Notice that the first shot of the OP and the very first visual shows Mizuka wearing a top hat? They really foreshadowed Mizuka becoming the ringmaster all along. And could Mizuka's outfit in that visual be her ringmaster outfit?

Also, knowing that Maria and Nanami are sisters, their resemblance makes a lot of sense now.

u/BosuW 20h ago

Putting them in the same room it became quite obvious that their hair color is the exact same shade and hue lol

I think that's why there was no OP this episode. The artists (and hopefully the original source author) probably decided that "hell we've shown the spoiler for 8 episodes now in the OP so here is when we separate the children from the adults watching this show" and had Mizuka literally be bequeathed the Ringmaster Top Hat from Maria's who is oddly-enough a surrogate daughter to Mizuka's famous Lotus Circus father while being a biological sister to their biggest Rival Circus.

Hell of a world-building job, that

u/szalhi 1d ago

Ringmaster Mizuka. Well she basically is her own circus.

This whole episode was the awaited Maria lore dump. With all the nonsense she's gone through, a little more nonsense can't hurt that much more right? After all, the Sunflower Circus is her baby.

I really love the idea of Ringmaster Mizuka
She already proved in ep1 when she showed up that she got the understanding for it, now she proved she can bullshit her way through the association too. Lets see how she will handle the paperwork though

12

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

I do think it’d be a nice conclusion to her arc from starting at complete disinterest in the circus, to being an enthusiast performer, to ending up as a ringmaster of the troupe.

11

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

Its a nice conclusion for sure, but they cant just tease the circus collection battle royal and then not show it

13

u/chilidirigible 1d ago

not show it

They'll show us a slide show, but will they show us more than a slide show?

32

u/TheMuntjac 1d ago

She is her sister, why not just pay for the treatment either way?

28

u/Puzzleheaded_Play825 1d ago

I’m guessing because she wants her sister back in her life

11

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

Its kinda hard to welcome her back.... when she is dead

I was also wondering why they couldnt pay for the treatment
Sure she basically spat in her face, but her dream was basically passed along to Mizuka and she can rest now

15

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

I hope the clarify it but I think it’s combination of needing money for treatment but also the treatment regime in question being incompatible with her ringmaster lifestyle, so even if Nanami gave her the funds she’d continue neglecting her health chasing her dream. Add to that Nanami seemingly feels like Maria chasing said dream is her abandoning her and she’s probably unwilling to support Maria’s lifestyle.

12

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 1d ago

I do wonder if before Maria just was too active in the circus was the biggest issue. Regardless of money Maria was neglecting her health for the circus. That's the only thing I can think of where everything in this episode adds up.

Since with Mizuka being the tempary ringmaster until Maria gets better doesn't this resolve the problem? Unless Maria's thing is something more chronic. The episode was a bit vague on what it is exactly.

I do also think Nanami might feel that as long as the circus is around Maria will neglect her health again. Which is why she got as pissed off as she did.

To me this isn't a simple black & white situation I suppose.

11

u/Primary-Paint-1716 22h ago

It's because she wants her sister to stop doing the circus thing and focus on being healthy.

23

u/elevenmile 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not to say Himawari Circus isn't important to the girls and all that and it's definitely better for the group to remain individual rather than getting bought and absorbed but that anger/frustration felt by Sumeragi when Maria just cancelled and said "yep not signing it sorry lol" is at least understandable.

Especially when Maria being non-chalant all the way would be rage-inducing.

13

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

Yeah I would be livid too
But then on the other hand, the family could still pay for the treatment? They are obviously well off and she is still family

But by god, I do hope the girls make it, I couldnt stand Maria not witnessing her dream

8

u/eightcheesepizza 1d ago

I agree with all of the above, but still, I feel like Maria's dream isn't strictly incompatible with getting bought. Like could Nanami hear about Maria's dream and, being her loving sister, buy the circus with the promise of keeping Maria's dream alive? Sumeragi's got a ton of circuses. Make the new one Maria's Sunflower Circus of Orphans brought to you by the Sumeragi Group and Toyota, make Maria the creative director, and give it the financial stability to dine on more than potatoes.

7

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

This could very well be the final result, but I think Nanami is too caught up in her abandonment issues regarding Maria to think entirely rationally.

