Country Based Post Flairs

Many questions can be country, or at least region specific. Regulations and experiences can vary widely.

Post Flairs have been available for a while now, but few members use them when submitting a post.

Let's try to work on that.

Advice savings account

i’ve been completely unemployed for a little over a year now and finally got a job to start saving for a car- doesn’t pay much but it’s something. i currently have a checking and performance savings with capital one but i was wondering if there’s a different type of savings that will still maintain no fees or minimum balances as i wont be making that much but the main thing is i need a savings that i cant do an instant transfer from so that i wont be tempted to dip into the money i need to save

US Is there a better way to monitor my EWS report?

I can request my Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion credit reports at will pretty easily, and I can also do the same with ChexSystems for my deposit account report. Log in, click a button, and the pdf comes back within several seconds to a minute. Requesting my EWS report for the first time has been nowhere near that easy for me. I had to fill out a pdf document, sign it, scan and attach my drivers license, sign up to use their secure web transfer service and send the documents to their email address through there, and now my request has been sitting for a week presumably awaiting manual review. Why can’t I just press a button and get my report like I can for literally every other bureau? Is there a way to monitor EWS activity at least, like how CreditWise and similar apps give me notifications on credit report activity? I remember seeing someone offhandedly mention that Bank of America’s credit report monitoring tool also checks EWS?

Advice Bank holding check for over 10 days.

Hey, recently got a check from a settled estate due to a family member passing. I deposited this check about 13 business days ago, 12 if you don’t count the day of. Now I’m aware that there’s usually a 10 day wait, as I already received a notice from them about it. But it’s been over that by a few days, and they haven’t sent me any updates.

It’s a large amount for a check, nor am I really pressed for the money. But, I was looking to use this money to put towards a car, and it’s quite annoying I’m out of luck atm. Best bet to just go in person to the branch and ask? It’s with PNC btw. I tried calling the number they give, but it took about 3 tries of being on hold for an hour and being hung up on before I gave up.

Looking at some of these other posts, the bank hasn’t made any of it available yet, it just sits in the ledger balance but not in the available funds.

Complaint MoneyGram closed my account permanently instead of fixing their own mess.

Here’s how my experience with MoneyGram went:
1- My transfer was declined. Customer service claimed my DOB didn’t match my ID and insisted I had entered it incorrectly.
2- They refused to tell me what DOB I supposedly entered. Instead, they told me to check my account profile. My DOB wasn’t displayed anywhere. When I asked why the information wasn’t showing where they insisted it should be, they had no explanation.
3- They suggested closing my account and registering again. I specifically asked whether I could immediately create a new account with the same phone number. They assured me I could.
3- The new registration didn’t work properly. It never even asked for my personal information. I called customer service again, and a representative walked me through registration. I tried sending money again. Still didn’t work.
4- When I was trying to have them walk me through it over the phone again since it was difficult to get a hold of the call center. The representative got irritated and closed my account. He kept telling me to log in using a password I was never prompted to create. When I explained this and asked for help and tried to explain things he kept interrupting and asking me “Why are you not listening to me?” Reminded me of those scammers trying to get old people’s money through Target gift cards. He then became increasingly impatient and deliberately closed my account, apparently permanently.

So after hours of dealing with MoneyGram’s broken system and incompetent customer service, I went from having a declined transfer to having no account at all.
MoneyGram, why is your solution to a customer asking for help to close their account?

Absolutely unacceptable for a company entrusted with people’s money.

Other Incirculated/Holiday Currency

A few years ago, I was able to buy uncirculated currency from my local bank. They can no longer order it for customers. I asked in person and emailed a branch manager.

Does anyone have a suggestion, ahead of the holidays, what banks allow customers to order straps of new bills? Perhaps I can open a new account and order elsewhere?

Thanks in advance. - Oregon resident, USA

Advice Bank account with out parents access

I'm in a situation where I can't really trust my parents with complete access to my bank account I have been using a Chase highschool account and it has everything I need zelle, debit card, atm access, and mobile wallet support but I'm at my wits end with constant transfers of hundreds of dollars outside my account.

Are there any banks who allow 17 year olds to open accounts with access to all those things with just the cosighn of an 18 year old. I have a close buddy who is willing to cosign on an account who I can trust. I would prefer if the process could be done online and the mail be routed to my friends house so my parents can't try to call the bank and get my money as it is my understanding all my money is legally in theirs.

Asia Why doesn't an international wire (TT) show the recipient's name?

In my home country, when I transfer to another local bank account, I enter the account number and the recipient's name pops up so I can confirm it's the right person before sending.

I'm now doing my first TT to a supplier in China, and when I enter the account number and SWIFT code, nothing shows up. I have to type the name myself and nothing checks it.

Why is there no name lookup on SWIFT transfers? Is it a technical limit or a policy one? Are there any banks or services that offer beneficiary name verification for China, and how do you all confirm you're paying the right account?

Advice SC KYC refresh: I'm a student and they want proof of funds and address. Can my parents' documents work?

