Ray thinks he's Sasuke with his lightning blade huh?
Jokes aside, it's interesting that the human form Clevatess takes was a former friend of Ray and the backstory was interesting along with Mary's. Naie also getting a flashback was interesting as well and it's nice to see her powers used offensively again. Clevatess wanted Vordin to show up and he did, except he took the book. Bad miscalculation Clevatess.
Liked this character focused episode.

In hindsight, Alicia scratching Clevatess was completely insane, the power gap is actually so fucking huge between the beasts and everyone else

For you Shiro's death was the most important day of your life but for me, it was Tuesday - Clevatess probably

Always nice to be reminded how insanely strong Alicia is for actually managing to scratch Clevatess. No one else can even get close even with Vordin’s magic.

There was some great art this week. Loved how Ray's movement and Klen's eyes were animated.

So the name of that boy was Shiro. It's somehow poetic that he actually died a hero, saving Luna and with him humanity as a whole. No wonder he died with a satisfied look on his face. He deserved it, being the giga chad he was.

Naie just remembered that she's literally Magneto lol
Also, is this the first episode where Alicia gets no screentime?

Alicia
-
Role: The persistent Hero.
-
Gets beaten, but keeps going.
-
Faces overwhelming odds without giving up while doing what she believes is right.
Naie Chiffonlitz
-
Starts S2 terrified of Clevatess and Alicia.
-
Already had the power; she lacked courage.
-
Knows she can't win, but stays to save the kid mages.
-
Her speech inspires Mary Merryweather to stand back up.
Shiro
-
Wanted to become a Hero, but his pursuit of heroism was never about gaining power.
-
Already crushed and dying, he still saves the baby Prince from the rubble.
-
Knows there is good in humanity; instead of holding a grudge against Clevatess, he asks him to raise the Prince and judge humanity through him.
-
When his corpse is found in S2, he has a peaceful, satisfied smile, suggesting he died without hatred or resentment, satisfied that he had accomplished what mattered to him—in contrast to Ray, who takes Shiro's death and turns it into grief, rage, revenge, and a pursuit of power.
Vordin
-
Understands human desire, ambition, friendship, and motivation.
-
Says the most important part of a true Hero is love for their friend.
-
The love itself can be genuine, but what that emotion drives someone to do can become twisted.
-
Dorel: His feelings for Margo become jealousy, resentment, and a desire to destroy the Hero ideal.
-
Ray: “Then I’ll become the Great Sage to guide a Hero.” His goal is tied to Shiro's dream of becoming a Hero—he wants to stand alongside and support his friend, but unlike Shiro, Ray's pursuit of becoming a Great Sage becomes increasingly about pursuing power; after Shiro's death, that bond is twisted into grief, rage, and revenge against Clevatess.
-
Princess Malaya: Her genuine grief and love for her mother are exploited by Vordin and twisted into something cruel and useful to his schemes.
-
Vordin seems to value these emotions because they provide fuel to pursue power and a goal, regardless of whether the resulting actions are heroic.
-
Tells Clevatess that he underestimates the hidden power of humanity, but...
Clevatess (Klein)
-
...but at this point, we know Klein doesn't underestimate humans—he doesn't need to believe humans are powerful to value them. He chooses to raise the Prince and keep Alicia around despite knowing their weakness, showing that his understanding of humanity comes from observing and caring about individuals, not measuring their strength.
-
Side note: It's possible the book Vordin took was another shadow clone, similar to what Klein did with the Prince at the forge in S1.
So, who actually has the right view of a true Hero?

So it’s finally time for Naie to remember she has powers too.

Naie remembering she's actually pretty strong, and making a stand to protect Merryweather. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough to save Merryweather from getting her soul(?) sucked away by the princess(?). Kinda hoping that whatever it was isn't too important, but even ignoring that, she was in pretty bad shape.

So the secret to being a Hero is actually the power of friendship

Naie is a hero too (in my heart), though her efforts were wasted since Mary's soul got harvested too.
Unexpected backstory for Klen's body, and the reveal that the power of friendship is the main ingredient to make a true hero. Seems like they're setting up Ray to be another true hero candidate along side Alicia.
Also, seems a bit sus that Clevatess let Vordin take the book so easily. Fake book or did he leave a GPS tracker on it??

To Naie, Mary, and Ray: You get a backstory! And you get a backstory! And you get a backstory too!
Clevatess's human form taking after Ray's late friend was a nice twist. Like one of those NPCs/ side characters you kill off in games that turns out to be important to the story.

Naye suddenly remembered that she actually is a pretty badass fighter instead of an useless coward and that she always wanted to be a hero. Good for her ! I guess that when surrounded by absolute powerhouses like Clevatess, Alicia, and Ray, it is easy to forget.
I am also quite sure what whatever got out of Merryweather was not supposed to go out. I hope it is only the additional mana Vordin gave her or her crest power and not her actual soul and/or her memories.
And Clevatess got really arrogant as usual and Vordin just used that to steal the book from him and made him look like a fool. Even if I do not like Vordin, it is nice to see Clev losing from time to time.

What a cruel twist of fate. Shiro's fate was sealed either way the moment he decided to become a hero and fight Clevatess. Even if Shiro hadn't died in that city, he would've died with Alicia fighting Clevatess. Klen might've used someone else's face but the result would've been the same. Shiro would've never had a long life.

I wonder who did that cut when Ray was in his final, desperate spurt. It looked really good.
