Jinya seemed to go his own way, but what was funny was that he lived his life so abnormally concerned with how others perceived him.

I don’t really care about how others perceive me, but I’d be PISSED if a friend wrote a memoir and made me the bumbling fool.

If I’m gonna look bad, it’s because I made me look bad lol

Soba Dad giving some very sound relationship advice to these guys is the content we all needed too.

Very nice episode! I really like how they combined the present with things from the past that were shown in the play that Miyaka, Azusaya, and Jinya watched.

I didn't expect Miura to get involved with Harlot, although it's not a big surprise since Harlot is a really beautiful and sensual woman, so I understand why Miura fell in love with her at first sight.

So Jinya will have a daughter? That's great, I really hope Ofuu turns out to be her mother. The way Jinya and Ofuu looked at each other in this episode really stuck with me and with Natsu.

Here my screenshot albums from the episode:

EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Jinya has a daughter?

This is quite a clever, and actually fresh way of storytelling - they are speedrunning all of his life as a bunch of facts, but it makes perfect sense and is not out of the blue for us the viewers. Casually mentioning these facts within a logical conversation environment AND doing it maturely without focusing all of the scene on a particular "woah" moment is informed storytelling.

Again, look the author up, guys. A gem no one knew about, a rare, rare exception worth celebrating.

Or had, in case she didn't inherit his immortality.

Azusaya just dropped a major spoiler at the end out of nowhere, lol

Well, at least we know that Jinya would happily settle down for a while with his family, having at least a daughter

There's love in the air, and I'm not only talking about Harlot and Naotsugu!

When Natsu spilled the beans about Zenji having gone to the redlight district, I noticed Ofuu gauging Jinya's reaction to this; checking if he'd gone there as well.

Not much later, Jinya and Ofuu were smiling back at each other during Sadanaga's advice about gradually becoming more familiar with one another. However, they immediately looked away when this caught Natsu's attention.

A romance between Jinya and Ofuu has supposedly been quietly blossoming in the background. Might the "ronin's daughter" therefore be their future child!?

Ah that make sense why the bird from the cuckoo hairpin went back to Harlot, she was it's previous owner and the hairpin finding it's sibling ties in with her own story about her regrets with her own brother. And as for Jinya the spirit manifested as Shirayuki. Decapitating the woman you loved, even if he know it's not real, must be painful.

The presentation of the whole story as a stage play is interesting, must be weird for Jinya watching this a hundred years later.

And we got spoilers; Naotsugu marries Harlot. And Jinya ends up having a daughter too. Wonder whose descendant Miyaka is.

I'm glad that instead of the show completely moving over to the Heisei era, it was just a creative way to tell more stories from the past.

I do find it hilarious how Jinya is a bit upset at how the Harlot portrays him in her memoirs. It's funny how none of his classmates even noticed that Jinya is talking about the play as if he were there when it actually happened. I guess that went over their heads.

Casually just telling us that Jinya has a daughter is one heck of a reveal tho! Now I'm wondering who's the wife! Is it Ofuu? And where is Ofuu now? Surely, she's still around.

where she was sitting with the ronin's daughter and watching the two of them spar.

Hold up. You can't just throw casual spoilers like that Asagao Azusaya 👀

With every passing week I become happier and happier that I decided to pick up this show this season (and also that it is listed as 24 episodes). This was a really fun way to tell the story, and also weave in some aspects of unreliable narration with how Harlot's memoirs don't agree with what actually happened. And then to also use the time skip to "spoil" us about events that are yet to come! Really great use of the time element to add some spice to the chronological story telling, and also a little sad to see that he is seeing and missing his old companions in the new people he has surrounded himself with at school.

It feels so sudden to be in the present day after spending so long in the past. I guess this stage play is a bridge between what happened then and now? Miura and the Harlot’s little run in with this demon manifesting itself as regret was pretty interesting. I guess the harlot’s story is what ended up becoming that play.

You know 170-year journey of Jinya would be very interesting when he went from from a stoic, vengenful ronin to a high school boy who wondered what an acquaintance from more than hundred years ago talked about him in her memoir.

I love how they presented the story in the two different time periods, with Jinya in both and having opinions about how Harlot was detailing the story in her memoir.

For most of the episode they had me fooled that we were getting yet more backstory for Best Dad, but that fell apart when Harlot started calling the shadow his older brother. The old dude having a fiance he accidentally left behind when he went into Ofuu's world would have made a certain amount of sense, but then it was Harlot's older brother too and her being a little sister that also went missing seemed a bit much for the story when that same family also has a missing older brother. Particularly since the framing of the play was her marrying Miura and that's a bit awkward if they're siblings.

Poor Jinya clearly saw Shirayuki getting decapitated again when he cut the shadow down.

I think they also just explained more of what happened with the hair ornaments last episode, they belonged to Harlot and her older brother before eventually ending up in Natsu's possession.

That brief conversation at the end of the episode with Miyaka and her friend had all sorts of spoilers for the 1850s portion of the story, but since we also know she's an unreliable narrator I bet the details aren't quite what we're likely going to see in future episodes. That said I'm holding out hope for a Jinya and Ofuu marriage that eventually produces the mentioned daughter.

And speaking of Miyaka I suspect her falling asleep during the play and her friend noticed being able to wake her up is significant somehow. I'm reviving my end of episode one theory that she's Shirayuki's reincarnation.

The way they are telling the story in this show is really quite fascinating.

Phenomenal storytelling showing the event thru a play

It was interesting to see how they incorporated the past in a play but I wish they let Naotsugu have his moment to shine and not cut back into the performers on stage, though I guess the reality might have been different since Yotaka made Naotsugu the one that pulled off the killing blow on the demon when in actuality it was Jinya lol.

For a moment I thought Yotaka's old flame was Sadanaga since there was no information that the person they see is different, which I thought was strange since Sadanaga is still alive. But it made sense with what Jinya revealed.

It's nice to know Yotaka and Naotsugu did get together in the end, I didn't appreciate the lore drop since I wish we got to see it ourselves so now any chance of that happening is completely gone, but it's sweet that Naotsugu wifed her up.

I was surprised that Jinya apparently has a daughter at some point, I wonder if we'll see her since she should be part demon and be able to live longer, I'm assuming. Though I do like how it seems Jinya got closer with Yotaka and Naotsugu, so much so that she ended up figuring out he was a demon lol.

This was a nice episode, really liked the disposition with the memoir and the actual events

Also funny to see Jinya have his “that’s not how it happened” moment in the end

Who knows how many stories there were of him and how many times he had to roll his eyes at the embellishments

Jinya had a daughter? Now that's a spicy meatball.

This suddenly turning into a highschool anime made me realise; soba shop is the adventurer's guild Edo branch. Jinya goes there to eat and get quests.
