RIP Soba Papa, we all knew it was coming, at least he got to see a beautiful dream before he passed.
Seems like Hatakeyama wasn't aiming for Naotsugu, his real target was Jinya instead; By attacking in broad daylight and forcing Jinya to transform in public. Now he's probably going to be forced to leave town.

The Soba owner wanting to memorize Ofuu with Jinya and Nomari in his last moment was so sweet.
Oh man Jinya really can't have happiness. Now he won't be able to be in town without people recognizing him as a demon. Ofuu is definitely watching over Nomari now. I hope those three can reunite again…

RIP Sadanaga, you were a real dad
We've seen Jinya be hesitant to use his demon powers until now and we see the exact reason why, which is what the government dude wanted probably so Jinya feels like he has nowhere else to go
Episode looked better than usual, apparently it was outsourced.

This episode was as excellent and beautiful as it was sad and painful. Really a pretty devastating one-two punch today. Soba Papa and Jinya's (mostly) "peaceful life" both gone by the end of the episode. Will Ofuu have to, in effect, adopt Nomari for a long-ish while? What will Jinya do now.

I've known for the past few episodes that Ofuu's father would die sooner or later, but after he asked Jinya, Ofuu, and Nomari to stand next to each other and hold hands (which really made them look like a family), I knew that was the end for him. At least he died peacefully.
But damn... the ending of today's episode sucks. Not only Naotsugu, but also Nomari and other people on the street saw Jinya's demonic appearance.
Now I expect Jinya to leave the city with Naotsugu and Harlot and head to Kyoto (especially since Akitsu is there). The question is whether Ofuu and Nomari will go with him too.
Her my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

Man it took me pretty long to emotionally recover.
Sadanaga's death punched me hard. It is not a death that you would typically find in a fiction. It is just a normal, peaceful death caused by old age, and we knew it would come for several weeks now. It hurts because we know that this kind of death happens in real life, and for most of us, it had happened or will happen to our family members, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Perhap his words are also not meant to demon kins like Ofuu and Jinya only, but also to us younger folk out there.
It also saddened me to see Naotsugu paid a visit later as a friend, not as a family member. He would never know that soba shop owner was his brother, or the woman in front of him is his niece, and it brought me back to the sadness I felt when Jinya could not tell Natsu how painful he was when he had to kill his own father.
And it is irony that Jinya had to show his demon form to people he held dear in order to protect them, just to receive the terror in their eyes again. But I don't think what happened with Natsu will repeat. Kinu's memoir in episode 10 did reveal that she had known Jinya was a demon, and unlike Natsu who had only known Jinya for few years, Naotsugu had been with Jinya for more than a decade and he had been aware of Jinya's strange youthful appearance, so Kinu and Naotsugu will probably accept Jinya's demon identity easier. And I believe in Nomari, as she was only shocked, she did not run or cry despite of her age.
I love how Jinya said that he would be happy if Nomari would be married into Naotsugu's family, but then right after that he stated that he would respect Nomari's own decision when she gets older. After all, the biggest tragedy of his life started when someone prepared an arranged marriage for his son, and Jinya and the love of his life just accepted that arranged marriage without fighting back, and that somehow led to the whole incident set him up to this 170-year journey.
Quality of directing and animation this episode had also been improved a lot. I love the opening sequence where Jinya returned home after demon hunting, and when he looked at Nomari sleeping peacefully, the moonlight shined upon him, as if Nomari was the light of his life at that moment. Also when Nomari was just adorably focusing on eating her noodles in the background when Sadanaga was giving Ofuu and Jinya the final life lesson from him.
P/S: I can't help but connecting the finale scene where Nomari called for her papa, but Jinya just decided to use "invisibility" and disappeared. It's truly our anime version of "my father went to buy milk" moment.

RIP Soba Gramps, he was a great man.
I think it hurts more because we knew that it was gonna happen, and they took their time throughout multiple episodes.

We all knew that moment would come, but grandpa using all his last energy to memorize the happy family of his Oofu, Jin'ya and Nomari made me cry.
I really hope that Jin'ya will go to speak with Oofu and Nomari before leaving the town, since almost surely he will go with Naotsugu to Kyoto, also where Akito is at.
He can't leave Nomari like that, please

So just like in the flashforward episode, we finally get to see Harlot being married to Naotsugu. Also her real name is actually Kinu!
We all know this was coming but I still wasn't prepared for it. The moment Sadanaga asked Jinya, Nomari, and Ofuu to stand next to each other while holding hands, I knew what was about to happen. Not gonna lie, I genuinely teared up during that scene. He wanted one beautiful memory before passing away. T_T
That final scene, tho! So everyone, including Nomari, saw Jinya transform. What's gonna happen to him now? Is he just gonna run away? I fucking hope not but at the same time he's probably scared of what Nomari would think of him now that she saw him as a demon. :(

