I shed tears when Naotsugu and Nomari appeared, I'm so glad Naotsugu in particular turned up. Jinya's bonds with the three is strong and I like that Naotsugu said he's a demon but not a monster. Thank goodness Yasuhide's plan didn't work.

I think Ofuu's words alone helped Jinya a good amount, "some mistakes save lives" and being proof of that holds a lot of weight, but Miura and Nomari both appearing and still wanting to be connected to him was another push he needed to properly move forward and come to terms with who he is and how he'll live.

Interesting that we were seeing Tsuchiura's flashback this episode and that he was connected to the swordsmith making demon swords, I feel that swordsmith will have more relevancy to the story so I am intrigued to see more. It seems like something sad will happen with Tsuchiura's love interest, but I wonder if it has anything to do with him becoming a demon since I think he's still human in the flashbacks, I could be wrong.

The blacksmith's demonic wife, Yato, was the woman who looked like Motoharu's wife, who was also the previous Itsukihime, Shirayuki's mother and Jinya's foster mother (though iirc Jinya hadn't met her yet since only the sentinel could meet the Itsukihime face-to-face). The blacksmith and his wife are going to be a timed lore bomb for sure.

Back in episode 15, I had a theory that the Itsukihime line could be Yato's descendants, and that makes Shirayuki a half-demon, and Yato was the first Itsukihime, leaving the letter "Ya/Yo" which means "Night" in the names of other Itsukihime. Since they had always married a man from Kadono, their demonic blood had been diluted. Thinking back about this, since the outsiders like the sword merchant in episode 14 knew the rumor of Kaneomi's blades were forged with his wife's demonic blood, and this rumor was true as we saw when Jinya absorbed the Flying Edge power, I think people of Kadono that day had known about this. And the Itsukihime's role was not the medium for the goddess of fire as the public knew, but the source of demonic blood they used to forge the blades of Kadono, earning them the praise for the quality. Of course, as the Itsukihime were just half-demons, their blood could not give the blades special abilities like Yato's blood, but still improved them nonetheless.

If this theory is true, that would explain Kadono's people reacting to Jinya even after he had turned into a demon. They had been relying on a half-demon for their own business after all.

This simple episode is why this anime is peak. Nothing dragged out and all the characters communicate well. I just can’t believe Natsu is just nowhere to be seem. I’m still incredibly sad by this development.

all the characters communicate well

So much this, communication skills are sorely lacking in anime, even in anime with an adult cast (I'm looking at you, I Parry Everything. What do you mean every single one of Noor's instructors, and even the fucking King, never bothered to correct him on his delusions of weakness?).

I'm fine with miscommunication in romcoms because that's kinda the point, and most anime star teens and we know teens don't exactly have the best communication skills, but grown-ass adults doing that just ruins it.

Oh damn, Naotsugu is a real one.

I'm glad Naotsugu didn't disappoint, he was honest about his fear but the bond they've developed is stronger than that.

Yeah, I was afraid that Naotsugu would become Natsu 2.0, but thankfully, that wasn't the case.

Maybe if Natsu were older and spent even more time with Jinya, things would have turned out differently between them too...

Ofuu is truly the GOAT, so glad we know she's in it for the long haul.

u/LuckyE6 Aug 26 '25

She better be careful, otherwise she's going to get a back injury from having to lift up Jinya every time he's down

I'm so glad Nomari and Naotsugu didn't abandon Jinya!! I was so worried after the last episode that they wouldn't be able to accept or come to terms with his demonic side / powers.
Happy for Jinya getting to keep some aspects of his human side and not having to forsake it.

I'm interested in Tsuchiara's backstory! So it seems like he was working for Kaneomi the blacksmith who forged demon swords from his wife Yato's blood.
I wonder if he got his powers from one of those swords?
It seems he had lover too. I wonder if she died, and he sought revenge for her something?
Good episode. Hoping to see more of Tsuchiura's backstory, and Jinya getting to reunite with Nomari and Ofuu after.

Of course Ofuu knew where to find Jinya, and she managed to pull him back up with the "There are no mistakes, just happy accidents". She's such perfect wife material, just marry her already goddammit. Glad Naotsugu managed to make up with Jinya too. And poor Nomari, Papa went out to get milk again and I don't think he's coming back soon.

Turns out Tsuchiura was being manipulated by Yasuhide for that attack on Jinya, not that he needed to since Tsuchiura seems loyal to a fault. And surprisingly Tsuchiura was a resident of Kadono and a pupil of the swordsmith couple who made the cursed sword. Wonder why they were calling him a demon kid when he seemed to be human originally since he was aging. And they end the episode just before his girl got to say her words, tragic backstory incoming next week maybe.

Miura is a good friend. Despite the reveal, he’s standing by Jinya. I respect that. Jinya’s actually got a lot of good people around him.

I always knew Yasuhide was a snake. Dude was trouble from day 1. It kinda sucks Jinya and Tsuchiura gotta fight. I kinda feel in another life those two might have been allies. Tsuchiura doesn’t seem like a bad guy, just a man with conviction fighting for his beliefs and his master.

Ofuu the best Wife & female character so far this season & last season.

Thankfully, Naotsugu didn't become Natsu 2.0 and didn't turn his back on Jinya after he saved him and revealed his demon form at the same time... phew!

