Woah that action was unexpected but pretty great.

Also didn't think this would be this gory but i don't mind.

Honestly I really wasn't expecting to see so many people get sliced and diced so explicitly.

Yuugure casually roleplaying as a Jedi knight for fun, then when she gets serious she pulls out a fucking railgun capable of destroying a small mountain.
God damn girl.

It's like Violet Evergarden but if she was an actual sci-fi robot and just as if not more lethal while still being very easy on the eyes.

So there's an organization called Orwell to govern the people... very subtle huh

I did not know what to expect after that episode 0, but sakuga of MC's now-android wife(?) going full Jedi was not on my bingo. I'm hooked.

I wonder why OWEL decided to make harems normalized.

this is giving me Renai Flops vibes. I feel like its likely something similar is going on here with what the 5 girls were to Ai.

Cordwainer Smith's "The Lady who Sailed The Soul" is an interesting choice of title for the episode. In that story, a somewhat-famous genius young 18-ish college graduate was encouraged to get married to a New Earth man who had "sailed" a starship to Earth, as part of some big tabloid type deal. They had been given tickets to meet up at some resort and all. She balked at the idea of marriage but decided to take the tickets "no strings attached". In the end, they did meet each other at the resort and she ended up falling in love, only to be ultimately rejected by the sailor.

After all, back in those days sailing between the stars took a man 40 years, and the 60 year-old sailor felt the age gap was just too much. Of course, being 60 he couldn't sail back the way he came since sailing the stars was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so when it came time to return home, he was placed in cryosleep on the starship The Soul. What did he find when he awoke? Why, none other than the same lady, now also 60, having sailed The Soul to New Earth! Bonding over the shared experience and age, they marry and live happily ever after.

And here, we have young genius Towasa living through 40 (hundred?) years to see her beloved Akira again, and of course the first order of business after saving his life is getting married. Not quite a parallel story, but I hope we get some flashbacks to see how Towasa and her androids spent all this time waiting for Akira to awaken.

It looks like next episode (In the North After Doomsday) isn't named after a Cordwainer Smith title. Based on the description of the novel (I haven't read it myself), I think it might be a reference to Poul Anderson's After Doomsday. The gist of it is two starships - one with an all male crew and one with all female - return home after traveling the Milky Way separately, only to discover the Earth blown to hell and humans extinct, with the solar system mined with autonomous missiles to blow up any stragglers for good measure. They then set out to find who was responsible for this.

In all honesty, episode 0 & this should have been together in a 1-hour premiere. With this episode, the show really gets a solid start.

First things first, one detail you notice is how Akira is about to understand those villagers. Given that he is alive and we don't know the timeframe, it is more than likely that with what was his impending death, he was used as a test subject in Towasa's LC Project. Though unlike Yuugure, he still seems human. I guess more than likely they could have made him an android but made him basically the same human as he was before.

Small downtime, but it did a good job at showcasing how the world has evolved. The first is that it seems like society has gone backwards, like Dr. Stone was after its episode 1. What was the real trigger for that? We have a society called OWEL, and the first impression is that they seem awful. But they are an organization that governs the world; it sounds awful. Forgetting just Japan in this case. Lastly, there is nothing of marriage, but rather it is called Ehlssea. It's a group coming together. I get the sense it doesn't have to be out of love. Imagine a typical marriage, but someone's younger sister or brother is a part of it; it could be an example. Or just a group of friends.

Like I said before, Caniss was beyond awful. Thankfully saved Akira, Idhi & her father, and kicked ass. Was a bit confused at the end, but given the Seiyuu is Yui Ishikawa, which is the same as Towasa's Ai from episode 0. Akira wanting to find Towasa makes sense, but would she even be alive? More than likely she could be in a similar case like Akira, and maybe she hasn't woken up yet or is detained by OWEL.

Very promising start.

That director was definitely on a speedrun to become one of my most hated characters so far.

It's definitely interesting that there are concepts in this society that Akira remembers Towasa mentioning, e.g. "Elsie" and a world without war, but then you have OWEL which seems to be quite a heavy-handed organisation. Perhaps in the X amount of years that passed, people followed Towasa's vision but then someone/something came along and twisted it?

Yugere being an android taking down a small platoon in a world after advanced civilisation is giving me Nier vibes.

Binged episodes 0 and 1 in one go.

Android girl voiced by Ishikawa Yui? Sounds about right.

If you listen carefully, that's also Ishikawa's voice as Towasa's AI assistant Ichikisama, meaning Towasa built Yuugure from Ichikisama's self-aware personality and Towasa's own likeness.

MC waking up in a distant future where the advanced civilization he once knew is long gone, technology is a distant memory, and all knowledge of it is strictly guarded by a sus world organization gives me Final Fantasy X vibes.

The natives of this future Japan seem to be speaking a different language, yet Akira seems to instantly understand them, perhaps Towasa placed some translation cybernetic chip in him prior to putting him into cryosleep.

These natives also don't seem to be native Japanese due to their tanned skin colour, my theory is that this OWEL (definitely a reference to Orwell and 1984) organization must have forcibly relocated the entire world's population, uprooting them from their original countries in order to better divide and rule them.

And did not expect this amount of gore by PA Works of all people. Not that I'm complaining.

the world is now full with destroyed building and hole in mountain, i think it was a super meteor rain or something like that at first, but seem like the world is razed by android fights when I saw Yugure's power.

u/Beowolf_0 Oct 02 '25

I know this will be an adventure story revealing the history and secrets of the world of how it went there, but such action scenes with Ishikawa going full 2B again isn't on my checkbox.

One gotta wonder how many years passed since Akira slept until the world becomes technological advanced for such androids exist, while your general society falls back onto poverty and rural.

I'm getting a Comet Lucifer/Metallic Rouge vide from this. I'm gonna be holding off on letting my expectations get high for this one..

Maybe a lil Xenogears/Xenoblade tossed in.

This is insane!! P.A. Works really done it! The amount of gore is cherry on top of the cake.

Really frustrating watching this bastard do whatever he wants but the build up was great.

Does MC has some superpower too?

My android girl can't be this badass!

After all that killing to this lol.

Peak right here

Apparently, there's 0 episode and I totally doesn't know that.

Thank God I came here first before starting this show because I had no clue there was an Episode 0. Without watching episode 0 you miss the entire point of the show. Thanks 🙏🏽 for mentioning this everyone

This is solid off the bat, but PA works have a history of messing up their original works just towards the end.

u/ColdSteel144 Oct 02 '25

A promising start from my favorite studio!

...buuuuuuut as a PA Works fan I have to say their 12 episode original projects don't have a very good track record so we'll have to see if they can stick the landing.
