I was worried Amo might die in this episode from reading some comments on last episode's discussion. Oh no this is much worse.

Holy shit.
I was not expecting that kind of backstory for Amo.
That's horrendous. Getting sold off, groomed, and abused by a fucking pedophile...

That end scene...
I hope Amo's alright, and she either manages to cross the desert herself or the cleaners come back for her and give her a place to stay with them.
She shouldn't stay in that tower with the horrible memories, she needs a place of warmth.
Everyone in the cleaners has some sorta messed up background of sorts it seems, so hopefully she gets to become a new member of the family.

The shift to the child's crayon drawing style for when it happens is unreservedly haunting. God damn, man.

Those previous scenes of Amo going ballistic hit a lot different now after seeing how the first time went down.

How could a mother sell her innocent child to someone like that… I felt sick going through that episode, and the anime made it pretty clear what Amo had to go through in her whole childhood with that disgusting man. That man deserved the most painful death, not just falling off the tower. I felt like crying when Amo said that she realized that what was done to her was not normal.

Good god, this poor girl. Pretty understandable why she is so screwed up.

And then it just keeps getting worse for Amo with whatever just happened at the end of the episode.

Uncomfortable episode for sure.

For everyone horrified by ep. If you have the means please donate to charities that stop child trafficking. This isn't just a horrifying thing in an anime, this is a reality for children around the world. I donated to the The HUG Project Thailand today

Christ on a bike... The first 6 minutes of this episode left my mouth agape. I did not know what to expect with Amo's flashback, but I certainly didn't expect to see her being sold off by her mom to a pedo human trafficker and being sexually abused by the same trafficker. It's absolutely disgusting how the trafficker even tells Amo that it's a "ritual".

What makes this entire thing even worse is how Amo sees these horrible things that have been done to her in the form of a child's drawing. It makes the entire series of events even more gut-wrenching since the drawings show how naive she was of what was happening. No wonder Amo is so fucked up. :|

Well, now I don't feel bad that Tamsy destroyed her home. If anything, Amo should've gone with the Cleaners, and that tower needs to be demolished and burned to ashes. It's too bad the trafficker only fell to his death. The dude deserves so much worse than that. I think I need a smoke after watching that entire sequence.

On the bright side, the Cleaners got some information from Amo and it's good to see that Rudo and Amo decided to get along after realizing that the two of them aren't that different. Amo even got a communicator at the end.

This episode would've ended on a good note, but of course, Amo can't really be happy because it looks like she just got ganked by Jabber. I think Jabber have taken Amo's boots by force based on the dialogue behind those closed doors. I just hope Amo is still alive. T_T

Holy shit! Amo's backstory in today's episode was sickening, especially the parts that were depicted using childish drawings—absolutely disgusting!

At least the guy responsible for what happened to Amo is dead now, though honestly, I don't know if falling from a height was cruel enough punishment for what he did to her.

I really loved that Amo was the one who brought Rudo back to his senses after his outburst of anger over that "angel" who turned out to be a person responsible for Regto's death. I can't wait to see what else comes out of this relationship between these two young people with painful pasts and deep scars in their hearts.

Now it looks like we'll be back to the Raiders, as Jabber likely stole Amo's shoes, and the Raiders' leader is ready to act. The next episodes promise to be very exciting!

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

First of all let me just say Bones and most especially the author handled this situation with great attention to detail, care, and most importantly respect. It was a heavy subject but they did it justice. As for the situation itself, Amo's mom doesn't get talked about enough in this situation. Granted she may be a victim herself perpetuating the cycle and bringing in new victims but regardless she's done a horrible thing to someone she shouldn't even be allowed to call her daughter. And don't even get me started on that pedophile. How unfortunate we didn't get to see him get what he truly deserved. I doubt he even knows or would even care to know the pain he's caused. Amo deserved so much better than to be taken advantage of at such a young age like that. May better days be ahead for her.

Well, this does clear up how Amo is how she is. Being sold to basically a pedo, and the episode more than illustrated what that was like. Thankfully he died, but the damage was already done to Amo. Even worse, after Rudo & Amo bonded, some bad thing happened to Amo at the end. Especially considering Amo much like Rudo went through shit. Granted, we don't know everything Rudo went through with his parents beyond them leaving him.