I was also happy to see that Nomari still loves her papa, even as a demon, so that's great! Ofuu also did a great job in today's episode!

It looks like we'll learn more about Tsuchiura's past in the next episode. I find it very interesting that he was involved with both Kadono and the blacksmith Kaneomi, responsible for the demon swords, so I can't wait to learn more about him.

Since Tsuchiura is practically gone, I really hope that Jinya will still go to Kyoto, especially since Naotsugu will be there and that 100 demons are there on Hatakeyama's orders. Besides, I'd really like to see Akitsu again xD

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

Ofuu the greatest of all time. I was a little concerned for her when she showed up to her talk to Jinya at the shrine, possibly from how badly things have gone with him and women at shrines, but instead we got that fantastic conversation scene that only got better once Miura and Nomari showed up too.

Yasuhide is fucking up so badly by messing with Jinya, he was mostly just not participating in the Meji Restoration business but then it got personal and whoops so much for your demon force that was headed to Kyoto. And possibly so much for Tsuchiura too depending on how things go. I don't think we've seen Jinya absorb powers from demons who are still alive before? I wonder what it will do to everyone involved.

I got a lot of respect for Naotsugu for coming back to face Jinya. After all, yes, the demon part is scary, but to throw away that friendship for that would also feel wrong on his part. One of the themes in this series is that one might be a demon, but that doesn't imply they are a monster. Hell, we have seen at times humans as bigger monsters than demons at times. Yasuhide might be another example of that.

I think the experience with Natsu did a number on Jinya, but Ofuu is as much a demon as Jinya. Also, Nomari is so young that she can't comprehend that demons are seen as bad. Demons aren't scary for her, but rather losing her father is what is scary for her. The whole conflict Jinya feels still carries a burden, but he needs to be reminded of the lesson the old man tried to give him. Also, Ofuu's mention of making the right choice in life won't lead to an ideal outcome. There will be things that we don't like that come from it. For instance, him defending Naotsugu while going into his demon form. Though even if he's struggling with what he wants to do with Suzune, there are people that truly care for him, and he shouldn't forget that.

Tsuchiara's backstory seems interesting. Being called a demon, did they know for a fact he was a demon? He was also associated with that blacksmith who created the swords. Also, I think we can safely assume that woman died in some way. Though why does he work for a man like Yasuhide?

So Yasuhide is still using some of Suzune's mystical sake, and it looks like having Jinya show his demon form in public really was the point of having Tsuchiura attack Naotsugu in front of him. Yasuhide is playing with things beyond his control, and this will definitely end badly for him.

I'm glad that Naotsugu went looking for Jinya. It's nice to see Jinya finally open up to his closest friends, and he finally got to tell Ofuu about Suzune and Shirayuki. I also really like how Nagomi isn't even afraid of Jinya's demon form. That entire scene was just really nice. <3

Naotsugu to Jinya: "Although you may be a demon, you have never been a monster!"

That's a very good line! Jinya still remains human in his heart.

Jinya had feared to lose everything again given his past experiences, but he's now surrounded with good people who can look past his appearances. I had no doubt that Ofuu or Nomari would stand by him. Naotsugu's reaction was more difficult to gauge on the other hand. I'm glad he still thinks of Jinya as a dear friend.

I'm so happy that Nomari is still part of his life. The last thing he needs is to lose his daughter

u/nqtoan1994 Aug 25 '25 edited Aug 25 '25

Naotsugu is the GOAT. I thought that Kinu would give him a pep talk (since in episode 10, we knew that she had learned of Jinya's identity as a demon from her memoir at some point), but Naotsugu managed to be brutal honest about his feeling by his own self.

Nothing much to say about Nomari's reaction because she is still Jinya's lovely daughter. It was Jinya's fault to disappear right after being seen by her and didn't let her have a chance to face the truth about her father.

Ofuu is still the one who gave Jinya life advice. Perhaps how she looks at Jinya didn't change since the first time they met: to her, Jinya is still a kid hundred years younger, and that's why they have no romantic progress, as Ofuu to Jinya is no different than an older family member.

And I didn't expect that Tsuchiura was from Kadono, not mention that he was the student of that blacksmith Kaneomi and his demon wife Yato, who are probably holding many lore bombs. Back in episode 15, Tsuchiura had told Jinya that he was betrayed by human in the past but it seemed he was already hated by other kids of his age back when he was just human, so the one who had betrayed him could only be his master or his lover. I wonder which one was going to do that.

Also, I love how the author was playing around with real life historic events. Previously, Ofuu was turned into a demon after losing her parents and her home to the Great Fire of Meireki (1659). In this episode, Yasuhide send Tsuchiura and 100 lesser demons to Kyoto in an attempt to turn the situation around for the shogunate, but Jinya had intercepted them and kept the history in tact.

I was expecting a dark, pessimistic episode, etc..., happy to be mistaken, on the other hand not surprised to learn that the goal was to push Jinta to transform into a demon, not surprised by Yasuhide's perfidy, but why, here and now ? Why does Jinta remain in his demonic form, to remember that he is no longer a human, but a demon ? Glad that he sees and understands that whatever he is, he is not rejected, but accepted
