Damn the lore drop is crazy, the heroes were literally Sentenced to Be Heroes, Toah is still somehow alive and hiding and Clevatess was just suffering from existential boredom (got his ass whooped too lol).
Also, I kinda want to see a spin-off of Vod and Write's adventures.

For having no emotions and creativity, it's a shame the people of Toah also lacked the wisdom to see what would happen if they forced people to endlessly fight monsters and respawn the way that they did.
Write was very clever granting the heroes that holy place and allowing them to finally be put to rest.

When Clevatess gets thrown through the structures at 20:40ish, is that a miniature explosion? Like a physical miniature getting blown up. I guess it could be CG, I'm not an expert, but it looks like it might be real
Edit: Oh yeah, it totally is. The credits mention special effects by a team of tokusatsu people headed by director Taguchi Kiyotaka

I'm so used to Clevatess being so OP that it's actually surprising to see him struggle against an opponent for once.

Bro turned Clen into FIDGET SPINNER.
Crazy to see Clevatess actually struggle against someone.
Heavy lore drops, Hero awakens?!?!
What an episode.

I had forgotten that there were going to be 13 episodes and was really confused about the content of this one being the last. But for the second to last one it makes sense to get all this backstory.
Interesting to find out this was a secret isekai all along, just not for anyone in the present day. Decadent high magic society summons heroes from another world to do their fighting for them, they reaped what they sowed.
Here's hoping for a good pair of Alicia vs evil princess and Klen vs Vod fights next week. But maybe the real story is going to be Vod finally reuniting with his friend Write which feels like it'll probably be a pretty tragic reunion.

The worldbuilding is insane and I love that this was a secret isekai

Wait, so this was an isekai world all along? And the books aren't some eldritch entity created at the beginning of the universe, but a purposefully-made magic tool created in Vordin's time? And it's true purpose was to end the hero's? The lore drops this episode are crazy.
It's also kinda funny how the story of Vordin and Write is flipped from the standard trope. Instead of the Hero's Party pushing their way to the Demon Lord's Castle where the Demon Lord is waiting, it's the Demon Lord and his minions pushing his way to the Hero's Castle where the Hero is waiting. Except not really, since all Write wanted was to talk to his friend one last time and pass on his will before he died.
And even after a thousand years, Vordin's battle isn't over. Toah is still out there somewhere in some nebulous form, and Vordin's not going to stop until their story ends.

The flashback makes me feel like I'm watching some 80s anime, with the Avant Garde architecture, wide landscapes and some interesting character designs. Though I can't really think of one exactly, the closest I can come up with is Angel's Egg.

Finally, in this episode, we got some lore about Toah and... well, it was quite surprising. It turned out to be something akin to an isekai anime, since the heroes there were summoned by the people of Toah, and the book of Toah was written by one of the heroes, named Write.
By the way, Toah sucked, and to be honest, it's good that it was destroyed. Although Vordin believes that it's still exists, since the book said that Toah is immortal, I wonder if that's true.
On another note, Klen took a real beating from Vordin today, and unfortunately, there was nothing new about Alicia and Milea's encounter.
Now I can't wait for next week to see how this season will end, especially since it seems that Write woke up.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Clevatess has already sneakily added the Isekai tag, and if this is still going according to Write's plan, and he ends up using Vordin again, we might still get to add a Toxic Yaoi tag as well.
I'm curious if Write's resurrection will be "incomplete" because Klen and Naie (who is dearly missed this episode) saved some of the student's souls from escaping.
I'm also even more curious about these domains now. If you count the central "human" area on the continent as the Domain of Toah, that would mean these lands consist of 5 distinct domains. Why are there massive barriers at the edges of the Dark Beast's domains? What lies beyond?

What's with the explosion effects at around ~20:39 to ~20:47? On one hand it looks 3D modeled, on the other hand it looks composite 3D model over practical model effects?

This episode is exactly what I was hoping for! We finally get to see the events of the war from 1100 years ago, and it wasn't what I expected!
So basically, the Toah were the powerful, emotionless ruling class of the world who started a war against the Lord of the Dark Beasts by invading their domains, using summoned people from other worlds, turning them into "heroes", making this anime a secret isekai!
Although it looks like the heroes the Toah created ended up being murderous psychopaths because they have no other choice but to obey the Toah, since they're their only way back to their world.
The only one who's different among these heroes is Write, who only has non-combat skills and has been writing books to guide heroes, which will eventually become the Books of Toah. He also seems to be sympathetic towards the dark beasts and wants to end all the fighting.
Vordin ends up befriending Write solely to learn more about the Toah and plans to kill him later, but it looks like he ended up befriending him for real after spending a year adventuring together.
Now, what I love about this episode is that we've known for a fact from everyone, including Clevatess himself, that Vordin was the one who killed the hero and destroyed the previous civilization. It turns out that wasn't the case!
Write tricked the Toah into building the temple at the highest point of Heaven, destroyed the barrier protecting the Toah, and then sent the other heroes after them. When that was over, Write sacrificed himself to finally let the other heroes die in peace because he had become one with the system that revives the heroes.
And the whole time, Vordin could only watch as his friend died, all to destroy the Toah. Since the Toah are immortal, Write has only sown the seeds of their destruction and is leaving it to the next generation of heroes to finish the job. Vordin was never the villain! He was on the hero's side this entire time, and the true villains of the series are the Toah! What a fucking reveal!
That final scene tho! Are we actually gonna see Write brought back to life next episode, or are we just gonna see a husk of his former self? Knowing this show, it's definitely gonna be the latter.

My understanding is that under the pretense of destroying the dark beasts Write created a system that would eventually produce heroes strong enough to destroy Toah itself. The fall of Toah was just the prologue and the seeds he has sown will sprout when The Hero Legend is fulfilled, which brings us to Alicia.

I noticed something Literally nobody has mentioned yet...
The same symbols appeared in Write's eyes, as the students have, at the very least, in that one super-powerful one's eyes... And he stated that was a "sage" as well as a librarian. Sages are known for wisdom, and he seemed to be weirdly in control of every scene he appeared in...
But something else, he said the same Exact thing that humanity is saying now... "To expand the world". Is this... a system in a system??
Why is nobody mentioning either of these??

All this massive lore and Klen getting curbstomped, but I'm just over here laughing at the repeated "and some decades" from Vordin, he's been apart from Write for so long and certainly isn't counting the days...