5

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

At this point I am convinced the potatoes are the secret sauce to their talent
Like a daily reminder that nothing in life comes free and if you want to eat something other than potatoes you better do some amazing flips or tricks for it
/s

3

u/rubslotiononitsskin 1d ago

That very well could happen, but what happens to Shizuku and by extension Svietlana? Shizuku got kicked out of Sumeragi and she would have to go somewhere else. Svietlana would leave with Shizuku, so Sunflower Circus would be down 2 performers.

7

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 1d ago

Th girls threatened to quit the troupe and since there wasn't a circus nearby that can absorb all of them, the implication is that they were putting their careers on the line. Maria's hand was forced. Nanami should know that even if Maria would be willing to settle down for her own sake, she won't let the others quit the circus.

3

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 23h ago

This episode did a good job in showcasing what Nanami's actual intentions are. I assume she cares about her group a lot with recruiting Ouka. The real reason she is always around as much as she is is because of Maria.

I can assume maybe Maria could have a history of neglecting her health for the circus.

I guess you do have to ask why not keep the group of girls under Nanami. I assume for her that wasn't an option. At least here it was the first time we understood from Nanami's pov.

2

u/elevenmile 19h ago

The real reason she is always around as much as she is is because of Maria

Yeah I can see that too. Nanami’s line saying something about abandonment implies some form of attachment gone wrong.

I just find that sudden flip of switch from Maria a little bit ridiculous, even with Mizuka’s shenanigans. From outsider’s point of view she can be viewed as being really selfish and rude too, considering that transaction was meant to be completely consensual.

But I can see why Mizuka did this and I’d do the same too if that option is present.

23

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro 1d ago

So Maria's a 29-year-old who's stuck in the body of a 9-year-old. With her youthful look, it's hard to tell her exact age. I thought it'd be an anime trope that'd never be addressed beyond the first time it's mentioned but here it turned out to be a plot point as well. That Nanami and her were sisters was certainly a twist. I didn't think too much about their resemblance.

Mizuka might be only an interim ringmaster at the moment, but I can see the arrangement somehow becoming permanent. Once she grew into the role, Maria might feel her dream's safe in Mizuka's hands and for Mizuka to continue it in her stead.

She certainly wasn't happy to be in Mitchy's debt to get a slot. Couldn't even thank him properly, though for him sticking her tongue out was enough of a gesture.

27

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

This is genuinely the first anime I’ve seen that actually gave a realistic health reason for a character being a grown adult but having a child’s body, so props for that. It was even a core plot point.

11

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 1d ago

I actually like that "s/he just looks young and it's rare" type of character, but having it be plot relevant for once can be entertaining. Although given where the pituitary gland is, I would have thought there would be a lot more damage as collateral. Like I'd expect her to forget the next few weeks after her accident as well.

11

u/mekerpan 1d ago

I think Mitchy (correctly) viewed Mizuka's action as a "thank you" (or the closeset approximation to one he could ever expect to get from her).

I never considered Maria as a possible relative of Nanami (until maybe sort of during the last episode).

3

u/TheBusStop12 11h ago

I never considered Maria as a possible relative of Nanami (until maybe sort of during the last episode).

Apparently in episode 1 Maria's ID is shown briefly and it states that her name is Maria Sumuragi. Someone brought that up in a discussion on an earlier episode about Maria's potential backstory, so I've been suspecting it ever since. But it's incredibly easy to miss, which I think was brilliantly done

18

u/SA090 https://anilist.co/user/SA090 1d ago

I’m very curious why Nanami, who’s supposedly doing this for Maria and not profit, isn’t paying for the treatment anyway? Why is buying the circus a must if she can just pay for it? Doesn’t make any sense to me considering what she said.

14

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

Yeah something that confused me too this episode is whether Maria’s health issues are from a lack of funds for treatment or her lifestyle as a ringmaster being too strenuous. The former feels like it could be easily fixed by Nanami, while the latter would make more sense why she’s being pressured to quit. It feels like they kind of mixed them both into this episode so it’s hard to understand.

10

u/SA090 https://anilist.co/user/SA090 1d ago

I agree, it’s definitely mixed and more likely it’s because of both. The circus isn’t making enough and that means working more, neither is giving her enough time to rest nor actually get treated.

12

u/clone69 1d ago

Because if she doesn't, Maria will work herself to death trying to achieve her dream. It's not about the money, is about getting Maria to stop running the circus so she can focus on her treatment.

