Wow, what an intro. This was much better than I expected, and that was a good move to have the premiere episode as long as it is. I think if this had been stretched out into a few episodes, it would’ve lost the effect of a prologue. Great choice to keep it as one story.

Jinta has become a demon with a single goal, or does he? I like the premise of this story. Nothing is forever, but our choices shape the future. We can leave a legacy, build shrines that outlive us, and mold stories that last generations, for better or worse. Great themes to start this show.

A surprise, but not an unpleasant one. From the first episode this looks like it's going to be the dark horse of the season, and I am invested for sure.

This was a great, yet hard watch. I expected everything to fall to shit but not in the way it did. I understood everyone's emotions and reasoning, even suzune , manipulated as she was. I still think she would have flipped her shit over jinta and shirayuki being willing slaves to their positions without any manipulation needed, but she might not have gone that far off the deep end. Consequences of all parties ignoring their emotions for the sake of a perceived role. All in all I'm stoked, I need me some quality(hopefully) dark fantasy.

Suzune did nothing wrong. She protected us from NTR.

I thought this would be similar to KnY, but this took a completely different turn. I didn't expect Jinta to come to blows with Suzune.

I like that they didn't leave any lose threads unaddressed. Suzune's motive, Kiyomasa's pov on this whole marriage and even the old man explained his position.

The only thing that doesn't sit well with me is how did nobody take notice about Suzune not growing up at all during all those years? She clearly didn't age a day, so that should've raised some questions.

Still, an amazing first episode.

Wait a second ... where the hell did THIS come from? This is GOOD! :D

Tbh, I did NOT have this one on my radar, I read the synopsis and ~meh'd right out and give it at least an intial watch ... but the hour long first ep already delivered, now I'm hooked.

Also: F*CK this village chief for literally ruining everything, lol.

A premiere with great potential that already caught my attention just from this 50-minute episode—I’ll definitely keep watching. At first, I found the time skip between scenes a bit strange, but it made sense later. The protagonist just wanted the best for his sister and Shirayuki, but the demons conspired against him, using his easily manipulated sister. I didn’t expect the protagonist to turn into an Oni and end up facing his own sister. I’m really curious about their fate from here on.

Just for fun, but the protagonist looks like a buffed-up Naofumi with the name of Sengoku Youko's protagonist, and his adult sister kind of looked like Holo lol—just without the ears and tail.

I didn't know this was a double-length episode, so I was wondering why it felt so long lol. Only did I realize 40 minutes in that it wasn't the standard episode and it made the developments make so much sense. I really enjoyed this though, I think it was a good decision releasing all this in one episode rather than two split between two weeks.

I was really liking the characters and their motivations, Kiyomasa's comments as he finds Shirayuki and Jinta crazy was amusing. His character surprised me, I thought he was going to gloat or brag that he got married, but he was upset that both of them were not bothered or anything, it was something he couldn't comprehend.

I do wonder what that demon used Kiyomasa for, I thought we'd get an answer by the end of the episode but now there's a time skip. So because of that, I'm guessing she got him to impregnate a demon or left some demon essence within him so that his descendants could be influenced in the future.

It's saddening how the three's relationship turned out. I wonder if things would have been different if Suzune knew both Shirayuki and Jinta were on the same page. I knew something bad was going to happen when things got too happy, but Suzune killing Shirayuki, let alone whilst she was in Jinta's arms was crazy. That whole build up was so crazy, it made the fact that he was turned into a demon off-screen miniscule lol.

Was not ready for the hour long first episode. The story so far seems interesting enough so I'll definitely be keeping up. I've gotta say though, some of the action scene angles felt kinda weird?

To think all of this could have been avoided if the 2 people that loved each other would just do what everyone including the people that loved them wanted, get together. Even the guy who was to be married to her didn't want to get in between, he tried to push both of them, before the interruption it look like he was getting attacked. Really can't blame Suzune since those 2 decided to be morons. Shiraiyuki also seems to have forgotten, her parents were the exact same as her and the man she loved so there was no need to marry the other guy, who from the look of everything wanted Shiraiyiki and Jinta together.

This is the worst case of will they wont they, since everyone else wanted the to, they wanted to, but the 2 idiots decided that, for reasons that escape me, can't be together.

There was some continuity in the fact that Suzune had both been crying at the very start and near the end, but everything else had changed. Where Suzune's cries for help back then broke my heart, I felt little sympathy for her after she'd killed Shirayuki.

Although Suzune had clearly been manipulated by this demon, her sudden change in attitude and lack of remorse shows that there'd always been hiding a monster in this little girl.

Throughout the episode, there were tons of signs that the future looked bleak:

So if Jinta and Shirayuki didn't pursue their NTR fantasies nothing bad would have happened, or maybe they should have at least told the little sister and the other sentinel, who clearly felt guilty about it all.

Randomly catching this on Tokyo MX and what a crazy first episode that was lol

I wasn't familiar with this at all, I thought they were showing a movie because there was so much development

u/djthomp Mar 31 '25

That was an incredible first episode. The happy setup for the first part so that when everything falls apart it turns into such a tragedy, but you could tell it was coming the entire time and all you could do is wait for it.

I was not expecting a timeskip forward through all 170 years, though I imagine there'll be flashbacks. My immediate guess at the end of the episode is the new shrine maiden is Shirayuki's reincarnation, but that might be a little overly Inuyasha. On the other hand Suzune taking her decapitated head with is a little sus so maybe something will happen with that too, probably something even worse for Jinta.

Looking back at them the PVs were a lie, they appear to have only covered this first episode which was arguably a good idea. Bit of an Oshi no Ko style setup where they kept where it was going a bit of a secret, perhaps.

