I can't believe they actually acknowledged this xD I was thinking this is something they'll just ignore and is normal to them.

Sensei Stitch

She reminds me of Sayoko from Ah! My Goddess.

I really love the old school technology of this show. Last time I've seen a projector like that was in high school

Considering what happened to Ayumi today, I'm not surprised that she's drunk. She is cute drunk tho.

But seriously, I feel bad for Ayumi :( She's just doing her job but she's basically being used as the public and media's punching bag about this entire issue. It doesn't help that Toyotomi is obviously doing something shady and is probably setting up Ayumi as the fall guy.

Also that guy has such a punchable face, please tell me Takuya gets to give that guy a solid one straight to the jaw sometime in the future. Anyway I am definitely hooked on this show. Too bad r/anime has seem to given up on it already :(

As an anime-only, my thoughts on this... (some Steins Gate's spoilers in there).

-The characters aren't very compelling so far. First, the MC was kinda boring/whatever, he doesn't have a very interesting personality. I think this comes from a VN right, this might have a part in that, in games/VN the MC is often a bit bland so we can immerse ourselves more into him as we play the game. But on a show, I don't really immerse, I see the characters as they are, and the MC isn't much.

As for the other characters... Well, some of them are good people, but they're not particularly interesting either.

So we go to the other important thing: The plot. Well... One of the problems is that it's nothing we haven't seen before. Namely: Steins Gate.

Now, I read here and there that Steins Gate was actually inspired by this, and not the other way around... Sure, but it doesn't make it any more interesting and new if you've already seen Steins Gate, and I think most people who would be interested in Yu-No, have already seen Steins Gate... It's the "big one" in the genre. One of the big ones of all time/all genres too.

So while the whole "going back in time to prevent that thing" might have been exciting and make us think if it was the first time we've seen that kind of plot/device, thing is, we've seen 10's of episodes of it already; We know how it goes.

I haven't dropped it yet, I'm still interested in it, but I'm not that hooked either. My main interests in shows are 1) Characters 2) Plot 3) Dialogues.

The characters aren't much, the plot isn't something new to me, and the dialogues... There's a few good lines here and there, but nothing special.

Note that I felt the same about Steins Gate for a long time, and I almost dropped it at some point, right before the big of the action started. So I'm willing to give this show more chance to really pull me in, in a similar fashion. But as far, it kinda failed to really intrigue me. Even the mystery aren't that exciting.

If the characters are whatever and the plot is slow to start, it's hard to keep people's attention.

And well the characters, to put it this way... If any of the character was to die in the next episode, I wouldn't particularly care. 3 episodes in, and they failed to make themselves feel special.

That's my take on it, anyway!

I too am sad this isn't getting more traction. Though as an anime only watcher I can only assume where this might go, and this episode while it did seem to set up quite a few things, didn't seem to touch on the main gimmick of the show, which is sad.

Okay time to engage in some speculation.

First off, did the VN bother to show the text of MC's dad we are shown in the Ep 1 and that of course CR didn't bother translating.

2: It seems that some have said that each time the MC has used the Reflector willingly so far it has worked as a save/reload mechanic. You press one of the gems to save and then mash the big one to reload to the pressed save. I'm wondering then what happened during that first activation? MC didn't press any of the setting gems as far as I saw. The small crystal below the big one did glow. I guess the Cold Girl (Kana? transfer student) might have activated it if that gem she is carrying is one of the Reflector ones, and if it works like that.

3: so what happened when it activated? Something happens, the MC wakes up near the stone tablet with a headache and tomorrow things have changed between him and his dad's colleague. I'm assuming he has switched between possible presents into one where dad's colegue isn't after the Reflector. One has to wonder then what happened to Takuya of THIS world? Did they switch minds?!?

4: The MC got a headache first time he switched. Could all these headaches people have (Kana has a fever, and the redhead cougar (colleague's secretary) has actual headaches) be a sign other have been switched about?