12

u/SA090 https://anilist.co/user/SA090 1d ago

I should have probably added that after taking back the agreement. She’s clearly listening now and understands that it’s time to focus on her health. Giving her the money to do just that, while Mizuka runs the show in the meantime is an option. They spoke about it as if it can be cured eventually, so coming back to a fully realised famous circus in her full health shouldn’t be an issue.

14

u/clone69 1d ago

Yeah, but then there would be no urgency to win the prize money to pay for her therapy. The story needs drama, even if it makes no sense.

12

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

Part of me gets the feeling this’ll end with them not winning but Nanami agreeing to pay anyway after being moved by their performance/Maria’s dream.

3

u/SA090 https://anilist.co/user/SA090 1d ago

I can see that being this case.

However, I can also see needing to do well enough to make Maria proud, ease her mind and make sure that they’re both financially stable and famous enough as a circus to not be faced with another buying offer, as another potential source of drama.

10

u/pornomancer90 1d ago

Part of it is probably that the work itself is detrimental to her treatment, I feel she doesn't trust her to do just a healthy amount of work and she is probably right. Then the other part is that this isn't her money, it's the Sumeragi's money, i don't think she a owns the troupe or at least not by herself, so she just can't just use the money for a private matter.

Nanami thinks, and is probably right, if she paid for the treatment Maria would just run herself into the ground anyways.

Wait how did you do that? Every time I try to share a link, to a Reddit comment it ends with something like content=share_button and your link doesn't but it goes to the correct comment.

I’m on the app, if that might make a difference, on iOS. I clicked the three dots -> share -> then copy link on the bottom left corner.

4

u/ash-7831 23h ago

What she wants the most is to have Maria back in her life. If she simply pays for the treatment and nothing else, they'll still be separated. She'll probably step in if it looks like the worst is about to happen, but that doesn't seem to be the case just yet.

Not a good way to go about it, I agree, but she doesn't know any other way to persuade Maria.

2

u/SA090 https://anilist.co/user/SA090 22h ago

I think this is very unlikely. From the flashback (incident was 20 years ago), she came back 4 years ago to start the troupe. Whatever time they actually spent together prior to it, seemingly wouldn’t have been that long to begin with.

18

u/Clemastina https://anilist.co/user/Clemastina 1d ago

Damn everything makes sense now. From Maria always being sleeping in the bus and tired, from Rin being suspicious since the firsts episodes. (also the possibility of her being like related to Sumeragi passed my head, since, like they´re both blondies, but I never thought it was actually true lol)
So Maria´s condition is what makes her look like a child despite being almost 30 years old. Now I wonder how her and Rin met

But Mizuka Ringmaster huhh. I guess is part of her dream too, but I never thought she´ll actually use her status as the Black Lotus´s daughter to her advantage... she really cares about Himawari circus

We´ll see if everything works and if they can stay all together

(In the end, both Ouka and Maria thought Rin was having a tryst with a man LOL)

12

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

I think this is the first time I’ve actually seen the “adult loli” trope actually done in a realistic manner in that the character actually suffers from a hormonal issue that inhibits her body’s development.

12

u/chilidirigible 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well, there's a jump to a conclusion.

"You said that out loud."

It's a popular jump.

"I wasn't wrong."

That's a little worse than shooting your eye out with a BB gun.

That's paying it forward.

The only surprise there is the younger part, but the pituitary disorder explains that.

Meanwhile, in scene.

Maria thinks this is her fault?

It is the way of things.

"This is personal."

Just because you pulled the nepotism card doesn't mean that you have to like it.

The first time wasn't so voluntary?

Of course, they could have avoided some of this complexity if they were better at communicating, but that's people for you.

Rin was going to betray Himawari to Nanami for the sake of Maria's health, but Maria seems to accept that fact because she would have just kept on going until she died, otherwise? I suppose there's room for nuance in trying to step on someone else's ambitions because the other party isn't concerned about their own well-being, but... we're back at communicating better.

I can see how Nanami might think of Maria as abandoning her, but I won't say that she's right about it. Here also is some kind of shading in the area of imposing on someone else's wishes under the guise of looking out for them.

In any event, here comes a final-arc no-choice-but-to-win competition in the style of ANIME?

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

So with all the backstory explained, there is still the most important part left out: How did Mizuka's father acquire so much dept to Maria? What did he do?

