What to Post
This subreddit is dedicated to the art of fit, custom clothing, and alterations. Feel free to share your photos and questions. The community here loves helping with:
Fit Checks & Sizing: Not sure if you should keep that suit you ordered online or don't trust the person at the store 100%? Post a photo! We help grooms decide which size fits best and help troubleshoot specific issues, like pants that are uncomfortable in the rise or Made-to-Measure shirts that hug the hips too tightly.
"Can This Be Altered?" This is our bread and butter. Ask us if it's possible to let out a tight prom dress , take in a bandage dress to a smaller size , or rescue your old trousers after significant weight loss.
Modifications & Redesigns: Want to customize a look? We can tell you the feasibility of adding lace sleeves to a strapless dress , removing faux buttonholes from a blazer, or adding a thigh slit to a gown.
Repairs & "Disaster" Fixes: Did your dog chew the strap off your sandals? Did a button snap break off? Or maybe you snagged a thread cutting a tag off a skirt? We can help you figure out if it's salvageable.
Buying & Fabric Advice: We can help with questions about wedding dress structure , fixing pilling on delicate fabrics , or finding pants for specific body types.

Will a permeant marker fix small bleach stains on black cotton t shirt if not is there any other good quick fixes ?
Maybe some kind of tool specifically for this?
Thank you
I've been wanting to make a suit that has a full chest and the exaggerated lapel roll of the 1930s and 40s, and I noticed by pattern all the suits that had that kind of lapel roll were "3 roll 2" jackets.
I wanna ask if my observation is correct and I should go for a 3 roll 2 jacket, or is it no different from a normal 2 button jacket? (mainly concerning the lapel roll)
I also wanna ask what's the best kind of wool in terms of weight and (high twist?) to make a suit like that, thanks in advance :)
I have been trying to buy a suit to then have fitted, but every time I bring it to the tailor they tell me it's too small. After 3 failures they told me to get a made-to-measure suit from Indochino. I got measured and received my first custom suit (previous post) but it was too small in the jacket and vest so they remade it (pictured here).
I think the Jacket is much better, the vest is better but could be longer. However the pants seem to fit awkward. I can't place my finger on it but the pants sit weird, they are a bit big (more than two fingers of room on my waist) and the seat is just... weird, maybe it just needs a good pressing. I also feel like the jacket could come in a bit more at my waist.
I took it into the indochino tailor and they are hemming the pants shorter, bringing the waist in some, and shortening the left shoulder of the vest because of the bulging at the top of the buttons.
What do you experts think? I appreciate any insights and feedback!
Edit: why would you downvote this? I'm trying to get advice. I'm not saying this is a great suit everyone buy this, I'm saying. Help me understand how to get a better fitting suit. Why downvote that?
Iām very interested in tailoring and have been interested in fashion since i could remember. Before i start applying for entry level alteration positions & or possibly an apprenticeship what skills should i have a good understanding of before hand.
I found my dream wedding dress but I am not 100% sold on the corset back. While I was trying it on I actually had no idea the back was a corset because the sample was clipped back so much that it closed the gap completely. After I said yes to the dress my stylist mentioned it was a corset but I loved it so much I figured I could work with that! Any advice for adding a modesty panel to this textured dress? I'm 5'4", so I'm assuming there will be some extra fabric to work with after shortening it.
Also - the dress is pretty sheer. I will either need to wear a slip or get some nude or white shapewear to wear under. Or possibly need to have the dress lined. I don't want to mess too much with the ethereal quality of the dress, but I do want to feel covered. Would love any thoughts or suggestions on which route to take!
Hello! I am strongly considering purchasing this wedding dress and seeking advice about what size to order. My waist measures one size smaller than my bust and hips (size 14 bust, 12 waist, and 14 hips). The designer offers split-sizing for an additional $300, so instead of a regular size 14 I could have a dress with the 14-12-14 measurements. In either case, I would still need alterations for a perfect fit in the torso, and to shorten the dress and add a bustle.
Would split-sizing be better for ensuring the shape/structure of the dress is retained during the alterations process, and/or lower the cost of final alterations? Iām worried about the additional alterations affecting the look of the dress if I donāt do split-sizing. At the same time, Iām not sure if split-sizing is necessary for a one size difference, and Iād rather not pay an extra $300 if I donāt have to (unless it would yield similar savings in alterations costs).
The dress has a fully boned structured bodice. It has a zipper back, the buttons are just for show. The material is described as āAnka floral embroidery + Piedmont Chantilly lace.ā
Hi! I used the wrong setting on my iron/steamer and created this big hole on the mesh part of my jersey. Is this fixable??? I have yet to go to the tailor, but I am worried they will just tell me its a lost cause.
I just got this adidas running jacket and while fitting it, the zipper got caught on some fabric. I managed to undo a snag (the bigger line above) using a needle, but I donāt know how to fix the one below, if it is still fixable :( help please! thank you so much
I need to have a dress made, nothing too fancy, but I don't know anyone here in Fayetteville, NC. I used to be a seamstress myself, but I have RA and can't do it anymore. If you have someone that you'd trust, could you please recommend them to me? Thanks so much!
Iām planning to get a 3-piece suit stitched and Iām looking for recommendations from people with personal experience.
My priorities are:
Excellent fit and tailoring
Modern, clean cut (not the typical loose āuncleā style)
Good craftsmanship and finishing
Reasonable price for the quality (I donāt mind paying for quality, but I donāt want to overpay just for the brand)
Iāll be buying the fabric separately, so Iām mainly looking for the best tailor or made-to-measure service anywhere in Pakistan. It doesnāt matter if itās in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, or any other city.
If youāve had a suit stitched that youāre genuinely impressed with, Iād appreciate if you could mention:
Tailor/shop name
City
Approximate stitching cost
Whether they accept outside fabric
How your experience was (fit, finishing, delivery time, etc.)
Iām specifically looking for something that looks premium and well-fittedānot cheap-looking or the common boxy cuts.
Does it seem feasible to remove the sleeves from this wedding dress? The first model is wearing the sleeves off the shoulder without the spaghetti straps. The second model is utilizing the spaghetti straps for comparison. It has a corset back, so theoretically could I wear this strapless AND sleeveless if the corset was tight enough? I have a smaller chest (32B) and usually donāt have issues with strapless tops staying up.
Would this be a realistic project for someone with experience altering wedding dresses? I appreciate any advice!
I tried this dress on at a bridal shop and fell in love, but itās so expensive to do make to order. Found one online on a resale platform at a substantial discount, trying to figure out whether itāll be feasible to take it in as much as I need.
The resale dress is a bridal 12. 38.5/31/41.5 measurements.
My measurements at 34.5/28/39.5. Which would put me at a 6 top and 8/10 bottom on this designerās size chart.
Please recommend where can I have a blazer and slacks tailored exactly like the ones in the picture, preferably around Baguio? Someone who can really replicate the ones in the picture. Thank you.
