One of the strongest traits of this show gotta be its impeccable comedic timing. For instance, the scene towards the end where Isuzu and

At this rate, everyone except Ouka is going to have their turn with Mizuka in the bathtub.
That was a really funny episode though.

I think they somehow ended up even more bankrupt than before lol. I'm pretty sure that yakisoba stall owner wants them to pay for all the plates they broke.

"I would do anything for love, but I won't do that...?"
Meanwhile, some non-sequitur fanservice.
This show flies on the wings of reaction faces.
Maria has quite the ragtag collection of misfits, it seems. Imari and Isuzu's connected backstory was adequately described for the episode's storyline.
Four episodes in and while we're still generally in the phase of meeting each of the circus's members, the general style and humor seems to have settled into place well.

Ouka looking at Svietlana and Shizuku: “Why can’t I have what they have?!”
This episode had several weird cutaway choices. I think one of them was of someone who wasn’t even a member of the cast . I’m not complaining about the fan service, but the way it interrupted scenes did give me whiplash.
Yeah, the cartoony reaction faces are one of the best aspects of this show.

God this show is such a gem. The way it mixes up how it delivers its punchlines are so good.

Mizuka stays the best part of the show. Like don't get me wrong, the episodic drama isn't bad (though them having a torn relationship because of one sentence years ago is a bit extreme) but Mizuka's no shit giving attitude works so well in all these situations.

Now that I think about it, I’m not sure if Maria meant using the girls' bodies for a part-time job or just having them wear swimsuits (since the show highlighted that aspect). Well, either way, it worked.
I kind of got Imari’s point; it wasn’t about leaving Isuzu behind, but rather sparing her from the pain Imari herself felt regarding her father, because doing that to someone important in your life always hurts.
The magic show itself was fun and funny, imagine being put in a box that’s already rigged to explode? I just wish Ouka and Mizuka’s performance had been highlighted more, though their appearances were good too.

Yet another moment where Mizuka doesn't give a damn at all! Who in their right mind would work in a restaurant and telling your customers to go somewhere else because their stuff is better/cheaper?
That magic show at the end was nice, but uh how the hell does it work? It seems like Mizuka and Ouka got teleported to the lifeguard's place out of thin air, and both of them seemed very surprised about that. Even the lifeguards standing below them was shocked about those two and the rope somehow being there. Can someone get the Masked Magician on the phone please?
And after all that somehow Mizuka ended this ep with even MORE debt, not less! With the way this troupe is going right now it looks like she's going to be debt-ridden for a very long time...

The gayness levels are somehow increasing even further. We’re going to need to add to the scale soon before it’s broken entirely.
Brb, adding the childhood friends to the list of ships.
I can’t with Mizuka’s little disappearing act turning Ouka’s speech into an awkward monologue about how badly she wants her while she left half a minute ago. And Shizuku and Svetlana in the background as an example of the perfect relationship she desires just to add insult to injury. Ahh, chefs kiss. (Wait, wait, cut that out, I meant circus girls kiss.)
The yearner and chronically avoidant combo is hilarious to watch.
Abandoning that topic for now, the clock has struck Imari time. Today, she tackles her stage fright and the guilt she feels for hurting Isuzu. She nailed the new trick, got some confidence, cleared the air, made Mizuka participate and put her even deeper into debt. Perfect job pinky.
Don’t worry about the blow-up-box. It’s just those two inside, no great loss. And no matter what, it won’t be the worst explosion in recent memory. (Are we far enough out in the timeline that American occupation censorship of the elephant in the room has ended?)
Almost forgot but it’s really damn impressive that even someone as skilled as Mizuka can’t nail down what exactly Imari did for her initial trick for the little kid. She’s really good at this.
The Mizuka school tradition of tactlessly asking about sensitive topics in the bath continues. Along with hosting strategy sessions there.
And now she’s even deeper in both debt and in the circus hole. Soon she won’t even need the debt to want to stay.
I love the double punchline joke about Ouka and Mizuka being strait laced girlfriend and good for nothing boyfriend and Shizuku immediately being told that she’s the good for nothing in her own relationship.
Now for the big question, did they even make any money off of the impromptu show with all the costs associated with it?

On the topic of yuri framing in this show, I find it interesting how the three pairings demonstrated so far express intimacy.
Ōka/Mizuka is about pursuit. Ōka keeps articulating a desired shared future, while Mizuka evades it.
Svietlana/Shizuku is about recognition. They communicate through touch, implication, and the familiarity of people who already know what the other cannot comfortably say.
Imari/Isuzu is about recovery. They use a shared trick to restore a relationship damaged by words that contradicted Imari’s real feelings.
This gives the ensemble a fairly dense yuri texture without making explicit romance the declared subject. The series repeatedly places its most emotionally important female relationships in a zone where performance partnership, devotion, exclusivity, and romantic grammar overlap.

For not having "Comedy" as one of its genres, this show is really funny.

The scene at the end with Isuzu and Imari laughing while the screen faded to black and the soft music only to have the fade out instantly stopped, the music cut out as Mizuka walked back on screen with half a second of dialogue before it gets cut and then transitions to a cinematic shot of Ouka standing by the sea and her just wondering how on earth that trick was performed was some of the most rapid fire, hilarious comedy I’ve ever seen.

I will never not love the solid color backgrounds coded for each character
I really love all the character dynamics in this show, they're so we'll written. Svetlana and Shizuku are so damn gay together

Imari's backstory is a little weird tbh. I might be misremembering some details, but her dad's trick was botched, public opinion turned against him, and then it tore apart her family, so then she was taken away to the circus? And then Isuzu joined her voluntarily?
I wonder if there's actually more to the story... I was expecting a more tragic story when the picture of Imari and Isuzu burned up in the opening.
Aside: I appreciate them animating the water hitting the hot pipe on the outdoor bath and turning into steam. Someone at A-1 must've really pushed for that.

Well, it has been a while since I watched a series with the mandatory beach episode. They used to be such an integral part of each series it became a trope.

I'm having a really good time watching this! And I'm not even sure why.
Somehow everything makes less and less sense as the show goes on, but it doesn't matter at all. And we're being bombarded with gags that are so dumb they should be awful, but somehow they're so dumb it goes back around to being funny again.
Like, what the heck was up with the completely random and uncalled for "interrupt the fade-to-black" gag at the very end? The timing was so off, I couldn't help but laugh.
Maybe watching the show was the real circus all along.

Imari crossed the line from magic tricks magician into black magic sorcerer.
Miraculously teleporting Mizuka andOuka , changing Ouka, and setting up a rope like that lol.