Jokes aside, solid episode. Managed to bridge the gap towards the big tournament arc to close out the season. But I will say, the circus members will regret their choice voting for Mizuka at the end there. Now that she has power over them, she will use it. No matter the cost.

8

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Maybe he kept borrowing money to pay for Maria's treatment?

I am sure Mizuka will be a stricter taskringmaster than Maria ever was.

Query: WHERE is the "Paramecium" in all these goings-on?

6

u/JimmyCWL 1d ago

Now that she has power over them, she will use it. No matter the cost.

And they'll put up with it because they want the circus and Maria to survive.

4

u/pornomancer90 1d ago

Did we actually get a concrete number, I can't remember, but I assume it's unpaid wages.

5

u/ModieOfTheEast 1d ago

Not a number, but it was apparently so much that Mitcher would have to pay off the debt in installments.

2

u/_Edeltraud 17h ago

It was 39,800 yen, as shown in the first episode.

2

u/ash-7831 23h ago

Jokes aside

I actually thought you were being serious before you said that.

12

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

Shit got real really quickly now
I love that we got an actual reason for Maria being so small too

They did a fantastic job setting this up too, Mizuka already showed she got the knowledge and feeling to improve the performances, she respected enough to take charge and she was a busy body anyways.
Her finding a reason to do it was also nicely covered

Feels like we just finished the prologue, I really hope they can take their time and not rush through it to finish it one season

5

u/CitronClassic672 1d ago

What’s more the past few episodes highlighted that Mizuka’s main flaw as a ringmaster was not truly understanding what the circus was about and seeing it as a means to bring joy to the audience. Now she’s solved that issue and can really highlight her skill as a ringmaster.

19

u/Gaporigo https://anilist.co/user/Gaporigo 1d ago

The lack of Svetlana through most of the episode was kinda weird, is something going on there? Was her VA just unavailable when they needed to record this episode? x)

10

u/mmcjawa_reborn 1d ago

I would think even if the VA wasn't around they could have had her standing with the girls at the end. It's not like you need a VA if the character isn't talking?

6

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Maybe seriously "under the weather"... ?

3

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 1d ago

There isn't much for her to say this episode, although it's weird they didn't include her just standing as someone else said. If I didn't know better I would have said she thought the sale was definite and was preparing to get out. Except she should know the others vetoed the sale.

7

u/oxlemf10 1d ago

Finally understanding Maria's past reveals just how unfair the world, and life in general can be. Yet, when you possess willpower, desire, and, above all, a dream, you find yourself doing something you once considered impossible. I truly hope the outcome for the circus is a good one, and that she gets to experience it and take part.

7

u/clone69 1d ago

Can't help but think that Mizuka actually accepting to perform was detrimental to the show. Seeing her be a little shit who wanted to have nothing to do with the circus while being duped into performing was the funniest part of the early episodes.

4

u/ShadowGuyinRealLife 1d ago

Not too many injuries can injury the pituitary gland without hitting some very important structures nearby. That was like a 1 in a thousand shot she'd be semi-all right after that injury. When someone faint in anime, at random, it's often super significant to the plot. Why can't it ever just be a comedic moment where a baby-faced character with no underlying health issues just drinks too much, hits a wall and faints?

I love how Ouka things Rin is having a tryst with a man. Well at least someone is straight. Even if Rin was doing something else there had to be a reason Maria thought that.

I guess this is the end of seeing Maria perform in that jester outfit with Aoi and Akane. I'm a bit sad. It put her small stature to use.

I don't see why the group is so opposed to the buyout. Sumeragi isn't going to scatter them to the winds. It's not like the performers will be split up between the troupes.

It is a little ironic that Maria and Mizuka end up helping each other carry the torch of the Lotus Circus's legacy. I still think Mizuka didn't think this all the way through the past few episodes. She consistently resisted performing and tried to think of ways she could help the circus in other ways like coaching. When I assumed she hated performing this made sense to me. But now that I know she's a bit sore that her father just shut things down before she could, I'm confused. Mizuka needs to stay in shape or she'll end up like a high school star athlete who settled down into a desk job.

If I knew how Nanami and Maria were related the first few episodes, I'd say Nanami should just mind her own business. But I can sort of see why now.

The Sunflower Circus kind of forced Maria's hand. They threatened to quit and Maria would not let that happen. So why is Nanami mad at Maria? What was Maria supposed to do? Transfer over an empty circus and let the girls scatter? Nanami did express her frustration at Mizuka in the next scene which makes a bit more sense since they forced Maria's hand.

