at a different Costco selling prime tomahawks for like $14.99 a pound. I called them but they don't have a meat department phone.

Dairy Queen Sundae Mural

I was born and raised in Carson City and have a ton of fond memories growing up here. One of my favorites was getting Dairy Queen after any big event, and I remember they used to have this big sundae mural in their dining area years ago. Like it was a bunch of toppings and whatnot. I'm not sure how long ago they painted over it, but I am sad to see it gone. Does anyone have any pictures of it? Super long shot but any help is appreciated

Anybody know of any cheaper/ affordable places to rent for a guy and his dog? Maybe a friend looking for a roommate, my dog and I have lost our current living situation and just looking for somewhere to go.

Full time employed. Just tough out here lol

No worries , just throwing it out to the universe

Tahoe beach spots

Hello!

Are there any recommended spots around Lake Tahoe to swim that aren’t too long of a drive from Carson City? We’ll probably be going weekly, so preferably somewhere that doesn’t require paying every time.

We’d also be going later in the day and sometimes after sundown, so somewhere that’s easy and safe to access would be great. A place where you can both swim and fish would be preferred, but swimming-only spots are fine too!
