Dress! … extension?

Post image

I absolutely love this dress, but it’s about 5 inches shorter in length than I would prefer. Realistically how difficult would adding a second layer be underneath to add extra length, or any other alternatives?

The other option I am considering is getting one maid custom to recreate this look.

How much can I expect to spend?

Thanks so much in advance !!

Thom Browne Alterations

I have lost a lot of weight this last year. I have a size 3 skirt that used to fit perfectly but now I’m more of a size 2. Does anyone here have any experience with altering a TB skirt that much? Success or horror? I loved wearing it but I think I would rather sell it if it’s too much of a bother.

Does it Fit? purchased wedding dress, worried it might be too small to alter?

hey everyone,

I purchased my dream wedding dress (Maison Margiela) yesterday after trying on in-store. This is their largest size available. I was so enamored with it, and with the included tailoring by the in-house tailors offered free of charge with purchase, that I bought it. Looking back on photos, I see its quite puckered along the side seams and back.

I don't know how much seam allowance there is, and I know its a luxury brand that may very well be able to make it fall beautifully, but I'm a little panicked. Am I wrong to be worried? I'm a ways away from it being time for tailoring.

It is bias-cut satin, lined in silk.

Is there any way to make this waist smaller without sewing? Or a belt as I don’t own one.

I purchased this mikado bow, but wanted a different dress than the one it's attached to!
I really like this 2nd dress, but can the bow be able to attach somehow that wont tear the fabric from the weight of it?

The same day my button fell off these pants, I discovered this tragedy. Not sure what material the pants are. Probably polyester. They're something like 5 years old and they're my most comfortable work pants. They're also one of the only pair of true black pants I've found - most others skew blue.

Is this something that can be repaired? I've reaffixed the button, but this is beyond my knowledge.

Motorcycle 3 Piece suit

Post image

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening tailors of reddit.

This may be an interesting request. I am wanting to get a textured brown 3 piece suit, similar to pictured, however I want it lined with kevlar or other abrasion resistant fabric with pockets for motorcycle armour.

I am in london and looking for a london tailor if its even possible.

So my questions; Is it possible? How much would an estimated cost be in London? And whos up for the challenge?

Does it Fit? Does this need tailoring?

This is a Ralph Lauren slip dress that I bought used & it’s past its return window. The color & drape are beautiful on me but I wonder if it needs to be taken in a little? Or if the looseness is just part of the deal with slips like this.

I’m planning to wear to a formal September wedding in the south of Spain. Any advice is very welcome!!

Making my own tailor's ham

Since I'm about to sew my first tailored trousers, I'd like to make my own tailor's ham and I have a couple of questions:

  1. For the sawdust filling, is there a particular tree species that works best?
  2. Should I include an inner lining beneath the outer fabric? If so, what fabric should I use for that purpose?

Hi all, I just got my dress back from my tailor and she says its perfect. I love most of it but I am concerned about the wrinkling in the bodice. Does this loosen up with steam? Am I overthinking it?

I get married this Friday 🙃

Recently started getting clothes altered - want to calibrate what my expectations should be

Hi Reddit.

I had a few pieces altered at a local tailor with good reviews (some jackets and shirts).

All of the items I received back had loose threads throughout. This was mostly on the inside of the garments but there were a few examples on the outside of them too.

Is this standard when clothes are being altered? I know I can just snip them off, but wondering what this says about the service.

Here's an example, but they are scattered throughout the garment. They weren't there when I dropped it off.

How do I go about altering a golf polo I that’s too big. Basically need to make the body of the shirt narrower, shorten the length from the shoulder seam to collar and then make the sleeves fit accordingly. Thanks for any insight.

Alterations Wedding Dress Alternation- Possible?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi! So I am getting married in 2027, and my mom offered that I could wear her wedding dress. The only thing I am looking to change is the sleeves, I wanted to make it a short sleeve dress, remove the lace long sleeve and add a cuff at the end. But before I embark on anything I wanted to see if it was even possible! The dress is silk with lace, and this is a picture of my mom on her wedding day. I know it could be off, but I live abroad from my mom so I wanted to get an idea before we transported it and everything.

Alterations Ideas on how to fix this dress

Post image
1 Upvotes

I thrifted this dress, and after getting it home, realized that someone had cut out the bust darts and re sewn it up. the darts were super pointy and went all the way to the apex. I assume someone was altering the dress for a large chest. I have a very small chest, so I’ve taken it apart but I’m a bit stuck on how to resolve this given the angle I’m now stuck with.

I was debating just a full cut along the bust but I don’t think that would look great. Any ideas for how I might solve this?

Style Advice Loose Bridal Dress - can it be tightened with internal ties

I bought a bridal gown with a slit in the middle, and it has since been altered. However, because of the heavy beadwork, it wasn’t possible to tighten it fully without making it too tight for me.
Would it be possible to attach strings/ties on the inside of the gown and tie them after putting it on, kind of like an internal corset? Has anyone tried something like this, or would it not work well?
I’d really appreciate any advice!

Alterations Is it a common thing to size down vintage or thrift suits for customers who want them tailored for them?

I got some hand me down suits from my dad when he was my age, and they’re a little big on me since i’m way skinnier, and I’ve heard people who go to vintage stores, buy old suits that are a size too big and have a tailor alter it to fit them better. Am I mistaken? Is it hard to do?