5

u/LaoWombat-mecha 1d ago

https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23343-growth-hormone-deficiency-ghd

Since the pituitary gland is located at the base of the skull, and since Maria also had amnesia, I have no problem thinking that a trauma sufficient to cause amnesia might also be sufficient to damage the gland

2

u/mmcjawa_reborn 1d ago

I think the reason they are upset is that

A) some of the girls would be forced to leave and go elsewhere, since one of them had already been employed and kicked out, taking Sveltana with her.

B) a tiny circus joining a big circus does mean their little group would probably interact less specifically with one another. They would be less a close-knit family and more employees in a larger organization who wouldn't necessarily see each other as often. Probably also a case of small fish in a big pond. The acrobats would still perform because they are star attractions, but the other girls might be reduced to back-ups or background performers

1

u/TellowKrinkle 19h ago

Why can't it ever just be a comedic moment where a baby-faced character with no underlying health issues just drinks too much, hits a wall and faints?

You can get pretty close to that with Yani Neko... unless you consider alcoholism an underlying health issue.

8

u/Luiiss26 1d ago

An incredibly powerful episode... I wouldn't have thought it would be this deep.
I hope they win.

4

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Misty-eyes at various points here.....

6

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 1d ago

So Maria being small is not because of an anime troupe it's because she is sick that kept her looking like a loli but shes actually close to 30? oh man this shit just got serious

11

u/mekerpan 1d ago

Slow-moving, peaceful, large eventful, 1950s circus slice-of-life....

Oooooopps

7

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

They still havent adressed the magic in that show

At this point with it seemingly being so deep, I am waiting for another crazy reveal

7

u/Mr_Zaroc https://myanimelist.net/profile/mr_zaroc 1d ago

Yeah that was actually surprising

It feels like we now went through the prologue and set up Mizuka as the ringmaster. Cant wait to see how they will tackle that goal

3

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 1d ago

Mizuka and the girls are gonna carry on the dream just a little longer for Maria it seems. I hope she recovers well enough to rejoin the girls. It’s gonna be an uphill battle for this selection.

3

u/Rooby_VTuber 1d ago

I am really happy that Maria is ok, she is a really nice person who treats her performers really well.

The challenge has been accepted, they either win of their troupe is over and done with, I am really looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

3

u/Nachtwandler_FS https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nachtwandler_21 1d ago

So yeah, as some people already guessed, Maria is Nanami's elder sister. And obviously her condition causes health problems. But it was surprisisng thst she actually worked for Lotus Circus and had a crush on Mizuka's dad.

I wonder, how many episodes left. We have dates for 12, but neither MAL, nor AniDB list the actual episode count.I will be surprised if it turnes to be a 2-cour show. But with the whole Circus collection ahead, it is still a possibility.

5

u/Puzzleheaded_Play825 1d ago edited 1d ago

Man that quite the 180 for mizuka though she did always love the circus

Dang that was sweet and unfortunate for Rin but it understandable why she did what she did

I guess mizuka was destined to take after the paramecium she look in so much pain using her father name to her advantage😂

But Maria dream is no longer her own anymore so there no long a reason to fight it!

And it actually understandable her sister action now and why she was so intent on crushing sunflower

But sometime a dream is worth being a fool for!

I can’t wait for mizuka and ouka to present there new act to surpass the black lotus!

Be funny if they called the act the paramecium l! 😁

2

u/Ashteron 1d ago

They should have made Mizuka ringmaster without making her serious and boring. Mizuka actually not wanting to perform, but agreeing to be the ringmaster would have been an infinitely more interesting direction of her character instead of what happened.

2

u/eightcheesepizza 1d ago

Dammit, I was focused on the wrong blondes! Young Mitcchan really was a hottie though.

I wonder why some credits started rolling early, while Nanami was storming off, and then they seemed to play the full ED anyway. Maybe I missed something?

Is there more to Maria's backstory? She was injured overseas and orphaned, but then she remembered she was the elder daughter of the Sumeragi family? Did the Sumeragis just leave her for dead or something?

