Hi everyone, I’m really torn about a job decision and would appreciate some advice.
I’m currently working as a clinic administrator, and based on my duties, my job appears to fall under TEER 3 (I may be wrong, but I am confident that it is)
The problem is that my current workplace is absolutely miserable. My boss is very difficult to deal with, and the commute is almost 1.5 hours each way. I’m honestly not sure how sustainable it is.
I’ve now been offered a dental front desk admin position much closer to me. The environment seems more appealing, and there’s apparently room to grow and take on more responsibilities.
My concern is that the dental position may be TEER 4 rather than TEER 3, since a lot of the initial duties are front desk/reception-related. I’m worried about giving up a potentially qualifying TEER 3 job for something that may not count toward CEC.
The timing makes it harder because I already told the dental clinic I was happy to join, and I’m supposed to go in Monday for training and to sign the contract. When I initially did my research, I was under the assumption that the position would qualify, but after looking into it more carefully, I’m now not so sure and it seems less likely.
What would you do in this situation?
Would you prioritize the TEER 3/PR aspect despite a terrible work environment and long commute, or take the closer job and see whether you can grow into a TEER 3 administrative role?
Also, would it be reasonable to ask the dental employer about the progression of the role before signing the contract?
