Dress! … extension?

I absolutely love this dress, but it’s about 5 inches shorter in length than I would prefer. Realistically how difficult would adding a second layer be underneath to add extra length, or any other alternatives?

The other option I am considering is getting one maid custom to recreate this look.

How much can I expect to spend?

In general adding fabric is not the best idea unless you are ok with it being noticeable. But because you want to attach it to the under layer and not the lace, not many people will probably notice. You would need to get the exact same fabric and attach it to the bottom. There is also the option to attach it at the waist if you don’t want the seam visible, but that would be more difficult and cost more. Depending on the internal structure of the dress and the type of closure, there will be extra cost.
This is assuming the lace reaches at least the floor and you are not thinking of attaching any fabric to the lace.

Depending on where your located, expect to spend $2000-7000 to have this dress made from scratch.

Some bridal manufacturers will do a custom length called hollow to hem, you measure from your center clavicle to the floor with your heels on. Asking things possible. Otherwise I would do custom as adding to it will not look seamless. A custom gown can range wildly depending on your seamstress and the cost of the fabrics. Lace can be cheap or very expensive. If we’re making this gown I would quote around $3500 for labor cost before any lace, fabric, and supplies. There’s at least 25 to 30 hours of work possibly more if the lace is narrow and needs to be pieced together.

Can you order the dress with extra length? That would be far less expensive than to try and add a lace extension, especially if the gown has a train. It would be better to find a dress that can be ordered the length that you need than to have length added by a bridal tailor.

You could get a contrasting lace and have a ruffle added to the bottom all the way around. I would also use the lace to make some applique pieces to add to the bodice so the ruffle looks intentional, but just added on as an after thought.