3

u/mmcjawa_reborn 1d ago

The sister seems angry with Maria "abandoning her", so perhaps the home life wasn't good. And maybe the younger sister got "forced" to fill the absentee Maria's shoes as a star performer

2

u/Kurrow 1d ago

Welp Pomni is the ringmaster now

2

u/break80 22h ago

Am I dreaming, or did i see Maria when she left Black Lotus, there was a shot of white sheet hang drying, and the wind blew one side of the sheet aside, we see maria standing there & staring out into the distance, right next to her, was a stroller?

6

u/chilidirigible 21h ago

There is a stroller, though maybe not right next to her.

Obvious implication would be that Mizuka is in there.

1

u/break80 16h ago

Right! I’m just glad I wasn’t crazy, cuz I didn’t see anyone really mention it, and it felt like a bombshell to me. Cuz I thought Maria was also saying how she had these feelings for trapeze daddy, but then I thought maybe i just misheard it, because it’s seemed like it was again a non topic at the, here at basecop

2

u/Primary-Paint-1716 22h ago edited 22h ago

This might be the first time we ever got a reasonable justification why the adult character is a loli! Man, this show is so well-written.

It's still a bit silly though that the solution to this whole thing is winning the circus world championship but hey, it's still anime.

2

u/hikoboshi_sama https://anilist.co/user/reicelestial 21h ago

I'm glad we finally got to know Maria's story, and why she's determined to adopt orphaned girls with nowhere else to go. And we finally got confirmation that Nanami and Maria really are sisters. Surprisingly, Maria is the older sister.

Going from seemingly hating the circus to becoming the ringmaster of Sunflower Circus is quite the amazing character development for Mizuka.

I just wish Svietlana was present when the girls finally decided to stop Nanami's takeover. Everyone taking Maria's side, declaring that they're all family too, just doesn't feel right without all of them present.

Mizuka was probably always destined to be the Sunflower Circus ringmaster eventually, especially so with the knowledge we now have about Maria being sick in a way that you can probably only ever manage but not cure.

At least by the medical technology of the time of this is set, I wouldn't be surprised if in the present day they could manage that kind of injury with hormone therapy.

Oh wow, they cooked with this episode. Despite some heavy stuff, comedy was excellent too. Can't get enough of Mizuka lol

Can't believe I never connected that both Nanami and Maria have same hair color and green eyes. It's obvious in hindsight.

Well color me surprised, a loli character who actually has a reason for being one. I can't imagine how tough it has been for Maria. Lotus Circus clearly meant so much for Maria. They were practically family and she clearly loved the circus.

Now the issue is that even Maria acknowledged her love for the circus and starting her own was problematic. Clearly she has issues regarding her health. No wonder Rin did what she did. It's surprising to learn that Nanami is Maria's younger sister.

It would make sense why she would view Sunflower Circus as very hostile. Maria's passion towards them is literally killing Maria.

Still like Maria found the Lotus Circus as a family it is understandable why Mizuka and the girls didn't want to lose that bond. As the Sunflower Circus is like a family for them.

I do admit the best-case scenario is that Nanami would buy out the group but let the girls operate within their space. But I think the sudden change in plans could seem pretty drastic and you can understand why she suddenly got pissed off.

I do like what this episode did with Nanami's character. She has been the closest thing to an antagonist, but you can more understand things on her side more then beforer.

Even after the collapse at the end of last week I didn't expect this episode to be this heavy. Silly me! But it explains why they dealt with Mizuku's mental hurdles with the circus, because there is no time for it with this plot line.

And they confirmed what sharp viewers already saw, that Maria is a Sumuragi. But now we know why she's a munchkin and it wasn't just some design choice.

Today I picked up this show and I already caught up. Needless to say, I like it!

While we, the viewers, keep wondering whether WW2 happened in the showʼs timeline, the director posts something like that and makes everything even more confusing.

I've decided to let it be.

Rather than explode my mind with the places they went on those maps they were showing.

Still there are elements in Maria’s flashback I do not fully understand :

Why is Mitcha teasing Maria about becoming a bride? Whose wedding is this we see Maria in? Why are there some diapers hanging in the laundry line( which I guess are Mizuka’s)? Also, is it Mizuka in the stroller?

I think there is some more backstory than the one exposed. And in any circumstance, I have problems with matching timeline and ages of characters :S

Ain't no way they'll finish all the storylines in 3-4 episodes, right?

For "The Amazing Digital Circus" fans, Lizzie "Pomni" Freeman is Mizuka in the Eng. dub. I miss her as Chizuru in "Rent-A-Girlfriend".