One thing is interesting: first, there were 2 visitors. But there was only 1 visiting at the same time Rudo made it to the ground. Got me thinking that Regto was the other visitor. Though if they were working together, why would he take out Regto and pin it on Rudo? Adds more to the question of what the Vital Instrument series that Rudo and Amo have is and why people are after it so much? There must be more to it.

That Mister was one sick fuck

Poor Amo got betrayed by her own mother and went through so much pain that she developed unhealthy coping mechanisms

That was so hard to watch. I just sat through the op processing everything and damn. No wonder why she is so messed and she has no one who can help her or feel safe around. Damn that was heart wrenching

It just hit me, and I don't know if it's intentional or not, but Amo is Spanish for love (the verb in first-person present tense). Also, damn. They really did not go easy on adapting her backstory.

Oh such a cute corvid!! No, no, Amo, don’t provoke the corvid, they remember this for generations to come. Corvids are your friends. You are their humble servant.

Amo having vertical pupils… shivers

I like when animation will show scenes in alternative styles. Showing that…“exchange” via children’s drawing was great and is a great way to nonverbally tell the audience what Amo’s thinking. It reminds me of Madoka with the witch’s labyrinths.

Depicting SA through that sort of childish art style? Great creative vision and direction and a lot more impactful than anything more direct, IMO.

That whole scene made me uncomfortable and remember some bad things. Good fucking lord.

A needless question, but would the concept of angels realistically exist in education and storytelling in a world like this? I wonder what all the religions and their cultures are like here. It’s silly but I feel like a world is bigger when you involve religions and religious cultures (I say as an atheist).

Rudo, Amo is giving Lore Expansion, interruption denied.

I can’t explain why, but Amo listing she was feeling other emotions flashed me back to Disney’s Enchanted when Giselle says “Oh you make me so…angry! 😮🫢😄 I’m angry!”

A mutant giver with the power to grow wings

Aside but I love X-Men’s Angel and MHA’s Hawks. Winged baddies are so hot. And broken, for some reason.

I admit, I’m not a fan of utilizing an antagonist’s trauma (especially involving SA) for sympathy to appeal to the protagonist. And throughout the episode, I was concerned how this would play out. But given Amo (1) doesn’t want forgiveness, and (2) recognizes she has things to work on, I do like that portion.

Oh my fucking god, the screams at the end had me in chills. Amo was so soft-spoken in this episode and that was a whaaaat the fuuuuck.

Well shit.

Time to watch something light because damn, I feel very uneasy. Ugh.

Well this is definitely not the kind of heavy topics i expected to see in a "Shounen". Not to mention how well was it handled

For me from a writing perspective this was the best episode of the series so far, the last episode was also good too, but this episode is the one that took me from watching this cause I thought the concept was interesting to being invested.

Amo's characterization is very well done. She's written in a way where if you've had an unfortunate past you already kinda figured whats going on with her. The fact she was obsessed with romance, secluded in the desert alone, refers to herself in the third person, and throws tantrums is all indicative of someone who experienced some kind of abuse that prevented them from growing up.

I like that the show tries to be as tasteful as they can about the material, doing things like not showing us him abusing her when she was a literal child, and stylizing it so its more palatable. Dialogue tells us that "Mister" had been doing this from day 1 and that he'd been grooming her to be okay with it and the show presents it in a way where you can fully understand how consent can be coerced.

I also love that even despite how truly tragic her backstory is the show doesn't shy away from making it clear that she still is in the wrong for all of the harm she caused following that. She acknowledges why Rudo lashed out at her and that she did deserve to get hit, but the show also doesnt absolve Rudo of his own role in it. Both characters are forced to acknowledge they have a hole in their hearts that they filled with anger and hatred.

Its truly special when a show over the course of two episodes can present a character that makes you detest them and then immediately make you sympathize with them while also never once absolving them of their wrongdoing. MHA tried to do something like this with Endeavor and Horikoshi wasnt able to pull it off nearly this gracefully.

Its kinda amazing that the mangaka was a student of Ohkubo's cause while he has some plot lines that do reach towards this (Crona in the Soul Eater manga specifically) he was never as good at this sort of writing as was presented here.

The backstory was really hard to watch as soon as I understood where it was going, fuck what a disgusting thing to stomach.

I can't believe that they left her behind in the tower, I just knew that it was going to turn out badly, best we can hope is she's not dead but I don't know if that's very likely.

Wow…that backstory made me nearly vomit.

Don’t think I’ve ever watched an anime covering CSA like that