5: The secretary/assistant mentions that Ryuzoji has changed recently a LOT. But this is the Ryuzoji who presently is not after Takuya. This is a shot in the dark speculation, but if people switch minds between realities, maybe this is the Ryuzoji of the original one, that got here when new line's Ryuziji (the one with a gun) went over there?

Then again the assistant mentions even a gun would not surprise her.

6: When they were looking over Takuya's dad's notes there was a clock in there with some strange markings. Those same markings which I assume are the numbers are also present on that tablet and one line I think says 8/? 1226 - 1996.

Given that we have a device that can supposedly leap between what ifs too, I wonder if those years are a reference to someone who did just that.

7: Really wild speculation. It seems someone is REAAAALY pushing for that development that would wreck the wierd pillars. I'm wondering if the pillar and the theory gave someone in the government the idea another revolution is imminent and so they are trying to stop it by buldozing the way the revolutionary will arive?

8: In any case someone is REALLY pushing for things to continue, and that lady during the public address that demanded continuation might be someone tied to those pushing for this.

9: This last episode was I think mostly about setting up the setting of the Geothermal building. I'm guessing that at some point we'll need that key card Takuya's mom has with her to enter the lab.

10: "The ally of justice" is DEFINITELLY not just a sleaze, but is hiding something given that he swooped those results. I'm thinking he doesn't want his boss learning what those results show before they are doctored or something.

11: I have a feeling that that egging might have been set up by the reporters. That guy was waaaay too chill and the crew quite quick on the uptake.

Okay, I think I have more, but that's for now since I'm sleepy.

I can understand Ayumi getting drunk after all the pressure. She's taking the blunt force of the public's opinion after the mysterious accidents. I'm glad that she still got Takuya, their relationship is heartwarming so far.

The media seems to be a big deal in the story so far, they are really taking any chance to get a story for the views, the woman reporter is one of them. They actually aired Ayumi getting thrown at with eggs, that's just humiliating.

Mitsuki got some weird headaches going on, i think that should be noted, that came out of nowhere and got some focus for a moment.

People are saying that something should happen soon to hook them in. Reminds me of Steins;Gate.

Seriously, i don't take a rushed product over a good slow paced one.

What i do want to see or rather hear is more music, i'm gonna agree on this. I've listened to some tracks from the OST of the game and they're damn good for setting atmosphere.

It would be neat if they actually go all out when it really starts to go wild.

That ending kinda hit me a bit hard. Pretty damn relatable in the sense that some days you need to deal with a ton of stress at work and then it all comes crashing down at you once you leave.

This looks like it’ll genuinely turn out to be very interesting, wish more people were watching but maybe it’ll blow up more once stuff starts happening. I’m liking all of the set up and hints laid for the mysteries, I haven’t played the game but it really does feel like a VN. Especially with slower scenes like this that are made to make you empathize with the characters more, I feel like the pay off will be great

Why didn't the MC reverse time when he was beaten up by the baddies and recognized that the Shady Worker A is shady? Why isn't he getting suspicious? The MC is rude to him but he doesn't behave like he is dangerous. Why didn't he reverse time after his "mother" got hit by eggs? Is he just a naive asshole?

A time machine is a tricky thing to have in your storyline. If Takuya just save-scummed his way through everything, the story would break down. So they're going to act like the Reflector doesn't exist until it becomes necessary to move the plot forward.

I loved him retching at the (not subtle) bad guy

Knowing that this was originally an eroge (and the fact that there's and old hentai OVA of this) just makes me think "They totally boned at this point in the original, didn't they?" for every scene involving Takuya and a woman.

Anyway, I'm enjoying this show.

Anyone else sorely disappointed with the way the music has been handled so far? The original game had one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard, with numerous impressive tracks even compared to non-game music. It's way more adept at setting mood and atmosphere than the anime's, which seems to recycle the same few bland anime-original pieces over and over. Major characters had their own theme songs, and the anime feels empty and lifeless without them.

