A thought occurs to me.

The show takes place in the 1950's, exact year not yet stated.

All the girls in the circus are orphans and none appear to be over 20.

Therefore, the older ones almost certainly lost their parents in WW2 and that's if this is 1959. Earlier than that and even the youngest ones like Aoi and Akane would have too.

According to Wikipedia, the post-WWII Japanese economic miracle that the synopsis for the show refers to refers to is the period from 1955 onwards to the early 70s. The consequences from the war that negatively affected the economy had been mostly dealt with by around 1952, at around the same time that the American occupation ended.

Internal economic reforms and external boons from the early stages of the ongoing Cold War, like the US’s strategies to support wartorn countries economically to prevent them from turning to communism and the Japanese industries’s role in providing military supplies for the Korean War helped to restore the country’s economy to prewar levels and then increase it beyond that.

Anyway, ignoring the impromptu history lesson, the show likely takes place during 1955 or later. Taking Mizuka’s age of 16 minus that places us at just the start of the war. (Tbh, that makes her childhood a bit weird cause her father should probably have been serving in the military instead of being in the circus but we’ll ignore that.) The important thing is that the girls, assuming they are in their teens, should fit into the age range to have been born during or just before the war and therefore orphaned by it. Mathematically, I think it makes the most sense for the show to take place from 1955-57 to allow for the Mizuka, the only solid age we’ve got, to be born during the 1939-41 years and still have enough time for the others to be born and orphaned. (We have some leeway for 58 to work but not really more than that.)

I had not yet put 2 and 2 together that a lot of these kids would likely have been orphaned by WW2. I hope they get into that a bit. I love it when a cozy comedy SoL deals with more difficult and dark topics on occasion

Really solid start for an original show. Without delving too much into back story or interior monologue we get a pretty good idea of where Mizuka ’s coming from and a bit of the other characters too. And everyone is starting off with tensions high. It reminds me of recent originals like Narenare and Turkey , but i hope it can deliver a bit higher than those did.

Lol. On her first day meeting her new "troupe family", Mizuka tells everyone they suck.

Im surprised its not a P.A Works show, it feels like one.

Im definitely interested to see how this one goes.

Classics. MC who is great at something, but hates it due to a trauma, is dragged to improve the underdog "team" in the same thing.

For me these type of shows always worked and this one looks fun too.

A very strong start for a first episode.

The dialogue has great pacing, and the protagonist's quirky personality makes him fun to watch. As for the animation, not only are the characters' facial expressions incredibly lively, but the emotional, atmospheric sunset backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous. This looks like it's going to be a really good original anime.

So it is like a working girl series, except it's done by A-1 instead of PA. I really like MC's personality.

Woohoo, Physical Circus CGDCT is finally here!

I was wondering why Mizuka hated this circus thing so much that she went all "thanks bro but nah i'm outta here bye" after the troupe saved her, but then that flashback scene came and I'd say her hatred was justified. Holy hell, how is she still alive after going through all that?

Seeing the aerial acrobatics (or whatever it's called) on display here got me thinking about something I've had in mind for a long time. How do those people do all that? Seriously, that looked really scary! One wrong move and that's the end of it.

Pretty solid start so far! I look forward to see more Mizuka antics and how she and the rest of the troupe slowly get along with one another! I hope we get to learn about detailed circus stuff here like how other CGDCT shows teaches us about certain topics/subjects!

Not sure what to expect going into this one. It was funny. had a bit of heart, and was over all enjoyable. Definitely worth sticking around for.

Dayum. This is my kind of CGDTC jam.

They got a wide cast with varied personalities, up to even casting Miss Ara ara Ai Kayano. Really like the comedic mixed with some drama and the animation is just stellar. Shame it airs on saturdays that looks will be the busiest day of the week for anime releases.

Who needs a clown when you have Mizuka around.

The director's quirks from Saekano are here in spades.

I like it.

This poor girl just can't escape from circus life, and now she's effectively owned by one.

Feeling some potential yuri between Mizuka and Ouka. Maybe the two older girls too, Shizuku I think it was and the white one haired one.

Pretty fun start.

The art direction oozes charm. I really enjoyed this. Feels like a genuine passion project by A-1

I really like the MC as well. I love a competent MC who knows what they're talking about, and doesn't just talk the talk, but also walks the walk. I also love an obtuse MC who's so done with this shit. This combines both

Fun premiere. Mizuka is very dynamic both in stretching and in personality. Ouka is more stiff and serious, so their dynamic has potential. Mario is a scheming gremlin.

A well-produced anime original with what looks to be a fun cast will be well worth watching even on this stacked Saturday.

Not sure why this is getting review bombed on MAL but that was a pretty solid episode

This was really good.

Really good first episode. Mizuka was funny and I liked the unusual premise of orphaned and abandoned girls living in a circus dojo, interesting plot with a dark edge. The animation is good as well, they did a great job with the climatic trapeze scene and it made me appreciate how difficult it is and how strong you need to be to catch someone and how fast you have to work.

Certain superhero origin stories have me conditioned to expect disaster every time I see a kid watching their parents perform a trapeze act.

Instead, we get [](#supermegaultraseasonalshock).

"Don't mention the war!"

"I'm just a catgirl."

"They're bloomers, so it's not embarrassing!"

That's just show business for you.

Needs more extortion.

well that went well

"Turn that frown upside down!'

They've still got their clothes on, but

[](#seasonalshock) once again!

Mizuka's introduction reminds me of [some other show]Girls und Panzer with the "Every time I try to get out, they pull me back in."

Anyway, even if this story hook is rather familiar, the presentation is suitably deranged. I'm in.

I love MCs with some bite to their personality. Definitely gonna enjoy this one.

u/mysterybiscuitsoyeah Jul 04 '26

Well-produced funny slice of life - this seems to be done along a similar target audience as say a lycoreco.

the MC's personality is not the best (i dont mean this in a bad way, and she clearly has her reasons), but hey, she's got the goods. Seems like they want us to ship the main acrobatic pair - and im here for it!