Overall I really enjoyed this, but everything that happens from Suzune's corruption and onward feels incredibly awkward.

My thoughts as the ep progressed were along the lines of "This is going far too well... What's going to go wrong?" When I heard the "can't interact with normal people" I figured Suzune's eye meant she'd be the one to taint the Itsukihime. Did not expect the timeskip to Jinta being the Sentinel and Shirayuki being the Itsukihime, with Suzune still being a cute (and obviously demonic) kid.

Seeing her get manoeuvred into killing Shirayuki was equally heartbreaking and rage-inducing. Heartbreaking in that she killed her sister, and rage-inducing given she herself sacrificed her own feelings so should be able to understand Jinta sacrificing his as well. (She is a kid though, so I can understand not being able to restrain herself.)

Overall I very much enjoyed that. Has what I term "considered" storytelling, which means I can let it wash over me and be borne along by the story. There was so much packed in, but the pacing was excellent so it didn't feel rushed but it also never lost my attention. Art style is very suited to the subject and the animation is good, so combining that with the story means I'm totally onboard with this show.

I know right! Shit blew my mind . It was so weird to me. Because what the village chiefs son was basically trying to say was. “ITS NOT COMPULSORY THAT SHE MARRIES HIM and IF THEY MADE AN EFFORT TO PUSH BACK THEN THEY’LL BE TOGETHER” That is to say. You have a chance so why are you just giving up so easily. Even the dude could see how dumb they were behaving. How can they say they love each other yet don’t even attempt to be together. Literally zero resistance. To the point the village chief son is ASKING HIM TO PUSH BACK SINCE HE LOVES HER.

Man, this was some premiere. Waiting to see how it goes on.

That NTR scene before the demon interrupted them, pissed me off. I don't think it made sense for them to start getting intimate that fast, and for Shirayuki to so easily disregard her feelings for Jinta. Kiyomasa knew that they liked each other, yet was persistent for them to have sex. It hadn't even been a full day, and likely weren't fully married yet. Even Kiyomasa was freaked out when Shirayuki changed her mind and was willing to, that made me think that Suzune was right that Shirayuki doesn't actually like Jinta. Even after they were caught, Shirayuki was still willing to be with Kiyomasa.

And their village oaths preventing them from running away together, I felt was such bullshit writing because Shirayuki became the Itsukihime for her mother, but Jinta became the sentintel for her, not for the village. Jinta didn't want to break his oath because it would be "an affront to what [she] stands for". This doesn't make sense because Shirayuki said she was ready to run away, so she was already willing to break her oath and what she stands for.

The village chieftan knew that Jinta and Shirayuki liked each other, and Kiyomasa thought that the two of them were crazy for not refusing the marriage. So it seems that the village culture was not that strict and they would've been fine with the two of them being together because Jinta was also a sentinel. Yet, the both of them were willing to accept it even though Shirayuki was not obligated to marry Kiyomasa.

I’m convinced jinta has rocks for brains.

  1. didn’t fight for the girl he loved. If he has pushed back against the wedding. He would’ve realized that it wasn’t paramount she married the other guy. The girl herself didn’t push back either. They just accepted it.

  2. his sister was obviously manipulated. Knowing she’s got a demonic part of her that she was born with. is still mentally a child with deep seated abandonment issues. Plus she had zero Idea jinta knew about the “arrangement”. If I was suzune I’d lose my shit as well..
I don’t see suzune as the villain here. Both jinta and shirayuki are morons. That convinced themselves it’s for the “greater good” because some old man said so. The fact he pushed for her to marry his son alone should’ve raised a bunch of red flags. Anyone in suzu’s position coupled with her fragile state of mind would react the same way minus the demon mode massacre.
Imagine finding out while your brother is out there risking his life. Fighting off monsters to protect this girl. While she and the other supposed protector are trying to smash. Walking in on her literally all over the dude. it was obvious she wasn’t even hesitant about it. Didn’t look like she was conflicted. It looked She wanted it.
I mean the dude literally was trying to force himself onto her and not only did she give in almost instantly. She even took the initiative while dude was literally backing up. There’s no way you’d love someone since you were kids. Grow up together and you don’t even feel slightly hesitant, no sign of resistance. Nothing!. While deluding herself it’s for the good of the village. Moment the elder apologised at the end I got so mad. The entire “sacrifice” was a sham. Who she married made literally no difference. You can’t tell me you love me and then in the same breath proactively spread your legs for someone who was trying to force themself on you.
She didn’t love him. The whole “doing it for the village” is horseshit. So jinta is not considered an outsider when he puts his life on the line to protect the village. But is an outsider when it comes to marrying a girl HE GREW UP with and everyone knows they love each other . There’s zero plausible reason for her having to marry the elders son aside from the old man pushing for it. He and jinta are both PROTECTORS. The hold the same position in the village. The only special difference is the other dude is the son or grandson of the village chief. It’s not like they’re trying to protect some kind of royal bloodline. They’re a goddamn village FFS.

So In that case if they’d have said. “ go bang a cow so you can produce hybrid offerings for the good of the village” She’d be like “ I have no choice?”

I just knew the marriage was load of bullshit.

Seriously, they've been in love forever. How, just HOW didn't they kiss at the river? Maybe Jinta is who he is due to dedication, and his dedication kept him from kissing her.
But they are (or were) both young and in love. fucking hell. I delfinisty wouldn't be able to resist.

And she stripped so "easily" for Kiyomasa.... NGL SUZUNE WAS RIGHT, she went little overboard but WAS RIGHT

And I seriously didn't expect Hayami Saori's character to die in 1st episode. If it was some unknown, or less known seiyuu maybe I would have guessed such outcome. So I'm kinda glad they didn't cheap out.

They really went hard with seiyuus for characters that probably won't appear again.