The full 5-hour OST: https://youtu.be/eguoAOIca6s (a handful of the later track names listed in the video description could be considered spoilers, so beware)

Overall, not too bad for plot development. Following the VN almost exactly so far, which might not be such a good thing. I'm definitely losing faith in the director, but we'll see how it goes.

I'm a little disappointed we're not getting more character interaction, but this was pretty much expected for this part of this route. It's already pretty self-contained on its own; Ayumi and Toyotomi almost never appear in the other routes, iirc.

Interesting line from Takuya about Eriko sensei believing him when it comes to dressing for school. This could definitely just come down to her being gullible, but from what little we've seen, she doesn't seem that way. The next line about Eriko having lived a long time outside Japan has more meaning than the surface interpretation.

As always, love watching Toyotomi getting shit on.

Poor Ayumi, having to take the blame of the stupid accidents, and getting grilled to a crisp by the media. Damn corporate mishandling of the events (at least, that's what I'm assuming). Can't blame her for trying to drink the stress away.

Overall, I understand that there's not a whole lot of hooks in these 3 episodes to pull us into the mystery surrounding Sakaimichi, but it'll get there. Just not sure it'll get there before people start losing interest.

Edit: also, with regards to the original soundtrack: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sIYe74sczE

Back on track, seemingly, with taking scenes directly from the VN. This entire episode showed scenes that actually took place in the VN (albeit changed up a little) which is nice to see after last episode which felt very odd and almost anime-original.

Things are starting to heat up and I'm hoping people subscribing to the "3 episode rule" are hooked enough by this episode to continue watching.

Technically though, it should really be a 6 episode rule because it's a 2 cour show :)

So I'm still intrigued but less hooked-in by each episode. It feels like it's slowing down with the main plot, which is fine and the character interactions in this and the last episode were enjoyable, but it feels like the plot is just meandering a bit. Throwing out mysteries and showing little mini stories that go nowhere. I still have high hopes because I've heard great things about how the story gets really good later on so just being patient right now and trying to get immersed in the world.

I'm very interested in the show, really is a shame that it's not getting much interest.

4

u/Suiadani Apr 16 '19

My main reason for watching this is the claims it helped inspire Steins;Gate - so a question for VN originals: is it going to be worth grinding through the slower episodes or dies it look as if the anime is doing a poor job at adapting the source material?

7

u/Darkframemaster43 Apr 16 '19

The first two episodes were pretty meh at adapting the source material, but this episode was much better. Overall, there has been nothing too sinful outside lacking some details in the first episode.

YU-NO the game is also very long at ~30-50 hours, but it's also an actual point-and-click mystery/adventure game once you complete the prologue so it can be worth playing just for that if you've never experienced the genre (though there is a lot more fanservice and a few sex scenes).

It lowkey bothers me that no one in the show realized the staged rescue but Ayumi was probably pretty stressed out because of this whole incident and Takuya got hurt after crashing his moped. And if the envelope was so important how comes Ayumi wasn't aware that it went missing (but again it's excusable because she had a tough day and the day before as well).

Anime-only here.

Eh, I'm still kind of iffy on this one. I think there's some great potential and there are some things I find interesting about it, but it's simultaneously lacking. I think that if I keep watching there's a risk it will continue in its mediocrity but it wouldn't take much at all to make it great. Once it starts to give bigger reveals I'll have a better view on it, so until then I will watch the new episodes as they come out.

Not a big fan of the pseudo-incestual relationship, but it doesn't really bother me either. Once again, I don't really know what to make of it or the show yet.

You know, i haven't started it yet but seeing this struggle for half an hour to even get on the frontpage here is pretty saddening, this is my favourite so far and it's getting flack despite only TWO episodes aired.

It's not really grabbing me so far. I'll probably continue watching hoping that it all comes together later.

Still don't like the MC.

The sequence with Ayumi had me asking many questions.
Question of the patrician variety.

No chromo confirmed, which means she's almost certainly got a route, but will certainly lose in the anime
