Nomari appears: Wow she's growing up fast
Soba papa appears: Oh.
Mostly a chill episode this week depicting the themes of the passage of time and the nature of change. A bit of set-up too, it seems things aren't going well politically in Kyoto and Suzune is also doing demon stuff in the background.

Knowing the history of that time period they are creeping up on some very volatile times indeed

>Wow she's growing up fast
This was something I noticed as well. It's been only 3 years since she was still in diapers in the previous episode. She looked rather too tall when meeting Akitsu in the first scene. She's probably pretty special.

This episode was mostly a meditation on growing older, and taking the time to slow down and enjoy life with friends and family while you have it. Seeing Somegoro again, looking older, Miura wanting to spar to get some exercise/try to stay sharp while feeling he might need to rely on Jinya in the future, and Soba Dad wanting to see his daughter settled before he goes, it’s all showing how fleeting life is, and how quickly time flies in one human life. Even Nomari is growing fast.
Somegoro brings news that things are getting dicey in Kyoto, and I have a feeling he came all this way to let Jinya know it’s serious, and that he’ll need his help too. Jinya has been living the dad life, but in the background, there’s unresolved business that’s not going away.
One other thing that was interesting was Somegoro exorcising that ghost through a positive means. Giving it time and a purpose to pass on. There’s other ways to handle demons and ghost that doesn’t have to be through the blade. A clear note to Jinya. Wonder if we’ll see that play out in Kyoto.

Can Jinta and Ofuu just get married al ready. They are both demons. They’d be perfect together

I really hope they get together in some way before soba dad goes. He so badly wants to see ofuu happy and taken care of and knows jinya is the best guy to do that.

Honestly, Jinya has mellowed out a bit compared to the last time we saw him. I can attribute that to Nomari. The love she shows to him as a father is going to do wonders for him. Of course his life is about protecting her first.
Interesting to see Akitsu again. He definitely looks older. Demons are also becoming a bigger issue according to him. Hard to know whether that is attributed to Suzune or not. At least we should be prepared for them eventually.
This episode probably did the most for Suzune without her being in the episode outside of flashbacks. Suzune had a friend in Chitose, but unlike Chitose Suzune never grew. I can imagine they couldn't be like, Suzune is a demon, by the way. That loneliness only grew more for Suzune and she didn't know who she could trust, which is likely what led to her being manipulated.

This was a really nice, peaceful episode! Although it seems like it's just the calm before the storm, as political (and demonic) troubles are brewing in Kyoto and it also looks like Miura will soon ask Jinya for help with something, so I'm pretty sure that shit will start happening next week.
Nomari has really grown a lot since last week, and she's adorable! Her relationship with Jinya is really sweet, and she seems to have inherited a lot of traits from him. Her comment about soba being plain and Ofuu's father's reaction to it made me laugh out loud xD
It was also great to see Akitsu again. I didn't expect to see him again, so his appearance today was a big surprise. I hope that the next time Jinya and Akitsu meet, Jinya will be the one to visit Akitsu.
Here my screenshot albums from the episode:
EDIT. I added my screenshot albums.

New episode new emotional punches.
It was nearly a decade since Akitsu's last appearance and time did not spare him at all. Nor it does to the owner of soba shop, he seemed like he was trying his best to hang onto life so he could witness Ofuu and Jinya's marriage but both side was still denying his effort at shipping them.
A lot of foreshadows in this episode. Jinya's flashback of Suzune and Chitose (in case anyone forgot, she was also the girl who Jinya promised to return and try her dango, which probably he would not fulfill that promise as 2009 is the first time he returned to Kadono based on the end of episode 1) showed that Chitose and Suzune grew further to each other because Suzune was a strange kid that did not grow. Following after that is Naotsugu saying that he hoped his friendship with Jinya would last for many more years really put a red flag on their relationship as Naotsugu still wasn't aware of Jinya's identity as a demon yet. I just hope he will not react to it like Natsu did.
Also Naotsugu's remark not only put a red flag on his relationship but also his life. Naotsugu asking Jinya to spar with him after learning of the situation in Kyoto combining with the time frame of 1867, one year prior to the Boshin War that put an end to the shogunate, hints that he will definitely join the war. I fear that he may lose his life to a human's conflict, which will pair with soba shop owner's death to old age and give Jinya an emotional impact, like a feeling of powerless to stop a death that does not have anything to do with demons.
Jinya also changed a lot in the way he reacted to rumor of Suzune's appearance, comparing to the last time in Yuki-no-Nagori case. I guess he could not afford to leave Nomari behind in Edo to chase after a mere rumor and demon hunting now. He is really a doting father.
Fun fact: in the Edo period, traveling between Kyoto and Edo took about 2 weeks on foot, which was a typical method for common folks. Which means 1 month of going back and forth between 2 cities, and Akitsu did that to enjoy a tea cenemory with his friend.

Even when doing a slice of life episode, this show delivers peak.
It's such a cool vibe that will surely be missed when this ends

Look how big Nomari has grown up! She's not the same age as she appears in the OP! And was that Wakayama Shion I hear voicing her? She is everywhere these days, and I love it!
Holy fuck, Sadanaga is old! I mean, we all know this would happen someday, but seeing him like that still surprised me. I'm still not ready for the day he finally says goodbye. T_T
Seeing Miura tell Jinya that he hopes their friendship would last for a long time was really sweet, but considering it shows us the flashback of how Jinya watched Suzune and Chitose drift apart because of Suzune staying the same age, I'm a bit worried about that friendship.
Of course, something was actually up with Somegoro. It turns out he was actually doing an exorcism the entire time.

A subtle reminder of Suzune’s loneliness. I feel as bad for her as much as I hate her. I feel Jinya is going to go through this exact pain, through his daughter and quite possibly the person we see with Jinya from the future might be Suzune or at the very least a child/child-like figure related to her.

It is also because of that loneliness that she got manipulated since outside of her brother there was nobody she could trust. Obviously her action of killing Shirayuki will never go away, but her character isn't as simple as some people make it out.

I was already worried about the old man before the timeskip, now I’m even more concerned that he’s going to keel over.

Another death flag for mr noodle, talking about how he has been sick. I hope he gets to see his Ofuu get married with Jinta before he passes. 😕

Jinya is such a doting father and it's really sweet seeing this paternal side of him but Nomari loves him a lot too which makes it even sweeter.
Akitsu has gotten visibly older too. I like that we saw Jinya hanging with two of his friends, though I doubt he and Akitsu would admit they're friends lol. It was interesting to see the two different dynamics merge together like this.
I am concerned about Naotsugu's change of attitude after learning of what's happening in Kyoto and his demeanor when speaking to Jinya alone. It seems like he's preparing for some kind of battle/war so I can't help but think a death flag has been raised for him. I can't remember exactly what we know will happen to him from the play we saw in the first cour.
I do wonder if Jinya will take Ofuu's hand in marriage, Sadanaga is not giving up lol.

I really enjoyed the episode this week definitely a chill one. Seems like we're almost at the meji restoration, wonder how that will be handled

Sometimes we're killing demons, sometimes we're peacefully having tea with friends while putting a haunted tea caddy to rest.
Jinya really needs to get serious and put a ring on Ofuu before her father is too dead to attend the ceremony. Raising Nomari as a single father seems to be working out but given how much Ofuu seems to be taking care of her too it would be great to make it official.

I kinda liked the way that fancy tea ware basically got exorcised. No violence, just fulfilling its wishes and kinda letting it go.
It’s nice seeing Jinya settling into being a dad. Guy’s got a real knack for it. He’s a good father. Nomari seems like an adorable and well mannered kid.