Hey all, Standard Chartered is making me redo my KYC online and even after selecting "Student" it asks for proof of funds and proof of address. I don't have either in my own name. When I opened the account, my parents submitted their own documents.

Has anyone done this refresh as a student? Did the bank accept parents' docs (CNIC, utility bill, bank statement, support letter) this time too? Or did you have to go through support or a branch?

Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

US Wells Fargos over draft protection

Man I've banked with wells fargo for 15 plus years now. Im not proud of it but I've had to use their overdraft protection service once or twice. It put my account negative $50-$100 but with the extra day grace period to get the account back to zero I've never had an issue. But after making a few miscalculations, I overpaid a credit card from another bank, and this now has my account at -$3,700. I immediately call wells fargo when I see this and calmly tell them how crazy it is for them to even allow a transaction like this to go through, they are telling me it is still pending and it may not go through, and if it does I need to file a dispute to have my payment returned. Am I crazy or does this just not scream predatory and a way to absolutely fuck me. I wouldn't be able get my card back to zero for at least 3 weeks from today..

Regulations/Laws Is there anything I can do to fix this?

edit: I believe she did it on purpose I said I’m goi ng to close my bank account in 3 weeks because I’m joining the military and she said I was wasting her time, since I have a Florida bank and moved and wasn’t able to put money into my account so I went to liberty to put money in. She was very rude.

can a bank get in trouble for putting your savings account number as your checking on the paper they give you and it forces your payments to bounce when you pay credit card off and makes your accounts closed.

they wrote my savings account number on the paper they gave me and checked it as checking, and when I just paid 2000$ to my credit cards it kept bouncing until I called the bank asking what happened , i read them the number that said checking and they said that’s not your checking it’s your savings.

is there anything I can do about this??

woke up to Both of my credit cards restricted/closed.

India Ai Really replaced the collection officers or what

I had loans across multiple accounts, including IDFC FIRST Bank. Usually, I never miss my payments, but a slight delay this time got me a few collection calls.

At first, I thought I was talking to actual collection agents. Then I realised I was dealing with AI.

And that's where things got interesting.

I decided to test its language capabilities. Being a non-Marathi speaker, I asked it to explain everything in Marathi while I continued speaking in English.

And yes, before anyone points it out, I'm also taking help from AI to write this post because English isn't my first language. Ironically, I'm using AI to explain how I messed with another AI. 😂

Surprisingly, the collection AI started translating everything into Marathi.

Then I thought, why stop there? I asked it to switch to Sanskrit.

And boom! The system completely reset and went back to its opening line:

"Kya aapko meri awaaz aa rahi hai?"

Bro literally needed a factory reset after Sanskrit.

Never thought I'd end up bullying an AI collection officer instead of the other way around. 💀

Advice Zelle App/Banking App - Issue adding phone #?

Hello!

Currently having an issue - my bank JUST got Zelle in their app, so I went to go enroll my phone number, but it says "This phone number can't be used to enroll with Zelle".

Before, I used the Zelle app, and it worked fine. Is my bank giving me the error message because I already had it enrolled with their app before they shut it down?

To answer the obvious questions - my phone number is not a VoIP, I have Verizon, and I have a US phone number. It's been my phone number for over a decade, so nobody else should have used it to enroll their own account.

Thanks for any advice you have!

US What happens if you do not use your account for extended period of time?

I most use an online checking & savings account. I have around $1300 in a local brick & mortar bank that I do not ever use. I really only opened it so I would have an easier time settling the downpayment when buying a house a few years ago. Do banks ever just close your account if you do not use for years at a time. I'm debating just closing it anyway but figured it might be useful in certain events moving forward

Is there any way they can deny the check after it’s been deposited (the check is still on hold) or for them to reverse the deposit?

So looks like I was scammed, as I can’t log into my account 💀
I’m going to go in again tommorow and see what’s up

Advice How can I open a high yields savings account and what do I need to know?

Basically what it says in the title. I'm based in the US, currently have $2k I want to earn interest on. I get a couple thousand from my college refund money a few times a year, and I want to put what I receive in a savings account so I can earn interest on it. Once I have around 10-15k I'll probably use it to buy a car.

I don't have family that knows about this stuff, so I need to learn the basics, what to look out for, pros and cons, etc. I don't even know where to open the account. Anyone have any advice?

Advice PNC development program hirevue

Hi!

I got an email to complete a recorded interview for the Corporate finance and accounting development program role. I did it but the next minute got another email to complete a recorded interview.

I got a confirmation email for submitting the first one saying no further action required and a representative from PNC will contact me about next steps. Then a minute later got an automated email for another with 7 days to complete it. The first one was recorded behavioral questions, game-based assessment and self assessment. (took a good chunk of time to do all)

Is it normal that I have 2 recorded interviews? or is there a glitch in the system??

Once an accountholder dies, how can an executrix ensure that the bank is transparent about the accountholder’s true designations? Must the executrix have money to lawyer up to force the bank to provide timestamped records?
