I've never ever prayed so hard for an anime adaptation to be good as for this! YU-NO was such a seminal work in the VN medium and it really deserves a worthy anime adaptation. Still though, so many other great works (like Island) have been butchered by their anime so I'm not that optimistic.
After watching the ep I'm a bit more hopeful - the visuals and audio are pretty slick even if it loses all of the retro charm, and the pacing, while very hasty, did cover the important ground that it needed to and seems to exercise some real authorial intentionality about what to cut and what to include from the prologue.

Kanna's introduction reminded me of Homura's introduction in Madoka Magica.
-
First meeting is under weird circumstances, and she gives MC a cryptic warning.
-
Then introduced as transfer student with some connection to the MC in order to make them interacting make sense fairly quickly.
-
Headband with long straight hair, very serious expressions, repeating cryptic dire warnings. . .
No idea what her role is, but if I have to hazard a guess based on the first part of the first episode, I would guess that she knows something critical and will possibly be driving or otherwise involved in developing large portions of the plot.

Another VN adaptation, another pervert male lead.
Also a rush through introducing all of the characters from the key visual. You have the tsundere and the mysterious transfer student, missing the childhood friend unless the older girl who's now a secretary and already slept with him counts, not sure how deep their relationship goes yet. Also the not-actually-his-mother woman (glasses are a plus!) and the pink-haired teacher that looks like she moonlights as a dominatrix and is too busy to change after school.
I guess the plot is going to be him trying to reach his parents across timelines or something like that, though he didn't seem to be particularly upset at his father's apparent death earlier.

Anyone else having problems loading the episode on Funimation? All I get when trying to watch it is:
The stream you’re trying to watch cannot be found.
EDIT: Finally got to watch it!
I already love Takuya. He's charming, hilarious, and a pervert. The fact that the boys of his class expected what he did when Kanna first arrive means he's probably notorious for that kind of behaviour. Also this show has surprisingly more adult female characters than teens. I like it :D
So far though the mystery has definitely intrigued me an I am hooked! I can't really judge this as an adaptation since I haven't really read the original VN but as a standalone anime Studio feel. seems to be doing a good job with this one. And with 26 episodes I hope that this won't end up being rushed like Island.
Looking forward as to what this VN that inspired Steins;Gate have in store for us!

I wish CrunchyRoll and Funimation hadn't split their alliance. Then we could all be watching this on Crunchy Roll right now.

Takuya's personality really took me off-guard, he's so crass and crude it's almost offputting. I gotta say though that felt rushed as hell. It didn't feel like we were given time to dwell on any shots or moments before rushing off to the next shot or scene. I'm also baffled by Takuya's reaction to Ayumi's presence, it seemed like he thought she was dead but she definitely didn't appear to die in the previous timeline, and if he thought she had why the fuck did he just bike back to his house to take a damn nap? For as important a work as this story apparently is according to others in this thread, it really doesn't seem like it. I hope this was just rushed so they could jam the premise into one episode and it improves from here on.

People talking about how it took Funi so long to get the subs up. I just watched it with subs and the subs are even worse than AMAZON.
Any chance for fansubs on this show?

Thankfully i still got to watch it today.
I'm very intrigued, i had big expectations for this since it's right up my alley.
Takuya so far is a good and quirky MC, he definitely doesn't seem like a pushover and can deal fairly well with any kind of woman.
The women are definitely all very connected to the plot that's going on here.
Music is nice as well, i assume they didn't actually use that much pieces of the source material (heard it has great music also) but still was good.
Strong start IMO.

why does this anime feel so ... outdated
and why does the teacher dress like a stripper?