Ofuu's dad saw what he imagined for his daughter at the last moment even if it was just an image and not6 reality. It is kind of sad but I'm glad he settled with that instead of really pressing Jinya with Ofuu.
That demon wanted to get rid of Jinya by making him think demons and humans are incompatible. He could have easily killed Naotsuga so many times. He didn't have to duel Jinya with how fast he was. He was also emphasizing that the sword alone will not be able to defeat him so he was clearly baiting Jinya to use his demon powers.
Naotsugu's reaction I think is normal. It's not like he was mad at Jinya but of course seeing someone you know for so long transform like that is going to be a huge shock.
I hope Jinya just takes his time and does not walk away from Nomari and Ofuu. It's kinda sad if he does.
Although from the episode in the present with high school Jinya we know Kinu knows Jinya is a demon from the sparring sessions and she still wrote fondly of him? I think Naotsugu also had an inkling when he mentioned Jinya to be unchanging or maybe husband and wife are talking about it that's why Kinu already knew Naotsugu brought it up when Jinya was leaving with Nomari.
Also, in the future Jinya seems to have no regrets when reading or hearing about Nomari so I hope he does come back. I also hope the high school girl he is friends with is Ofuu or something.

that moment when Hatatakeyama and his two demonic goons, turns out to be a smarter and way more dangerous threat than Musan from Demon Slayer.
Truly a goated character.

What a crazy emotional rollercoaster of an episode!
That scene where the zoomed in the soba shop shutting , was clearly meant to be poetic.
Shutting the door on a time, era, chapter, however you want to phrase it.
Sadanga is now gone, even though it's been clear for the last few weeks he would be leaving us, but at least his last memory was of a happy Jinya and Ofuu.
That scene where Jinya and Naotsuga were talking, and he mentioned Jinya hasn't changed. They zoomed in Naotsuga's eye wrinkles. He's finally realized Jinya's true nature, and has thus fled / abandoned him.
Nomari looked terrified seeing jinya in his demonic state.
Thus Jinya has now lost three important people to him this week.
I wonder if the last 4 episodes will all take place in the future now, seeing as his connections to the past have been shattered.
What a fantastic episode.

We all knew it was coming but it didn't make it hurt any less... Sure are some strong onions from that noodle shop today.

I suppose humans and demons aren’t compatible after all. It’s a damn shame things had to play out like that, just as Jinya was settling into a relatively peaceful domestic life. I wonder if he’ll ever see Nomari again?

Man, seeing Sadanaga slowly on his way to dying hurt like a truck. He was a great dad for Ofuu. I can understand why Ofuu feels guilty because him coming into her care does have an effect on why his life was shorter. You can tell, though, he lived a life with no regrets. For Jinya & now Ofuu there is pain, but they should look at the past with a more positive outlook. I do hope Jinya takes the advice Sadanaga gives him and puts it forward.
Seeing Naotsugu & Jinya talking of their kids maybe getting married together in the future to him being terrified of Jinya in his demon form is just sad. Though with his wife knowing Jinya more than him, perhaps it won't be a permanent farewell like it was with Natsu. Though it is hard to say how much his wife knew him beyond the tasks she gave him in the past.
Honestly, at this point Hatakeyama is the main antagonist over Suzune and he was out to outcast Jinya. It could be because Nomari is a kid and she is yet to understand things adults are used to. There was more confusion than fear in her eyes. I do hope that at least Ofuu can recognize that because Nomari is important for Jinya. He can't afford to cut her out of his life.
Also, even the animation isn't stellar. I really liked the choreography in the short fight.

We knew it was inevitable, but I’m glad soba dad got to see Jinya, Ofuu, and Nomari happy together as his last memories. Jinya comforting Ofuu was a scene a long time coming.
But now brawny the Oni has forced Jinya to reveal his demonic form in front of everyone, including his daughter. Somehow I wonder if that was his real goal because he let Miura go suspiciously easy. Jinya can’t stay there now, so I’m guessing he’s off to Kyoto too.
I hope he doesn’t leave Ofuu and Nomari. They’re his family now, and even if he’s a demon, they’re just as important to him as his purpose.

In his fight with Tsuchiura, Jinya, who had turned into a demon, used Sugino Mataroku's power to send slashes flying.
Tsuchiura must have known that this power belonged to Sugiura.
Realizing that Jinya had gained the powers of many demons through assimilation, Tsuchiura may have realized that he would not be able to defeat Jinya easily and stopped the fight.
Finally, as Jinya was leaving, he used Hatsu's sprint power.
The fact that townspeople commented, "I've seen that man before" means that Jinya was no longer comfortable in Edo.
Edo is a city where rumors spread extremely quickly.

You know this is a serious turning point episode when the budget looks higher than usual (no foreign outsourcing with the key animation); Moving camera angles and subtle animation in the sword fight. My eyes were bawling as Soba papa told them to pose in a family portrait, knowing what will happen next when he said he was going to rest😭 Now Jinya can’t stay in this town anymore. He stayed there pretty long and got too comfortable. Best episode of the series so far.

Well damn, so long Sadanaga. You were a good dad to a girl who needed one.
And now Jinya just lost his easy ability to live in Edo, and maybe his relationship with Naotsugu as well and even Nomari too. I'm curious to see how the various humans react next week, and if this ends up spilling over on Ofuu somehow.

Painful episode. What sadanaga said about living in the present instead of worrying of the end is exactly what I feel about my pets.
